GENERAL SECTION: BACHELOR’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
1.1
Eligibility to apply to Bachelor’s degree programmes
Provisions on eligibility to apply to universities of applied sciences (UAS) have been laid
down in the Polytechnics Act (932/2014) 1.
You can apply to a Bachelor’s degree programme if you have completed:

the Finnish general upper secondary school syllabus and/or the matriculation
examination;
an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma;
a European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma;
a German Reifeprüfung (RP) Diploma;
a Finnish upper secondary vocational qualification with a scope of 120 credit units or
an equivalent previous vocational qualification with a minimum scope of 80 credit
units;
a Finnish post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma;
a Finnish upper secondary, further or specialist vocational qualification as a
competence-based qualification, or an equivalent previous qualification; or
foreign education that provides eligibility to apply for higher education in the country
in question.
For some programmes, universities of applied sciences may also require a specific
qualification or other evidence (such as a language certificate, which is covered in more
detail in Section 1.5.2).
Some universities of applied sciences may, at their own discretion, consider an applicant to
be eligible to apply to a specific programme, when the UAS in question deems that he or she
possesses sufficient knowledge and skills for UAS studies on that programme. Further
information is available in Section 1.4.
1.2
How to prove your eligibility to apply
The qualification used in the application procedure must be completed such that the
copy of the certificate will arrive at the relevant university of applied sciences following
publication of admission results by the deadline specified in advance (see the Schedule
Appendix).

The English equivalent used in official texts for a professionally oriented higher education institution
is polytechnic, but these institutions generally refer to themselves as universities of applied
sciences. For the purposes of this document, professionally oriented higher education institutions
are hereinafter referred to as universities of applied sciences (abbr. UAS), except for the titles of
specific statutes, such as the Polytechnics Act.

However, the qualification must be completed by the end of the application period, if the
applicant is not an EU/EEA citizen and is applying with a non-Finnish qualification (excluding
EB, IB and RP Diplomas).
Those applying with a Finnish qualification certificate do not need to submit copies of
their certificates, as these will only be verified for those admitted as students. However, this
does not apply to those who have taken the Finnish matriculation examination prior to 1990,
who will need to submit copies of their certificates to the admissions offices of the relevant
universities of applied sciences by the deadline specified in advance (see the Schedule
Appendix).
In order to prove their eligibility to apply, those applying with a non-Finnish qualification
certificate must submit a copy of the final certificate used as the basis for application by the
deadline specified in advance (see the Schedule Appendix) to the admissions office of the
university of applied sciences ranked highest on their application forms (hereinafter referred
to as ‘the first-choice university of applied sciences’), which will then decide on each
applicant’s eligibility to apply to all chosen UAS programmes. However, this does not apply
to EU/EEA citizens graduating during the application period, or to those applying with an IB,
EB or RP Diploma, who will need to submit certificate copies by another deadline specified
in advance (see the Schedule Appendix). Only final qualification certificates can be
accepted; no provisional or temporary certificates will be accepted.
In addition, each applicant must submit a copy of his or her qualification certificate translated
into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official (authorised) translator, if the original document
is in none of these languages. Such translations must be signed and stamped by the
translator. The translations must be submitted by the deadline specified in advance (see the
Schedule Appendix) to the admissions offices of the relevant universities of applied
sciences.
If an applicant is a refugee or in a refugee-like situation and is unable to submit
documentary evidence of his or her qualification, a university of applied sciences may invite
the applicant to sit an entrance examination. The applicant must have an official decision
attesting to his or her refugee status (a decision on asylum or a residence permit granted on
the basis of a need for protection). The applicant must submit a copy of such decision to the
admissions office of each university of applied sciences to which he or she is applying by the
deadline specified in advance (see the Schedule Appendix).
Those applying to degree programmes provided in English must also submit a certificate of
their English language proficiency to the admissions offices of the relevant universities of
applied sciences. This does not apply to EU/EEA citizens or to those applying with a Finnish
qualification certificate, unless they apply for exemption from a language test organised as
part of an entrance examination. Further information is available in Section 1.5.2.
1.3
Admissions criteria
Each university of applied sciences determines which of the following selection methods are
to be used for each programme choice and allocates the number of places to each selection
method. Depending on their educational backgrounds, applicants are included in the
selection methods used in their chosen field, but each applicant can only be selected on the
basis of one selection method.
Scoring tables relating to points awarded for school performance are included in the fieldspecific recommendations for admissions criteria.

Admission is conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked school and
employment certificates. The university of applied sciences may cancel admission if an
applicant fails to submit certificates by the specified deadline, or if an applicant has provided
false information.
Conversion formula for EB, IB and Reifeprüfung Diplomas

1.4
Applying through discretionary admission
Each university of applied sciences decides on discretionary admissions by programme.
Anyone applying through discretionary admission is required to submit copies of the
certificates that he or she wishes to invoke to the admissions office of each university of
applied sciences to which he or she is applying by the deadline specified in advance (see
the Schedule Appendix). Discretion only concerns an applicant’s eligibility to apply.
1.5
Evidence of language proficiency as part of admissions
1.5.1
Finnish or Swedish language test
A university of applied sciences may organise a Finnish or Swedish language test for
applicants whose mother tongue and/or schooling language is different from its language of
instruction. A person is considered to have received his or her schooling in the language in
which he or she has received an approved grade in Finnish or Swedish studied as a mother
tongue on the final certificate awarded for studies according to the Basic Education Act
(628/1998) or the General Upper Secondary Schools Act (629/1998) or equivalent studies. A
schooling language may also refer to the language in which a person has passed the mother
tongue test in the matriculation examination, or in which the person has received at least
grade magna cum laude approbatur for the Finnish or Swedish as a second language test.
Instead of a language test, it is also possible to accept skills demonstrated in speaking,
listening comprehension, writing and reading comprehension at least at skills level 4 of the
National Certificate of Language Proficiency test as evidence of Finnish or Swedish
language proficiency. Completion of the oral and written skills tests included in the Civil
Service Language Proficiency Certificate examination at least at skills level ‘good’ may also
be accepted as equivalent proof of Finnish or Swedish language proficiency.
1.5.2
Evidence of English language proficiency and exemption from a language
test
When applying to programmes provided in English, any non-EU/EEA citizen applying with a
qualification completed outside Finland is required to submit a certificate of his or her
language proficiency to the admissions office of the first-choice university of applied
sciences by the deadline specified in advance (see the Schedule Appendix).
Language proficiency may be demonstrated with the following minimum certificate
requirements:

