SAN ANGELO — Warren Pilcher Wardlaw, 68, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away
Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, in Shannon Medical Center from complications of ALS.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21,
2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home. A graveside service will be
held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in Mertzon Cemetery.
Pastor Bill Harris of St. Luke United Methodist Church will
officiate.
Warren was born April 3, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas, to Janet
and Jake Wardlaw. He graduated from San Angelo Central
High School in 1963, and attended Texas Tech University.
On Oct. 15, 1965, he married Jane Ellis of San Angelo.
Warren was an avid outdoorsman and continued his involvement in the family ranches
until his death. He was a Texas State Muzzle Loader Champion three years in a row and
in 1965, he earned his pilot license.
Warren is survived by Jane, his wife of 48 years; three sons, Scott and his wife, Ginger,
of San Angelo, Jonathan and his wife, Courtney, of Odessa and Steven and his wife,
Michele, of Mertzon; five grandchildren, Whitney, Carlee, Jacob, Hayley and Abigail;
two brothers, Steve and his wife, Jane, H.R. Wardlaw III and his wife, Anna, both of San
Angelo; two nieces and three nephews; two sisters-in-law, Judy Whitney and Robin
Sugg; and Sparky and Dusty, Warren's four-legged friends. Warren was preceded in
death by his parents, Janet and Jake Wardlaw.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tom Granaghan, Dr. Michael Blanc, Dr. John Stevenson, Dr.
Archina Rao, Dr. Mark Davis and their staff at San Angelo Community Medical Center.
A special thanks to Dr. Stewart Smith, Dr. Tim Hopkins and Dr. Steve Boster and the
wonderful nurses and staff of the acute stroke floor of Shannon Medical Center. The
family greatly appreciates the blessed care given to Warren in his last days.

Joe B. Hunt

SAN ANGELO — Joe B. Hunt, former sheriff of Tom Green County, passed away at his
ranch on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
His great-niece, Jordyn Nicole Elkins, was born Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. As Jordyn's
mother, Amber Hunt Elkins, posted on her Facebook site, "God brought in an angel and
took another home."
In spite of the harsh realities he faced daily in law enforcement, Joe was always smiling,
positive and he exhibited the true joy of the Lord in his
everyday walk. Only the Lord knows how many people
he helped and ministered to during his life. His
longtime friend and co-worker Bill Fiveash said, "Joe
always treated everyone with respect, even the person
that did the most despicable act imaginable. Even the
inmates respected Sheriff Hunt. He would go over (to
the jail) and go to church with them."
Joe was born Nov. 9, 1944, in Kermit, Texas, to John
C. and Willie Mae (Williams) Hunt. With the
exception of the family living in Midland for one year
in the early 1950's, he lived in San Angelo until he left
for service in the Texas National Guard.
He attended public schools in San Angelo, graduating from Central High School in May
1963. He started college at San Angelo College in Fall 1963. He left college to join the
National Guard in January 1964.
In March 1965, Joe began working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on a
fish hatchery in Devine, Texas. He applied to the Texas National Guard Officer
Candidate School and in June 1966, was accepted to start the OCS Academy Class
Number 10.
Joe's law enforcement career began on Feb. 14, 1967, when he entered the DPS Law
Enforcement Academy in Austin graduating in June 1967. Their first son, Mark, was
born in 1968, while Joe was a driver's license patrolman in San Antonio. In 1970, their
second son, Bryan, was born while Joe was stationed in Odessa where he was a Texas
highway patrolman.
After being promoted to the Texas Rangers in July 1977, Joe and Linda moved to
Lubbock where he was stationed until being transferred back to San Angelo in October
1993. Joe retired from the Texas Rangers in 1998.
After his retirement, he was asked to run for Tom Green County Sheriff and won his first
election in November 2000. In May 2004, Joe suffered a massive heart attack and was
actually pronounced dead two different times but recovered to go on and be elected for a
second term in November. He was then elected to a third term in 2008, but the heart
attack had taken it's toll.
In March 2011, he stated, "For the past year, I have been having health issues as the
result of the heart attack I suffered in 2004. Those issues no longer allow me to perform
my job in the manner I demand of myself. It is time for me to step aside and the sheriff's
department to move forward." He retired on March 31.
Joe, being known as a great story teller, had been asked by many to write a book which
he did. The book entitled "Joe B. Hunt, Texas Ranger, Campfire Tales," was just recently
finished, printed and published. He wanted the proceeds from the sale of this book to go
to the Water for All International Ministry. This ministry helps residents of South
America and Africa drill fresh water wells in their villages. These wells help reduce the
waterborne illnesses and death among residents caused by unsanitary water sources.

