Dear Delegate,
We are delighted to welcome you to the second Sustainable Design & Construction Conference
hosted at The Big 5 taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Last year’s conference received a
phenomenal response and we are pleased to once again be offering this high profile forum with a focus
on quality, value and maximising your time out of the office. Topics have once again been gathered
following extensive market research to ensure that you are getting the most cutting-edge information

The Big 5
As we all know, a lot has changed since last year, notably with the announcement of Dubai’s successful bid to host
the World Expo 2020. Expo 2020 is accelerating new projects and stimulating a drive for new construction and
development, which paired with the general sentiment of market recovery in the UAE and wider region means that
Dubai and the UAE are once again poised to take the world by storm. Iconic architecture and rapid construction have
led to truly transformational growth in this amazing world city and an abundance of opportunities for our sector.
We hope that you enjoy the presentations, case studies and panel discussions on offer during the conference and
we invite you to also make use of the breaks to visit The Big 5 exhibition. We are also offering over 40 free to attend,
CPD certified workshops throughout the week so be sure to review the full Big 5 educational programme agenda to
determine how you can truly make the most of this industry platform for all of your sourcing, business intelligence,
networking, learning and professional development needs.

LEARNING FROM BEST PRACTICE
ABU DHABI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
MIDFIELD TERMINAL COMPLEX
Conceived as a gateway to Abu Dhabi, the airport is designed as
an urban space, complete with plazas and internal buildings,
united under one expansive roof. The high percentage of transfer
passengers means that, for the majority, the terminal building
will be their sole experience of Abu Dhabi. The terminal therefore
needed to reflect and embody aspects of the city to ensure that
Abu Dhabi is truly and effectively represented. This includes
dwellings, leisure and cultural activities.
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SHOWCASE
TRANSCORP HILTON HOTEL
Located in the Ikoyi neighbourhood of Lagos, Nigeria, the new
309-key, 30,000 sqm Transcorp Hilton Hotel features locallyinspired design with a focus on sustainability. The building will
be designed to maximise energy efficiency and will incorporate
a green roof system with a storm water collection system,
solar water heaters and photovoltaic technologies.
MASDAR HEADQUARTERS
The Masdar Headquarters complex is set to become one of
the most sustainable, energy-efficient offices in the United
Arab Emirates; incorporating over 1,000 sqm of rooftop PV
solar panels and using 50% less energy compared to a typical
Abu Dhabi building, the complex is targeting a four-Pearl
rating, one of the highest energy efficiency and sustainability
certifications available in the world.