Cambridge ESOL’s Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), CEFR level C1; or
Pearson test of English, Academic 51; or
IELTS, academic level 6.0; or
TOEFL 550 paper-based test/TOEFL 79 Internet-based test; or
skills level 4 in a National Certificate of Language Proficiency test in all areas of the
English language, including reading comprehension, listening comprehension,

speaking and writing (see www.oph.fi/english > Services > National certificate of
language proficiency (YKI)); or
Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma (AICE) taken in Finland;
Finnish matriculation examination: grade C in the advanced syllabus test in the
English language;
IB Diploma: grade 4 in the advanced syllabus test in the English language;
EB Diploma: grade 6.00–6.95 in the advanced syllabus test in the English language;
RP Diploma: grade 7 in the advanced syllabus test in the English language; or
an upper secondary level certificate or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in
English in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia or New
Zealand as well as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completed in English in an
EU/EEA country.
The language certificate must be valid during the application period. The Pearson test of
English, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are valid for two years. There are no limitations on
the period of validity of the other certificates. A TOEFL test score will only be accepted if it
has been directly submitted from the TOEFL Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Applicants’ language proficiency will be assessed in the language test included in the
entrance examination on a scale of pass/fail. An applicant failing the language test will be
excluded from admission. Some programmes may require all applicants to take the
compulsory language section of the entrance examination without exception.
Applicants who have completed the Finnish matriculation examination prior to 1990 must
submit a certificate of language proficiency.
1.6
Accessibility in student admissions
An applicant may submit a separate application to request the right to special arrangements
for taking an entrance examination. The application should indicate the types of special
arrangements being requested and the grounds for the request. The applicant should
enclose with the application copies of the certificates that he or she invokes. Depending on
the university of applied sciences, applications may either be made informally or using a
specific form.
In cases where an issue entitling an applicant to special arrangements already exists during
the application period, an application for special arrangements for entrance examinations
must be submitted by the deadline specified in advance (see the Schedule Appendix) to the
admissions office of each university of applied sciences to which the applicant is applying.
If an issue entitling an applicant to special arrangements emerges or is identified between
the end of the application period and the entrance examination date, the applicant must
submit an application for special arrangements to the admissions office of each university of
applied sciences arranging the entrance examinations that he or she intends to take without
delay. Decisions on special arrangements for entrance examinations are specific to each
programme choice and a decision is only valid on a specific examination date. If a person
later signs up for an entrance examination for the same or some other programme, he or she
will have to reapply for special arrangements for the relevant entrance examination.

1.7
Selection between applicants with equal admission scores
In cases of equal admission scores, UAS applicants will be ranked on the following grounds:

depending on the selection methods used for the programme in question. If these criteria fail

to admit all or none of the equally ranked applicants, or the applicants may be automatically
ranked by lots drawn by a computer system.

2.1
GENERAL SECTION: MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Eligibility to apply to Master’s degree programmes at universities of
applied sciences (programmes provided in Finnish, Swedish and
English)
Eligibility to apply to a UAS Master’s degree programme is conferred by an appropriate UAS
Bachelor’s degree or another appropriate higher education degree and at least three years
of subsequent work experience in a relevant field. A relevant field is considered to include
both the field being applied to and the field of the previous higher education degree.
Basic educational requirements
Each university of applied sciences determines the basic educational requirements
separately for each programme choice.
The degree used in the application procedure must be completed such that the copy of the
final degree certificate will arrive at the admissions office of the relevant university of
applied sciences by the date specified in advance (see the Schedule Appendix).
However, a degree taken outside Finland must be complete by the end of the application
period if the applicant is not an EU/EEA citizen. In order to prove their eligibility to apply,
anyone applying with a non-Finnish degree certificate must submit a copy of the final
certificate used as the basis for application by the deadline specified in advance (see the
Schedule Appendix) to the admissions office of the first-choice university of applied
sciences.
If a certificate was issued in a language other than Finnish, Swedish or English, the applicant
must submit a copy of the certificate translated into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official
(authorised) translator to the admissions office of the first-choice university of applied
sciences. Such copies must be submitted to the admissions office by the deadline specified

office of each university of applied sciences to which he or she is applying by the deadline
specified in advance (see the Schedule Appendix).
Work experience requirements
Eligibility to apply requires three years of work experience accumulated as from the date of
award of the final degree certificate and obtained no later than 31 July 2016 for the spring
application period and no later than 31 December 2016 for the autumn application period.
Universities of applied sciences also accept work experience obtained after completion of a
post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma (in any field of education) but prior to
taking the higher education degree. At least three years of work experience obtained in a
relevant field is also required in such cases.
Entrepreneurship will be accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a
certificate attesting that he or she is or has been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL
pension scheme (YEL = statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs; MYEL = statutory
pension scheme for farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their
family members). Entrepreneurship abroad will be substantiated with equivalent official
documents.
Instead of work experience, artistic activities of equivalent duration, verifiable by evidence
such as a portfolio, may be required in Crafts and Design, Media and Visual Arts, Theatre
and Dance, and Music (Act 932/2014).
In Seafaring, at least six months of officer service aboard a vessel approved by the Finnish
Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), as per an extract of the seamen’s register, is accepted for
the Master’s Degree Programme in Marine Technology. An additional requirement is work
experience in the seafaring field either at sea or on land, such that the above-mentioned
officer duties and other seafaring work experience constitute at least three years of work
experience when combined.
Work experience will be indicated in full months. Applicants should convert part-time work
into full-time equivalents such that 150 hours or 20 working days lasting at least 7 hours per
day correspond to one month of work. Work experience does not have to be continuous or
obtained working for the same employer. The amount of work experience points awarded for
parallel employment relationships may only equate to the amount awarded for full-time
employment.
Military or non-military national service, women’s voluntary military service or child-care
leave will not be counted towards work experience.