Joe and Linda had bought a ranch in Eldorado and moved there after his retirement. He
loved ranching, hunting, fishing, the outdoors in general and looked forward to trips to
Colorado and spending time with good friends like Glyn Jameson. Joe's family was the
most important thing in his life and the traditional Hunt family Thanksgivings and
Christmases were very special to him.
Joe was a former member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church and had recently moved his
membership to Christoval Baptist Church.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, John C. and Willie Mae Hunt; his
mother-in-law and father-in-law, Annie and Emil Goetz; and his sister-in-law, Linda Sue
Smith Hunt. Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Linda; son Mark and wife Jamilyn, their
daughters, Taylor and Rylie; son Bryan and his daughter, Brittny; his sister, Carolyn and
husband James Cornelius and their family; brothers Skipper and his family and Jerry and
his family. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willard and Shirley
Goetz and their family, Donnie and Georgia Goetz and their family; many nieces,
nephews, cousins; one aunt, Mabel Boyd of Azle; and numerous very, very special
friends. Loved and remembered by the many classmates of the Class of 1963, Joe will
always be a warm spot in the heart of so many. The family will be at 3539 Judith Lane
Sunday, Oct. 6. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Johnson's
Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Glen Meadows Baptist
Church with Mack Roller and George Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Robert Ray (Bob) Wills Sr.

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Robert Ray (Bob) Wills Sr. passed away in Shannon Medical
Center in San Angelo, Texas, on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.
He was born May 14, 1945, to Ruth and Gidney Wills at St. John's Hospital in San
Angelo. Robert attended San Angelo schools and in 1963, joined the U.S. Army. He
proudly served his country for 21 years, retiring in 1984, as a
sergeant first class. Some of his duty stations were in Germany,
Thailand, Japan and Korea.
He was also a certified dental technician for over 20 years. A
single parent for many years, in 2001, Robert married the love of
his life, Gabriela (Bebe) Wills, in Cebu, Philippines.
As Robert's hearing declined, reading became an important part
of his life. On one of his trips to his wife's country, the
Philippines, he noticed that a small village elementary school did
not have a library or books for the children to practice reading in English. Upon returning
home, Robert collected, purchased and shipped over 300 books to this small village
school. Many of these children affectionately refer to him as "Daddy Bob."
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Durwood Wills of Austin,
Texas, and Paul Wills of El Paso, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife, Gabriela;
three sons, Robert R. Wills Jr. and wife Dilek of DeRidder, La., Kevin Jay Wills and wife
Erica of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Donald L. Wills of San Angelo, Texas; and two
daughters, Terrie Wills Chumchal and husband Mark of San Angelo and Clarence Anne
Bendanillo with the U.S. Air Force in Anchorage, Alaska.
He is also survived by the prides of his life, his grandchildren, Kristin Wills and Ryan
Wills of DeRidder, La., Sahara Wills of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Noah Robert
Chumchal and Benjamin David Chumchal of San Angelo, Texas. Also surviving is one
brother, Wendell D. Wills of Bella Vista, Ark.; and one sister, Helen Kennedy of San
Angelo.
Also a very important part of his family were his in-laws in the Philippines, his father and
mother-in-law, Francisco and Catalina Bendanillo; sister-in-law Florencia Zulueta and
husband Donescio; brothers-in-law Eugenio Bendanillo and wife Joy, Efren Bendanillo
and wife Lorne and Genie Bendanillo; and nine special nephews and nieces.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with
Robert's best friend of over 45 years, Keith Atwood of Midland, Texas, officiating.
Burial will be in the Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Arrangements are by
Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas.

