siden. Byen og dens innbyggere tok

Welcome to the Arctic city of Tromsø
Tromsø is the city of adventures and
adventurers. Ever since the mid 19th
century, Tromsø has been the starting
point for Arctic hunting and polar expeditions. You are now visiting the land of
the Midnight Sun and the Polar Night.
We hope your visit to Tromsø will be the
start of your own Arctic adventure.
Tromsø is now swinging more than ever
– 24/7! This small city, located at nearly
70 °N, offers cultural experiences of all
types, countless festivals year-round,
warm and welcoming inhabitants,
cafés teeming with life and countless
restaurants.
We are proud to be able to offer you a
vibrant and dynamic city so close to the
North Pole. A lot of things in Tromsø are
the northernmost of their kind. We have
the world’s northernmost university,
brewery, glassblower and cathedral. The
city is surrounded by majestic nature,
and our spectacular mountains provide
opportunities for unlimited and varied
hiking and skiing adventures. The sea
invites kayaking and canoeing trips,
fishing trips in the Midnight Sun and exploring the distinctive island landscape
in various vessels. Playing golf in the
Midnight Sun on Tromsø’s 18-hole golf
course gives a new meaning to the term
“hole-in-one”!
In wintertime, the city can tempt you
with dog sledding adventures, snowmobile safaris, rides in reindeer-driven
sleighs and ice fishing. You can also gain
an insight into the unrivalled culture of
our indigenous Sami population. You will
find cross-country ski trails not far from
the city centre and fantastic opportunities for skiing in the surrounding mountains. Tromsø is located in the middle of
auroral zone, making it quite simply one
of the places on earth where you have
the highest probability of experiencing
the magical Northern Lights!
However, the highlight of Tromsø is its
inhabitants. The locals of Tromsø won’t
judge you on the colour of your skin,
your sexual orientation, your religious
beliefs or other trivialities. The inhabitants of Tromsø are warm, open and curious people, who can relate to what you
do and say. We are also loud, humorous
and have a relaxed attitude to sleep and
bedtime. We love Tromsø and are just
looking for an opportunity to tell you
why. Don’t sit in a corner on your own.
You won’t get peace anyway!
I came to Tromsø 20 years ago. The
city and its inhabitants welcomed me
with open arms. Now I have quite simply
fallen in love with the city. Welcome to

Tromsø, som bare ligger gode 2000 kilometer fra Nordpolen, er sentrum for
forskning, utdanning og handel i det høye nord. Tromsø har også et utfordrende

I Tromsø møter trehus fra 1800-tallet det 21. århundrets modernitet, omgitt av

Tromsø, located about 2000km from the North Pole, is the centre of research,
education and trade in the High North. Tromsø also has a challenging cultural
scene, a fusion cuisine of local fish and game and international spices, and a
humorous nightlife.
In Tromsø, 19th century wooden houses meet the modernity
of the 21st century, surrounded by mountains and fjords.