Submitting degree and employment certificates
Degree and employment certificates and any possible other certificates will be checked for
those admitted as students. Admission is conditional until the university of applied sciences
has checked school and employment certificates. The university of applied sciences may
cancel admission if an applicant fails to submit certificates by the specified deadline, or if an
applicant has provided false information on his or her application form.
Work experience must be verified with an employment certificate provided by the employer.
An employment certificate must indicate details such as the exact start and end dates of
employment, the employer’s contact information, work duties, as well as working hours for
part-time work. If the employment is still ongoing, the applicant should request a temporary
employment certificate from the employer.
If an original employment certificate is in a language other than Finnish, Swedish or English,
the applicant must submit a copy of the certificate translated into Finnish, Swedish or English
by an official (authorised) translator, indicating the translator’s name, signature and stamp,
along with the copy of the original certificate to the relevant admissions offices.
2.2
Accessibility in student admissions
A person invited to sit an entrance examination may submit a separate application to request
the right to special arrangements for taking the examination. The application should indicate

2.3
Admissions criteria for Master’s degree programmes provided in
Finnish, Swedish and English
Entrance examination and/or advance assignment
An entrance examination and/or an advance assignment total 100 points (an entrance
examination may include an interview). The minimum acceptable score is 20 points.
Language proficiency will be assessed in connection with the entrance examination/advance
assignment for those applying to programmes provided in English.

The grade awarded for a Bachelor’s thesis, school performance and work experience may
be taken into account as part of the entrance examination/advance assignment.
2.4
Selection between applicants with equal admission scores
In cases of equal admission scores, applicants will be ranked on the following grounds:
1. entrance examination and/or advance assignment;
2. the preferred programme ranking on the application form.
If these criteria fail to produce a difference between tied applicants, a university of applied
sciences may choose to admit all or none of the equally ranked applicants, or the applicants

programmes in Humanities and Education. The field-specific recommendation further
specifies the General Section of this document.

3.1
Degree programmes in Finnish
Student selection
Those applying to study within Humanities and Education must have sufficient health and
functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work placement
periods as part of the studies. Information about health requirements within the field is
available on UAS websites and on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) service.
Applicants are required to provide information concerning their health status and functional
capacity as required to assess admission at the request of the university of applied sciences
concerned, as well as information on any possible prior decision on cancellation of their
study entitlement.
Students are required to produce a criminal records extract at the request of the university of
applied sciences, if working with minors forms an essential part of the tasks assigned to
them during their studies or work placement periods as part of their studies.
Universities of applied sciences are entitled to require a student to produce a certificate for a
drugs test, if there is any reason to suspect that the student is under the influence of drugs
during practical assignments or during a work placement as part of their studies, or that the
student is addicted to drugs.

Within Humanities and Education, universities of applied sciences engage in admissions cooperation when organising entrance examinations in the following two admission groups for
full-time studies: Bachelor of Humanities, Degree Programme in Civic Activities and Youth
Work, and Bachelor of Humanities, Degree Programme in Civic Activities and Youth Work,
Christian Child and Youth Work, as well as Bachelor of Humanities, Degree Programme in
Interpreting, Sign Language and Interpreting.
Admissions co-operation means that universities of applied sciences included in the same
admission group will accept an entrance examination taken at another university of applied
sciences as such. Each applicant will be invited to sit an entrance examination in a unit of
the university of applied sciences ranked highest on the application form that provides the
programme in question.

study skills, aptitude for the field, motivation, social capability and creativity. Applicants must
score at least 50 points in the entrance examination (max. 100 pts.) and must pass each
compulsory section.
The entrance examinations will be organised during the spring joint application period from 7
to 9 June 2016 and during the autumn joint application period from 2 to 3 November 2016
(Mikkeli UAS). The entrance examination will take place on a single day for each applicant.
The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.

Invitations to sit an entrance examination will be sent to those eligible applicants who have
returned the advance assignment by 3 pm 2 on Monday, 25 April, and completed it to an
acceptable standard. The advance assignment and its deadline date will be made available
on the websites of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences and Humak University of Applied
Sciences (www.diak.fi and www.humak.fi, respectively) at the beginning of the joint
application period.
The entrance examination consists of Finnish language assignments, memory tests,
assignments measuring sign language acquisition, interviews and sections assessing
aptitude. The examination aims to assess applicants’ aptitude and motivation for the field
diversely.
The entrance examination for Sign Language and Interpreting will be organised from 7 to 9
June 2016. The entrance examination will take place on a single day for each applicant. The
entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.

If these criteria fail to produce a difference between tied applicants, a university of applied
sciences may choose to admit all or none of the equally ranked applicants, or the applicants
may be automatically ranked by lots drawn by a computer system.

An entrance examination may include sections measuring aptitude for the field and an
interview. Work experience obtained by applicants in the humanities and education field and
their orientation to the field will also be taken into account as part of points awarded for the
entrance examination. Applicants must score at least 50 points in the entrance examination
(max. 100 pts.) and must pass each compulsory section.
Any work experience obtained at or after the age of 18 by 31 July 2016 for the spring
application period and by 31 December 2016 for the autumn application period will be taken
into account as work experience, as specified in the application instructions. A period of two
months of full-time work experience equates to one point. Points may only be awarded for
work experience verified by an employment certificate provided by the employer, which will
be checked for those admitted. An employment certificate must indicate details such as the

exact start and end dates of employment, the employer’s contact information, work duties,
as well as working hours for part-time work.
Entrepreneurship will be accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a
certificate attesting that he or she is or has been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL
pension scheme (YEL = statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs; MYEL = statutory
pension scheme for farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their
family members). Entrepreneurship abroad will be substantiated with equivalent official
documents.
Applicants should convert part-time work into full-time equivalents such that 150 hours or 20
working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work
experience does not have to be continuous or obtained working for the same employer. The
amount of work experience points awarded for parallel employment relationships may only
equate to the amount awarded for full-time employment. No periods of practical work
placements or on-the-job learning included in a qualification will be counted towards work
experience.
The entrance examinations for the Degree Programme in Civic Activities and Youth Work
provided as part-time studies will be organised during the spring joint application period from
30 May to 2 June 2016 (Humak UAS) and during the autumn joint application period on 15
November 2016 (Mikkeli UAS). The entrance examination will take place on a single day for
each applicant. The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application

Diaconia University of Applied Sciences
Invitations to sit an entrance examination will only be sent to those eligible applicants who
have submitted a certificate of Finnish language proficiency required for the programme to
the admissions office of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences by the specified deadline.
Applicants must score at least 35 points in the entrance examination (max. 100 pts.) and
must pass each section.
Those applying to study Community Interpreting will demonstrate their proficiency in two
working languages, A and B languages. The A working language is usually the applicant’s
native language. The B working language is a non-native language, which the applicant also
knows well enough to use it as a target language. One of the working languages must
always be Finnish.
Applicants who have completed the qualification providing eligibility to apply in Finnish can
use the qualification certificate in question (such as the general upper secondary school
certificate, the matriculation examination certificate or an upper secondary vocational
certificate) to demonstrate sufficient Finnish language proficiency. Those who have obtained
the qualification providing eligibility to apply in some other language will demonstrate their
Finnish language proficiency using a National Certificate of Language Proficiency, a Civil
Service Language Proficiency Certificate (obtained in or after 2003) or a qualification
certificate for the Further Qualification for Community Interpreters.