She was born on April 14, 1944, in San Angelo to Lucius and

Tuesday, July 24, 2013, at Adams & Starks Funeral Home.
A wake service will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July
24, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 301 W. 23rd St.

24, 2013, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1011 MLK Drive.

Those left behind to cherish her memories are her beloved husband of 49 years, Oscar L.

Robert G. Boss Brown

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Robert G. "Boss" Brown, 68, of Big Lake, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at his residence in Big Lake.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, in the V.F.W. Hall Post 3261
in Big Lake, Texas, with Bro. Ray Browning officiating. Arrangements are with Robert
Massie Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Phillips, Dave Carr, Red
Collins, Rebel Dowdle, Danny Glen and Jeff Pringle.
Robert Grady Brown was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Santa Monica, Calif. Robert was raised
in San Angelo, Texas, at 5301 Fruitland Farms Road. His parents were Edward Grady
and Lillie Dale (Thompson) Brown. He had two sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Mina Ruth.
Robert was raised at Brown's Pool and was an avid swimmer. He worked as a lifeguard
each summer. Robert attended Grape Creek and Central High School. After graduation in
May 1963, he worked as a mechanic for A.H. Bradford.
Robert turned 19 on Oct. 17, 1963, and two days later, he married Barbara Pangburn on
Oct. 19, 1963. They lived in San Angelo and Ozona where he worked for General
Motors. In March 1965, Robert and Barbara moved to Big Lake where they opened a
business with Barbara's parents, Paul and Mary Pangburn.
Robert fathered three sons, Larry Dwayne, Paul Edward and Brian Sammuel. The boys
were born and raised in Big Lake. They all graduated from Reagan Co. High School.
Robert was proud of his children. Larry and Brian both served as Marines in Gulf War 1.
Paul helped his father in the shop.
In 1991, Robert and Barbara gained custody of their 5-year old grandson, Scott. Scott has
also been raised in Big Lake and graduated from Reagan Co. High School. Robert was
proud of Scott and his abilities as a mechanic.
Robert was a quiet man, a man of few words. He loved his family. He was a hard worker
and taught his sons how to make a living and do good by others. He spoiled his wife and
backed her in anything she tried to do.
Robert became ill in May 2013, and after many doctors and treatments; he left this life to
rest and have a better life with God. He will be missed by everybody that knew him.
Robert is survived by his wife of 49-1/2 years, Barbara Pangburn Brown of Big Lake;
three sons, Larry Brown and wife Roxie of San Angelo, Paul Brown and wife Missy of
Big Lake and Brian Brown and wife Christie of Mounds, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; sister Mina Fitting of Midland; his mother-in-law, Mary Pangburn
of Brownwood; and four nieces and their families.

She was born in San Angelo, Texas, on Dec. 26, 1943, to Segundo G. and Josephine
Soto. RosaLee was preceded in death by her father, Segundo G. Soto; her brother,
Richard T. Soto; and her husband, James R. Weaver.
RosaLee is survived by her mother, Josephine Tafolla Soto of
San Angelo; her son, Juan Miguel Ricardo T. Soto of San
Angelo; daughter Micaela Renee Trice of San Angelo; sisters
Carolyn Cintron of San Angelo, Gloria Armendariz of Austin,
Evelyn Fry of Mesquite; brothers Vidal Soto of San Angelo,
Segundo G. Soto of Fort Worth, Joe Soto of Wisconsin;
granddaughters Angelica Maria Soto, Jonel Lynn Guerra,
RosaLee T. Guerra, all of San Angelo; grandson Juan Miguel