The required certificates of Finnish language proficiency must be submitted to the
admissions office of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences by the end of the application
period.
Applicants’ proficiency in both working languages will also be assessed as part of the
entrance examination. In addition to the assignments in Finnish and the other working
language, the entrance examination consists of an interview and assignments measuring
study and work skills.
The entrance examination for Community Interpreting will be held on 2 June 2016. The
entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.

This Recommendation describes admissions criteria for degree programmes provided in
Finnish, Swedish and English. Not all programmes are available during all joint application
periods, even if they are mentioned in this document. The joint application procedure in the
field of Culture does not involve any admissions co-operation, which means that all
universities of applied sciences will implement their entrance examinations independently.
Each UAS website provides more specific information about programme start dates, other
relevant dates and details relating to the application procedure.
General eligibility to apply to degree programmes and admissions criteria for Master’s
degree programmes have been explained in the General Section of this document.

For programmes provided in the Culture field as part-time studies, work experience or artistic
activities may be taken into account as advance evidence or as part of an entrance
examination. Applicants are required to substantiate their work experience with employment
certificates and artistic activities with evidence such as portfolios or in some other manner as
requested by the university of applied sciences. The university of applied sciences will
assess the eligibility of artistic activities based on the evidence provided.
Where work experience is used in the joint application procedure, any general work
experience obtained at or after the age of 18 by 31 July 2016 will be taken into account.
Work experience does not have to be continuous or obtained working for the same
employer. For parallel employment relationships, only the amount equivalent to full-time
employment will be taken into account. If an original employment certificate is in a language
other than Finnish, Swedish or English, the applicant must submit a copy of the certificate
translated into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official (authorised) translator, indicating
the translator’s name, signature and stamp, along with the copy of the original certificate to
the relevant admissions offices.

Entrance examinations
The joint entrance examination for programmes in Natural Resources will be organised on 1
June 2016. All eligible applicants will be invited to sit the examination. The examination may
be taken in Finnish or Swedish at the following locations: Forssa, Hattula (Lepaa),
Hämeenlinna (Evo), Iisalmi, Ilmajoki, Joensuu, Mikkeli, Oulu, Raasepori/Raseborg,
Rovaniemi, Saarijärvi, Tammela (Mustiala) and Tampere.
Applicants must confirm their chosen examination venue on the application form. The
confirmation is binding.
The maximum score for the entrance examination is 40 points in total. In order to be
considered for admission, applicants must score at least 14 points in the entrance
examination.
For full-time studies, universities of applied sciences will accept an entrance examination
taken at another university of applied sciences as such. A separate entrance examination for
the Degree Programme in Landscape Design will be organised in Hattula (Lepaa) on 2 June
2016. The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in
question.
For programmes provided in Natural Resources as part-time studies, each university of
applied sciences organises its own entrance examination, carrying a maximum score of 70
points. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must score at least 30 points in
the entrance examination. Each university of applied sciences will announce the date and
structure of its entrance examination on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) service and on its
own website. The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application
period in question.

There is one English-language programme choice leading to the Bachelor of Natural
Resources degree available at Novia UAS, the two-year Degree Programme in Sustainable
Coastal Management (SCM). The programme is provided as full-time studies. No Englishlanguage programmes are available as part-time studies.

Eligibility to apply to the English-language Degree Programme in Sustainable Coastal
Management at Novia UAS deviates from Section 1.1 of the General Section in that the
basic educational requirement is a two-year higher education degree with a scope of 120
credits. The prior degree may be in Natural Resources or the Environment, while degrees in
Business and Economics, Technology or Biology are also accepted.
If several applicants achieve equal admission scores, selection will be carried out according
to the following criteria:
1. entrance examination score;
2. points awarded for work experience.
Entrance examinations
All eligible applicants will be invited to sit a UAS entrance examination, the date of which will
be confirmed later on the UAS website and in the invitation letter.
The entrance examination tests applicants’ interest in and aptitude for the field. The
maximum score for the first examination section is 50 points. The minimum acceptable score
is 18 points.
The second examination section tests study motivation. The maximum score for this section
is 40 points, while the minimum acceptable score is 12 points. Based on the examination,
applicants’ English language proficiency will be assessed on a scale of pass/fail.

Admission is not possible without participation in the entrance examination. The maximum
score for the entrance examination is 90 points. Applicants must score at least 30 points and
must pass all sections in order to be considered for admission.
Calculation and accumulation of points awarded for work experience
Any work experience obtained at or after the age of 18 will be taken into account by 31 July
2016 for the spring application period and by 31 December 2016 for the autumn application
period. A period of two months of full-time work experience equates to one point.
Points may only be awarded for work experience verified by an employment certificate
provided by the employer, which will be checked for those admitted. An employment
certificate must indicate details such as the exact start and end dates of employment, the
employer’s contact information, work duties, as well as working hours for part-time work.
There is no need to submit employment certificates during the application period.
Military or non-military national service, women’s voluntary military service or child-care
leave will not be counted towards work experience.
Entrepreneurship will be accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a
certificate attesting that he or she is or has been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL
pension scheme (YEL = statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs; MYEL = statutory
pension scheme for farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their
family members). Entrepreneurship abroad will be substantiated with equivalent official
documents.
Applicants should convert part-time work into full-time equivalents such that 150 hours or 20
working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work
experience does not have to be continuous or obtained working for the same employer. The
amount of work experience points awarded for parallel employment relationships may only
equate to the amount awarded for full-time employment. If an original employment certificate
is in a language other than Finnish, Swedish or English, the applicant must submit a copy of
the certificate translated into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official (authorised)

The common section of the entrance examination will be held during the spring joint
application period on Tuesday, 7 June 2016, and during the autumn joint application period
on Tuesday, 1 November 2016, starting at 10 am 3.
The entrance examination is based on advance material, which will be made available on
the websites of all universities of applied sciences using the national examination from 10
May to 7 June 2016 for the spring application period and from 4 October to 1 November
2016 for the autumn application period. Applicants are not allowed to bring the material to
the examination.
The entrance examination consists of two sections, one of which is an interview or an essay,
at the discretion of each university of applied sciences. Interviews may be held before or
after the written section or, where necessary, also on the day following the written section.
The entrance examination places emphasis on aptitude for studying the field, motivation and
mother tongue, English language and problem-solving skills as well as mathematical/logical
thinking. Applicants must score at least 25 points in the entrance examination and at least
one point for both sections. The examination result is valid for the duration of the application

Eligibility to apply for UAS studies has been determined in the General Section of this
document.
Those applying to study within Health Care and Social Services must have sufficient health
and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work
placement periods as part of the studies. Information about health requirements within the
field is available on UAS websites and on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) service.
Those applying to the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science must have
adequate vision to work on a microscope and normal colour vision. Those admitted to the
programme are required to submit a certificate provided by an ophthalmologist, optician or
optometrist at the beginning of their studies as instructed by the university of applied
sciences. The university of applied sciences may cancel admission if an individual admitted
as a student fails to submit such a certificate by the specified deadline, or if such individual
cannot be considered fit to study on the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory
Science based on the certificate provided.
Those applying to the field should bear in mind that:
• studying and working in a profession require good mental balance;
• the field is not suitable for illegal drug users or for alcohol or legal drug abusers;
• conditions such as musculoskeletal diseases, chronic skin diseases and allergies
may lead to health issues during studies or later on in working life;
• blood-borne disease may restrict the progress of studies and employment.
Applicants are required to provide information concerning their health status and functional
capacity as required to assess admission at the request of the university of applied sciences
concerned, as well as information on any possible prior decision on cancellation of their
study entitlement.
Students are required to produce a criminal records extract at the request of the university of
applied sciences, if working with minors forms an essential part of the tasks assigned to
them during their studies or work placement periods as part of their studies.
Universities of applied sciences are entitled to require a student to produce a certificate for a
drugs test, if there is any reason to suspect that the student is under the influence of drugs
during practical assignments or during a work placement as part of their studies, or that the
student is addicted to drugs.

The student selection process includes two phases
All applicants are required to participate in a national pre-selection test without being
specifically invited.
Based on the pre-selection test, a number of eligible applicants will be invited to sit an
entrance examination. The number of applicants invited to sit an entrance examination will
be at least double the number of places available.
The final selection will then be carried out on the basis of points awarded for the
matriculation examination certificate and for the entrance examination, or exclusively on the
basis of points awarded for the latter.

Those applying to study within Health Care and Social Services must have sufficient health
and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work
placement periods as part of the studies. Information about health requirements within the
field is available on UAS websites and on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) service.
Those applying to the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science must have
adequate vision to work on a microscope and normal colour vision. Those admitted to the
programme are required to submit a certificate provided by an ophthalmologist, optician or
optometrist at the beginning of their studies as instructed by the university of applied
sciences. The university of applied sciences may cancel admission if an individual admitted
as a student fails to submit such a certificate by the specified deadline, or if such individual
cannot be considered fit to study on the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory
Science based on the certificate provided.
Those applying to the field should bear in mind that:
• studying and working in a profession require good mental balance;
• the field is not suitable for illegal drug users or for alcohol or legal drug abusers;

conditions such as musculoskeletal diseases, chronic skin diseases and allergies
may lead to health issues during studies or later on in working life;
blood-borne disease may restrict the progress of studies and employment.
Applicants are required to provide information concerning their health status and functional
capacity as required to assess admission at the request of the university of applied sciences
concerned, as well as information on any possible prior decision on cancellation of their
study entitlement.
Students are required to produce a criminal records extract at the request of the university of
applied sciences, if working with minors forms an essential part of the tasks assigned to
them during their studies or work placement periods as part of their studies.
Universities of applied sciences are entitled to require a student to produce a certificate for a
drugs test, if there is any reason to suspect that the student is under the influence of drugs
during practical assignments or during a work placement as part of their studies, or that the
student is addicted to drugs.
Admission is conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked original school
certificates for those admitted, as well as certificates confirming adequate vision for those
admitted to the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science, and received any
evidence of health status that it may have requested.
A university of applied sciences may cancel admission for the following reasons:
• An applicant fails to submit certificates by the deadline specified by the university of
applied sciences.
• An applicant has provided false information about his or her grades.
• An applicant admitted to the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science
cannot be considered fit for the programme on the basis of a certificate of visual
acuity.
• An applicant cannot be considered fit to study on a Health Care and Social Services
programme due to his or her health status and/or functional capacity.
• An applicant has failed to disclose details relating to his or her health status.
• An applicant has concealed cancellation of his or her prior study entitlement.

Entrance examination and work experience

Entrance examinations are organised separately by each university of applied sciences. The
entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.
An entrance examination may include sports tests, instruction demonstrations, psychological
aptitude tests, written or material-based writing tests, group situations and personal
interviews. The number of different sections and the weight assigned to these vary by
university of applied sciences. Each university of applied sciences will provide more specific
details on the sections of the entrance examination and the weights assigned to these on its
own Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) site.
In addition, applicants’ orientation to the field and field-specific work experience will also be
assessed as part of the entrance examination.
Assessment of orientation to the field may take account of the following types of
accomplishments:
• professional preparation for education (such as 4–8-month courses provided by
sports institutes);
• national goal-oriented training provided by sports and youth organisations;
• other applicable professional training and Open University study modules;
• a general upper secondary school diploma in physical education;
• positions of trust in organisations and associations, managing projects and other
such activities;
• sporting achievements and voluntary instruction and coaching activities.
Work experience points will be awarded for suitable work experience in sports, youth and
leisure activities as well as in teaching or education. Work experience must have been
obtained at or after the age of 16 and by the end of the application period (a period of two
months of work experience equates to one point in the selection process). In terms of parttime work (at least 20 hours per week), 150 hours of work for the same employer correspond
to one month of work experience.
Military and non-military national service will be counted towards work experience such that
a period of service completed by the end of the application period will be accepted (a threemonth period of service corresponds to one month of work experience).

university of applied sciences in connection with the entrance examination, as well as copies
of any certificates that they wish to be taken into account as part of assessment of their