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Ann Ellen Cooper, 68, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away
early Sunday, May 12, 2013.
She was born in San Angelo on Feb. 23, 1945, the daughter of Jack and Florence Cooper.
Ann attended Santa Rita Elementary School, Robert Lee Junior High School and
graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1963. She went on to receive her
bachelor's degree from the University of Texas Austin in 1967, and a master in fine arts
in weaving and fiber arts from the University of North Texas Denton in 1982.
Ann spent most of her working career as a unit manager with the Texas Department of
Human Services in Denton. She took an early retirement in 2004, and moved back to San
Angelo to be closer to her parents and to pursue her passion for art in its many forms.
She also loved gardening and caring for her many cats. She was a member of First
Christian Church and Western Hills Garden Club.
Ann is survived by her sister, Charlotte Cooper Curry; her brother-in-law, Jeffrey E.
Curry; nephew Cuchulain Cooper Curry of San Francisco, Calif.; and her many dear
Murphy cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at First Christian
Church.

Michael (Mickey) Mercer, age 68, of Gatesville passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013.
Graveside services will be at 1:00PM, Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Goldthwaite
Memorial Cemetery and Michael’s uncle, Floyd Spradley, and Dr. Michael Haynes will
be officiating.
Michael was born on October 28, 1944 in Slaton, Texas. He
served in the US Navy for four years. He was a Vietnam
veteran.
He is survived by a son, Cody Mercer of San Antonio; mother,
Obera Godwin of Gatesville; sister, Karla Reaves and husband,
Les of Gatesville; nephew, Jim Reaves of Austin; niece, Karen
Reaves of Austin; and many cousins and friends.

Norman Everett Williams

MIDLAND, Tex. — Norman Everett Williams, born Sept. 21, 1944, passed from this
life on Monday, March 25, 2013, from lymphoma, at the age of 68.
He was born to L.B. and Jane Williams in San Angelo, Texas, where he graduated from
San Angelo Central High School and Angelo State University. While in high school and
college, he played tuba and sousaphone in the band.
It was Norman's background in accounting and computers that brought him to Midland in
1996, to work for the Kent Companies. He remained with them until his retirement in
2009. Norman had many interests and hobbies over the years.
He was an amateur-radio operator and operated the MARS station while serving in the
United States Air Force. In 1967, he and his wife, Judith, began square dancing, and he
would later go on to call those dances.
Norman was a member of a dirt-bike motorcycle club and he especially loved cooking for
groups such as church functions and Christmas in Action.
Norman is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Williams of Midland; son David Williams of
Lubbock; daughter Ivee Ramos of Midland; brother Marvin and wife Cathy Williams of
Mesa, Ariz.; sister Debi and husband Jim Long of Leola, Pa.; four grandchildren, Amber
and Asia Williams, Mariah Cobb and Ky Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Fairmont Park
Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and remembrances be
made to the American Cancer Society ; Children's Home of Lubbock; and/or Christmas

Jack Albert Smith

GREELEY, Colo. — Jack Albert Smith of Evans, Colo.,
passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2012.
He was born June 2, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., to Ruth Ann
(Null) and Hugo Smith who resided in San Angelo, Texas.
Survived by his loving wife, Helen (Sandore) Smith of Evans,
Colo.; son Jason Smith of Denver, Colo.; uncle Laud Howell;
cousins Judy Cox and family, all of McKinney, Texas, and
Nancy and John Kassen of Festus, Mo.
He was well loved and will be missed by the Sandore family of Elmira, N.Y.

Mac Gregory McGowen

Mac Gregory McGowen, 64, of Bartlett, TN, retired banking manager and U.S.
Army veteran, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in Memphis, Tenn., after
a year-long battle with cancer.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 11 from 5
until service time at 7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home,
Germantown Parkway Chapel-Bartlett.
Mac was born in San Angelo on Aug. 24, 1945, to Greg
and Marie McGowen.
Mac attended school in San Angelo, graduating from
Central High School in 1963. After a stint in the U.S. Army,
including a tour of Korea, Mac returned to San Angelo and
graduated from Angelo State University.
Mac enjoyed a long career with various companies in the
finance industry. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved
golf, fishing, and working in his yard.
Mac is survived by his wife, Tonia of Memphis; daughter
Traci Underwood and her husband, Tim, of Houston; stepson Taylor Dodson of
Memphis; grandchildren Gus and Joleigh Underwood of Houston; mother, Marie
McGowen of San Angelo; brothers, Randy McGowen and his wife, Pam, and
Kelly McGowen and his wife, Cynthia, all of San Angelo; and numerous nieces,
nephews and friends. Mac was preceded in death by his father, Greg McGowen.
Mac was a gregarious and fun-loving man who will be sorely missed by all of his
family and friends.
His San Angelo family would like to extend their gratitude to Tonia and her family
in Memphis for their long and loving role as caretakers to Mac in his battle with
cancer.