Recommendations for programme choices relating to the Bachelor’s degrees in the
Technology field are presented in Table 1 below. Each programme choice will be
supplemented with an indication of the type of implementation, which is either full-time
studies or part-time studies. It is recommended to use a specifier in cases where education
focuses on a specific area of the programme choice from the start. In cases where a
programme starts with a broader theme and the specialisation option is only selected at a
later stage of the studies, it is recommended to use the title of the programme choice
according to Table 1. In many cases, the programme title is the same as the equivalent
programme choice, but it is also possible to use more specific programme titles, as shown in
some examples in Table 1.

universities of applied sciences providing programmes in Technology and applicants may
choose the one where they will take it. The autumn entrance examination will only be
organised at those universities of applied sciences that provide Technology programmes
starting in January 2017.
Applicants must confirm their chosen examination venue on the application form. The
confirmation is binding.
When participating in a national entrance examination in Technology at the university of
applied sciences confirmed on the application form, applicants will receive an examination
result for all of the programmes in Engineering, Laboratory Sciences, Construction
Management, Construction Architecture and Seafaring that they have listed on their
application forms.
An entrance examination is a written test lasting 3 to 4 hours. It measures study skills and
aptitude for technological fields (logical reasoning skills and basic competence in
mathematics and physics/chemistry). Applicants taking the examination may choose
assignments in either Finnish or Swedish. The examination is common to everyone
regardless of their educational background. The entrance examination result is valid for the
duration of the application period in question. Applicants must score at least 10 out of the
maximum of 40 points in the entrance examination.
The 2016 spring entrance examination will be organised on Thursday, 26 May 2016, and the
autumn entrance examination will be organised on Friday, 4 November 2016.
SEPARATE APTITUDE TESTS AND FINNISH/SWEDISH LANGUAGE TESTS
In addition to the national entrance examination in Technology, some Engineering
programmes also require applicants to participate in separate aptitude tests organised by
individual universities of applied sciences providing such programmes. These vary by
programme choice in terms of relative weight, contents and minimum pass requirements.
Some Finnish-language universities of applied sciences require applicants whose mother
tongue and/or schooling language is not Finnish to take a separate Finnish language test on
Monday, 30 May 2016, for the spring application period and on Monday, 7 November 2016,
for the autumn application period, or at some other time as determined by an individual
university of applied sciences.
Separate aptitude tests will be organised on Friday, 27 May 2016, such that applicants may
participate in the national entrance examination in Technology at the university of applied
sciences that they have confirmed on the application form on Thursday, 26 May 2016.
Some Swedish-language universities of applied sciences require applicants whose mother
tongue and/or schooling language is not Swedish, Danish or Norwegian to take a separate
Swedish language test, which will be organised on the same date as the national entrance
examination in Technology, i.e. 26 May 2016 and 4 November 2016, or as part of an
entrance examination or an interview. Those applicants who are due to participate in the
entrance examination at a Finnish-language university of applied sciences will be provided
with an opportunity to take the Swedish language test at some other time.

The entrance examination will be organised at the Emergency Services College on 6–7 June
2016. The maximum examination score is 70 points and it consists of the following sections:

WORK EXPERIENCE IN FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICES AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE
CENTRE OPERATIONS
Work experience points will be awarded for work experience in fire and rescue services and
emergency response centre operations (full-time work experience in these fields obtained
within fire and rescue services or at an emergency response centre following completion of a
Fire Fighter or Emergency Response Centre Operator Qualification or an equivalent
previous qualification) or other corresponding duties requiring a qualification in fire and
rescue services. A period of two months of work experience equates to one point, up to 30
points in total. Applicants should enter their field-specific work experience on the application
form in full months.
Applicants must be able to substantiate the amount and type of their work experience by
providing certificates. Employment certificates will be verified in connection with the entrance
examination.

The entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Marine Technology, Maritime
Engineer, consists of the national entrance examination in Technology and an English
language test, which will be organised on Thursday, 26 May 2016. Applicants must sit the
examination in the Seafaring unit of either Kymenlaakso UAS or Satakunta UAS. The
content of the national entrance examination in Technology has been described above in
connection with the Degree Programmes in Engineering and Laboratory Sciences. The
maximum score for the English language test for the Degree Programme in Marine
Technology is 60 points (the minimum acceptable score is 20 points).
Work experience
Applicants to Seafaring programmes may receive up to 40 points for their seafaring work
experience, such that a period of one month of seafaring work experience equates to one
point.
For the Degree Programme in Marine Technology, Master Mariner, officer service aboard a
vessel approved by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), as per an extract of the
seamen’s register, as well as in the Finnish Defence Forces, completed by the end of the
application period, will be accepted as seafaring work experience.
For the Degree Programme in Marine Technology, Maritime Engineer, officer service aboard

11.3 Other information
Medical certificate
Any applicant admitted as a student must submit a medical certificate issued by a seamen’s
health centre to the university of applied sciences no later than 9 September 2016. The
medical certificate should indicate that:

the individual’s visual and auditory acuity and colour vision conform to the
requirements laid down in the relevant Decree issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs
and Health;
the individual is fit for the intended duties in terms of health status and functional
capacity and does not have any disability or illness that would prevent or clearly
complicate his or her work;
the individual does not suffer from a disease that can be expected to worsen at work
or endanger maritime safety or the health of others on board a vessel.
The university of applied sciences may cancel admission if an applicant fails to submit a
medical certificate by the specified deadline, or if an applicant cannot be considered fit to
study on a Seafaring programme based on the certificate provided.
CANCELLATION OF STUDY ENTITLEMENT
Seafaring programmes are governed by section 33 of the Polytechnics Act (932/2014),
which states that a student’s study entitlement may be cancelled in cases where studies
involve requirements concerning customer or transport safety and the student has been
found to be unsuitable for the studies, because:

the student has repeatedly or seriously endangered the health or safety of another
person during the course of his or her studies, thus proving to be clearly unsuitable to
perform practical assignments or work placements as part of his or her studies;

it is evident that the student fails to fulfil admission requirements in terms of health
status and functional capacity;
during the application phase, the student has concealed such information on a
decision on cancellation of study entitlement that could have prevented his or her
admission as a student.

Finnish and Swedish and then for programmes provided in English. The Business and
Administration field covers several programmes and programme choices. More specific

12.1 Degree programmes in Finnish and Swedish
Full-time studies
Degree programmes and programme choices
General eligibility to apply to degree programmes has been explained in the General Section
of this document. Twelve Finnish-language and two Swedish-language programme choices
leading to the Bachelor of Business Administration degree will be available as full-time
studies. The table below comprises the titles of the programmes and programme choices in
the forms recommended for use. The left-hand column lists the programmes on offer and the
right-hand column specifies the programme choices available. The same degree programme
may be available through one or more programme choices.

Entrance examination
All eligible applicants will be invited to sit a UAS entrance examination. Applicants must
score at least 10 points in the entrance examination (max. 40 points). If a specific

programme deviates from this, it will be mentioned below under the programme in question.
The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.
Universities of applied sciences engage in co-operation where programmes in the same
admission group will accept an entrance examination taken at another university of applied
sciences as such. Applicants must participate in all examination sections. If an applicant
omits a section, the entrance examination will be failed.
1. A. The national entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Business
Management will be organised during the spring joint application period on Friday, 10
June 2016, and the advance material for the examination will be made available on the
websites of all universities of applied sciences using the national examination from 9
May to 10 June 2016. During the autumn joint application period, the entrance
examination will be organised at 12 noon 5 on Wednesday, 2 November 2016, and the
advance material will be made available from 30 September to 2 November 2016.
Applicants are not allowed to bring the advance material to the examination.
A national entrance examination in Business Management consists of the following three
sections: an essay or an interview (10 pts.), multiple-choice questions based on advance
material (15 pts.) and a section measuring logical reasoning and mathematical
competence (15 pts.). The entrance examination lasts two hours, but applicants must
reserve three hours for the examination, including arrangements.
B. The Specialisation in International Trade will be available at Lahti University of
Applied Sciences during the spring joint application period. It uses the same entrance
examination as the Degree Programme in Business Management (see point 1. A.) and is
included in the same admission group.
C. The Specialisation in Service Business will be available at Lahti University of
Applied Sciences during the autumn joint application period. It uses the same entrance
examination as the Degree Programme in Business Management (see point 1. A.) and is
included in the same admission group.
D. The Specialisation in Entrepreneurship and Team Leadership will be made
available at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. Students will be selected on the
basis of the sum total of points awarded for the advance assignment (max. 40 pts.) and
the entrance examination (max. 60 pts.). Applicants must score at least one (1) point for
both sections. The entrance examination will be organised on Monday, 6 June 2016. The
Specialisation in Entrepreneurship and Team Leadership forms a separate admission
group. More details will be available on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) website and the
Tampere UAS website.
E. The Degree Programme in Financial and Business Management will be available
at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The entrance examination for the
programme starting in August 2016 will be organised at 12 noon on Wednesday, 1 June
2016. The duration of the examination is three hours, including arrangements; the
duration of the actual examination is two hours.
An entrance examination consists of the following three sections: an essay or an
interview (10 pts.), multiple-choice questions based on advance material (15 pts.) and a
section measuring logical reasoning and mathematical competence (15 pts.). Applicants
must score at least three points for the mathematical section. The advance material for
the entrance examination will be available online from 2 May to 2 June 2016. Applicants
are not allowed to bring the advance material to the examination. Applicants must bring a

scientific calculator to the examination. The Degree Programme in Financial and
Business Management forms a separate admission group.
F. The Degree Programme in Sales will be available at Haaga-Helia University of
Applied Sciences and Turku University of Applied Sciences. The programme uses the
same entrance examination as the Degree Programme in Business Management (see
point 1. A.) and is included in the same admission group.
G. The Degree Programme in Sales and Visual Merchandising will be available at the
Porvoo Campus of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The programme uses
the same entrance examination as the Degree Programme in Business Management
(see point 1. A.) and is included in the same admission group.
H. The Degree Programme in Sales and Marketing will be made available at
Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences. The programme uses the same entrance
examination as the Degree Programme in Business Management (see point 1. A.) and is
included in the same admission group.
I. The Degree Programme in Business Logistics will only be available as full-time
studies during the spring joint application period at Kymenlaakso and Turku Universities
of Applied Sciences. The programme uses the same entrance examination as the
Degree Programme in Business Management (see point 1. A.) and is included in the
same admission group.
J. The Degree Programme for Multilingual Management Assistants will be available
at Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences during the autumn joint application
period. The programme uses the same entrance examination as the Degree Programme
in Business Management (see point 1. A.) and is included in the same admission group.
2. The entrance examination for the Degree Programme for Multilingual Management
Assistants will be organised during the spring joint application period on Thursday, 26
May 2016, and the advance material will be made available on the Haaga-Helia UAS
website from 25 April to 26 May 2016. Applicants are not allowed to bring the advance
material to the entrance examination. During the autumn joint application period, the
entrance examination will be organised on Thursday, 27 October 2016, and the advance
material will be made available on the Haaga-Helia UAS website from 26 September to
27 October 2016. Applicants are not allowed to bring the advance material to the
entrance examination. The entrance examination consists of the following three sections:
a written test (min./max. scores 8/20 pts., respectively), language tests and a group
interview (min./max. scores 2/20 pts., respectively). Each applicant must take a language
test in English and in another language that he or she is studying. The languages
available are Chinese, French, German, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. Language tests
are based on a general upper secondary school language syllabus or equivalent and test
mastery of linguistic structures, among other things. An applicant will be exempt from
one or both language tests, if he or she has received at least grade M in the language(s)
in question (either advanced or basic syllabus) in the matriculation examination or if he
or she is a native speaker of the language(s). If an applicant fails the English language
test, his or her entrance examination score will be reduced by 17 points in selection
queue 1. If an applicant fails the other language test, his or her entrance examination
score will be reduced by 14 points in selection queue 1. If an applicant fails both
language tests, he or she will be excluded from admission.
The entrance examination places emphasis on aptitude for the field, motivation and
learning skills. More details will be available on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) website.