MELBA JEAN YOUNG

SAN ANGELO - Melba Jean Young, 63, passed peacefully from
this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Feb.
24, 2009. She was met at Heaven's gate by her sons Jerry and
Kevin, who have been waiting lovingly to welcome Mom Home.
Melba was born on May 22, 1945, In Lamesa, Texas, to Cecil
and Lillian Field. She grew up in San Angelo and married
Kenneth Young on March 15, 1963.
She worked in retail sales and owned and operated her own
women's clothing store. She was a friend to all who were lucky
enough to meet her and she was a fine example of a Christian woman. Her love of God
was demonstrated in many ways through the love and care she gave to others. She was
a genuine lady, always exhibiting class and style. Our wife, mother, sister, and "MeMaw"
will be greatly missed. Our hearts are broken but they are also full of wonderful
memories we will hold tightly to forever.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lillian Field; a brother, Elvin
Field; and two of her precious sons, Jerald Ray young on March 10, 1984, and Kevin
Harold Young on June 18, 1985.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Young of San Angelo; her son, Jeffrey Don
Young and his wife Terri of Wall; her brother, Doug Field; and numerous brothers-in-law,
sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the four lights of her life, her
beautiful grandchildren Erin Ashley Young, Jake Kendon Young, Tucker Will Young, and
Luke Cahill Young.
Services will be Friday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at Southgate Church of Christ under the
direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Family will
receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, at Johnson's Funeral
Home.
Pallbearers will be Andy Daniel, Frank Carter, Kenneth Gartman, Carey Sartain, David
Speiker and Mark Daniel. The family wishes to thank Wes Wells and the entire staff of
Sagecrest for their loving care of Melba over the past years.

Karen Mackey Webb

Karen Mackey Webb, 63, of 1205 Petunia Lane, Pflugerville, homemaker,
formerly of San Angelo, died Thursday.
Karen was born February 15, 1945 in Ballinger, Texas. She departed this
life to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on August 21, 2008, following her
battle with breast cancer.
Her husband, Rick Webb of the home; Hunter and Teri Webb of Amarillo, TX; Damon Webb,
currently in Iraq; Jessica Webb and granddaughter, Whitney Webb of Hubert, NC, survive her.
Her eldest son, John D. Webb preceded her in death. Other survivors include her sister, Particia
Hill of Concord, CA, her brother, John Mackey of Snyder, TX, and a host of friends across
Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at Pflugerville Community Church at 2:30 p.m.on
Sunday, August 24, 2008. Burial will be private. Arrangements by All Faiths, north location.

Adam was born on January 22, 1945 in Wink, Texas to Hilario and
Antonia (Flores) Gonzalez.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He held a Masters in Languages from Texas Tech University. Adam was the Dean of Resources
and Economic Development at Brookhaven Community College. He was a wonderful educator,
friend, and great listener.
Adam was a loving and caring individual who enjoyed telling jokes and enlightening others. He
was preceded in death by his father, Hilario Gonzalez and sister, Rachel Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 8 years, Lupe Solis; daughter, Ann-Marie and husband Jimmy
Thompson, son, Eric Gonzalez; grandchildren, Cole Thompson and Adam Gonzalez; mother,
Antonia Gonzalez; brothers and sisters, Oscar Gonzalez, Sammy Gonzalez and wife, Linda, Tony