The Degree Programme for Multilingual Management Assistants at Haaga-Helia UAS
forms a separate admission group.
3. The Degree Programme in Library and Information Services will be available at Oulu,
Seinäjoki and Turku Universities of Applied Sciences. The entrance examination will be
organised in Seinäjoki, Turku and Oulu on Tuesday, 7 June 2016. The entrance
examination consists of the following two sections: a group interview (max. 20 pts.) and a
written section (max. 20 pts.). The entrance examination places emphasis on aptitude for
the field, motivation and learning skills. There is no advance material for the entrance
examination. Oulu, Seinäjoki and Turku Universities of Applied Sciences engage in
admissions co-operation in terms of the Degree Programme in Library and Information
Services.
4. The entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Business Information
Technology will be organised during the spring joint application period at 12 noon on
Thursday, 9 June 2016, and during the autumn joint application period at 12 noon on
Thursday, 3 November 2016. The Degree Programme in Business Information
Technology forms a separate admission group. The advance material will be made
available on the websites of all universities of applied sciences using the national
examination from 9 May to 9 June 2016 for the spring application period and from 3
October to 3 November 2016 for the autumn application period. Applicants are not
allowed to bring the advance material to the examination.
The examination measures logical thinking and problem-solving skills (max.15 pts.) and
acquisition of new knowledge based on advance material (max.15 pts.) through a written
section common to all applicants. In addition to the written section, the entrance
examination includes a section measuring motivation and aptitude for the field (max. 10
pts.). Each university of applied sciences arranging the entrance examination will
implement this section as it considers most suitable, such as using an essay, an
interview or a combination of these, or in some other way it sees fit. Each university of
applied sciences will post further information about the form of the section measuring
motivation and aptitude to its own application pages during the application period at the
latest.
Applicants are required to score at least 4 points for the section measuring motivation
and aptitude and at least 12 points in the whole entrance examination in order to be
considered for admission.
5. The Degree Programme in Security Management will be available at Laurea
University of Applied Sciences and the entrance examination will be organised during the
spring joint application period on Monday, 30 May 2016. The Degree Programme in
Security Management forms a separate admission group. The advance material for the
entrance examination will be available online from 29 April to 30 May 2016. The entrance
examination consists of a written section and an interview or an essay. Applicants are
not allowed to bring the advance material to the examination.

Points awarded for work experience
It is recommended that points awarded for work experience should mainly be used for
admissions to part-time studies. Calculation of points awarded for work experience will only
take account of work experience obtained at or after the age of 18 and accumulated no later
than 31 July for the spring application period and no later than 31 December for the autumn
application period. Two months of general (not necessarily field-specific) work experience
equates to one point.

Part-time work will be converted into full-time equivalents such that 150 hours or 20 full
working days (at least 7 hours per day) correspond to one month of work. Work experience
does not have to be continuous or obtained working for the same employer. No periods of
practical work placements or on-the-job learning included in a qualification used to apply will
be counted towards work experience. Military or non-military national service or child-care
leave will not be counted towards work experience. Points may only be awarded for work
experience verified by a certificate provided by the employer. Entrepreneurship will be
accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a certificate attesting that he or she
is or has been covered under the statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs (YEL) or for
farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their family members
(MYEL).
Applicants must be able to substantiate the amount of their work experience by providing
employment certificates, which will be verified for those admitted as students. In addition to
copies of employment certificates in the original language, each applicant must submit
copies of employment certificates translated into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official
(authorised) translator, if the original document is in none of these languages. Such
translations must be signed and stamped by the translator. Copies should only be submitted
when accepting a place to study.

advance material (20 pts.) and a section measuring logical reasoning and mathematical
competence (20 pts.). The advance material will be made available on the websites of all
universities of applied sciences using the national examination from 25 April to 25 May
2016 for the spring application period and from 30 September to 2 November 2016 for
the autumn application period. Applicants are not allowed to bring the material to the
examination. The written test lasts two hours, but applicants must reserve 3 to 6 hours
for the examination, including any possible interviews.
B. The Specialisation in SME Business Management will be available at Seinäjoki
University of Applied Sciences as part of the Degree Programme in Business
Management during the autumn joint application period. Those wishing to apply should
participate in the national entrance examination in Business Management (see point 1.
A.). The specialisation is included in the same admission group as Business
Management programmes.
2. The Degree Programme in Purchasing and Sales will be available at Turku University
of Applied Sciences during the spring joint application period. The entrance examination
comprises an advance assignment, which will be made available on the UAS website
(www.turkuamk.fi) from 15 February to 31 May 2016.
3. The Degree Programme in Business Logistics will be available as part-time studies at
Lahti University of Applied Sciences during the spring joint application period. Those
wishing to apply to the programme should participate in the national entrance
examination in Business Management (see point 1. A.). The programme is included in
the same admission group as Business Management programmes.
4. The Degree Programme in Library and Information Services will be available as parttime studies at Turku University of Applied Sciences during the spring joint application
period. The entrance examination will be organised in Turku on Monday, 23 May 2016.
The entrance examination consists of the following two sections: a group interview (max.
35 pts.) and a written section (max. 35 pts.). The entrance examination places emphasis
on aptitude for the field, motivation and learning skills. There is no advance material for
the entrance examination.
5. The entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Business Information
Technology will be organised during the spring joint application period at 12 noon on
Thursday, 9 June 2016, and during the autumn joint application period at 12 noon on
Thursday, 3 November 2016. The Degree Programme in Business Information
Technology forms a separate admission group. The advance material will be made
available on the websites of all universities of applied sciences using the national
examination from 9 May to 9 June 2016 for the spring application period and from 3
October to 3 November 2016 for the autumn application period. Applicants are not

section measuring English language proficiency. Applicants must pass all sections. The
examination assesses study and teamwork skills, verbal and written expression skills as

are involved in admissions co-operation.

5. The national entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Business
Information Technology will be organised during the spring joint application period on
Friday, 22 April 2016, and the programme forms a separate admission group. The
entrance examination consists of the following three sections: a written assignment
based on advance material (min./max. scores 2/10 pts.), an assignment measuring
mathematical/logical reasoning (min./max. scores 6/20 pts.) and a group discussion or
an interview measuring English language proficiency (min./max. scores 2/10 pts.). The
examination assesses aptitude for the field, study and teamwork skills, verbal and written
expression skills as well as mathematical/logical reasoning skills. Applicants’ English
language proficiency will be assessed as part of the entrance examination and they must
pass all examination sections in order to be considered for admission. The Degree
Programmes in Business Information Technology are involved in admissions cooperation. More details will be available on the Opintopolku.fi (Studyinfo.fi) website.
6. The entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Security Management will be
organised on Tuesday, 19 April 2016, and the programme forms a separate admission
group. The examination consists of a written and verbal section. The written section
comprises an essay based on an article (min./max. scores 5/16 pts.) and
mathematical/logical assignments (min./max. scores 2/12 pts.). The verbal section
comprises an interview or a group discussion (min./max. scores 3/12 pts.) measuring
motivation and English language proficiency. Applicants must pass all sections. More

Degree programmes and programme choices

Entrance examinations
All eligible applicants will be invited to sit a UAS entrance examination. Applicants must

examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question. Universities
of applied sciences engage in co-operation where programmes in the same admission group
will accept an entrance examination taken at another university of applied sciences as such.