DAN CURTIS PETTY

SAN ANGELO — Dan Curtis Petty was born on Easter Sunday,
April 1, 1945, to Iva Teague and A.C. Petty in Sweetwater, Texas.
He died suddenly at his home in Paint Rock on Tuesday evening.
Dan graduated from Central High School in 1964 and joined the
U.S. Navy, serving most of his time off the shore of Vietnam. In
1968, Dan married Aubrey Ann Knight. He owned and operated
Double D Muffler for 25 years. Dan and Aubrey lived in San Angelo
and Veribest before moving to Paint Rock 17 years ago, where they
finished raising their children,
Ashley, Collin and Courtney D’Ann. While Ashley and Courtney
were in grade school at Veribest and later junior high and high school in Paint Rock, Dan
never missed one of their school activities or sports events. Everyone knew Dan hated
football — that was, until Ashley played, and suddenly Dan was a six-man expert. In
their younger days, Dan and Aubrey loved drag racing. They spent many Saturday nights
and Sunday afternoons at the Wall Drag Strip.
When Ashley and Courtney were born, the race cars turned to a motor home, and the
family spent their time camping, deer hunting and fishing. They shared great times at
Lake Brownwood with Dan’s brother and family, Alton, Helen, Penny and Cody. After
Ashley and Courtney left home, Dan decided he wanted to play farmer. He truly enjoyed
farm sales and dealing farm equipment. He could not wait to retire so he could teach his
only granddaughter, Collyn, to drive his tractors. He and neighbor Sidney Allen had even
planned the seat they would build for her to ride in. Dan was preceded in death by parents
Iva and A.C. Petty; in-laws Darky and Anna Knight; and a brother, Clarence Petty.
Dan is survived by wife Aubrey; children Ashley and wife Melissa Petty of San Angelo,
and Courtney and husband Shane Daniels of Veribest; the apple of her Paw paw’s eye,
granddaughter Collyn Paige Daniels; brothers Alton and wife Helen of Lake Brownwood,
James and wife Carolyn of Red Oak, and Charles and wife Joyce of Caldwell; special
niece Penny Winthorn of Crawford; nephew Cody Petty of Bangs; and numerous nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Sidney Allen, Mike Lochman, John Hines,
Andy Allen, Charles Becker, Burt Rosser, Jerry Hall, John Hruska, Willie Siler, Virgil
Fowler, Mike Sturm, Mike Davis, Robert Harris and Ralph Wilberg.

DONNA “TAYLOR” PAVLICEK

SAN ANGELO — Donna Taylor Pavlicek was born in Columbus, Ohio, on May 20, 1945, the
middle of three daughters of Jim and Dorothy Taylor.
Donna went to parochial school until the seventh grade, when the Taylor
family moved to San Angelo as a transfer from Jim’s job with Armour
and Company. Until the family could move into their new home, all five
and their cat lived at the Cactus Hotel.
Donna met the “Elvis” of her life and began the family that would later
become the Bud Pavliceks off Southland Boulevard.
Bud owned Pavlicek Construction Company and worked outside,
enjoying the elements of West Texas.
In the early years of their 45-year marriage, Donna was wife and
mother, and as the girls started school, so did she. She received a master’s degree from Angelo
State University. She began her teaching career at Lincoln Junior High School in 1971 and later
at Lee Junior High School.
She was very dedicated to her kids. In 1979, she began a new chapter in her life as a programmer
for GTE Data Services. She worked for GTE and Verizon before retiring as a manager in 2003. T
he number one love of Donna’s life was her family. She enjoyed cooking, camping, hunting and
fishing.
Donna lost her struggle with lung disease on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007.
The previous evening, the entire family gathered and everyone was able to enjoy what came to be
their last visit with Nannie. Donna’s departure will leave thoughts and memories for her husband,
Eugene “Bud” Pavlicek Jr.; daughter Tammy McCarty, husband Norris and sons Mitch and Matt;
and look-alike daughter Jacque Wells and husband Gary; and grandson Gary Lane Wells Jr. and
wife Hanna. She is also survived by two sisters, Sandy Anderson and Patricia Taylor.
Donna’s wishes were to have donations made to the SPCA so that “someone can take care of the
little critters.”
A celebration of Donna’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Luke United Methodist
Church, with graveside service following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo and her caregivers, Monica, Jessica,
Teresa, Lorraine and Lorrie. Special thanks go to Dr. Ty Hughston and the entire 4 North staff at
Shannon Hospital. Also, much gratitude to Mike Boyd and the Air-Med One staff, Laurie and
Sue-Ann for getting her home last November.

David was born Jan. 31, 1945, in Edmonton, Canada, the son of
Joseph Richard Dishinger and Doris Crum Dishinger of Indiana. He
moved to Texas at the age of 14 and lived in Houston, Austin and
San Angelo, where he graduated from San Angelo Central High
School. Upon completion of graduation in 1963, he attended Angelo State University and
Sul Ross University.
David served as a medical assistant in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. He received
the National Defense Service Medal. In 1972, he attended the Dallas Institute of
Mortuary Science, later working at Mission Park and Greenwood Funeral Homes.
David worked for Ray Crowder and the Texas Department of Human Services, where
he later retired and became a self-employed realtor.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Crum Dishinger. Survivors include
his wife of 26 years, Gwen Dishinger; father J.R. Dishinger of San Angelo; sisters-in-law
Diana Oliveira and husband Tony of Fort Worth, Lynette and Lindsey Birdsong of Tyler,
and Mary King of Denver; and nieces and nephew Tony Oliveira, Nichole Birdsong and
Erin Birdsong.

J. C. Roach Jr., was suddenly taken from this life in an automobile accident on
Jan. 13, 2006. Memorial services were held at Chapel of the Hills Baptist

Born Dec. 13, 1944, in San Angelo, to J.C. and Gussie Roach, he was a
graduate of Angelo State Uni-yersity and worked in the construction business
for Randy Smith Construction Company. He served in the United States Army
during the Vietnam War and was a Green Beret. He received the Bronze Star
and letters of commendation from the president of the United States for his
bravery in the line of duty.

SAN MARCOS — Sharon Turn Hendrix, 60, of San Marcos, Texas,
passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. She
was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
Sharon was born in Hastings, a suburb of Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 25,
1945, to Ben G.W. and Francis LaNelle Swindle Turn.
Sharon was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, trumpet and
French horn, and was also a talented twirler in the San Angelo Central
High School Band.
After graduation, Sharon married her high school sweetheart, Paul, in
San Angelo, Texas. Sharon worked as a telephone operator and in
various other positions for GTE until 1985, when she and Paul moved their family to San Marcos
and where she became a full-time homemaker. Even as a busy housewife, Sharon found time to
work from time to time as an administrative assistant at San Marcos Telephone Company and at
CHA Systems in Dallas, Texas. Sharon loved helping others and worked as a volunteer
committee member and treasurer of Boy Scout Troop #112 of San Marcos.
The term “give up” was not in her vocabulary. There was not a challenge too great as far as she
was concerned. Nothing was impossible, and she lived her life to the fullest. Sharon loved life —
always the optimist, with a great sense of humor.
Sharon was a member of the First Christian Church of San Marcos and was preceded in death by
her father and husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Hendrix of San Marcos; two sons, Paul G. Hendrix Jr. of
The Woodlands and Jett David Hendrix of San Marcos; granddaughter Kelsey Lynn Hendrix of
San Marcos; mother Francis LaNelle of San Angelo; brother Ben Gerald Wesley Turn II and wife
Patsy of San Angelo; sister Belinda G. Willberg of San Angelo; numerous nieces and nephews;
and a host of friends.
Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Pennington Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12, at the First Christian Church of San
Marcos, with the Rev. James A. McKibbin officiating. Interment will follow in the San Marcos

Born in Tom Green County, Texas, to the late James A. and Pauline Fox Groves, she was
an employee of George Morosani Industrial Realtor.
Surviving are her husband, Larry James Clontz of Asheville, N.C.; one son, Robert James
Clontz of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Wendy Clontz Hamilton and husband Mark
of Jackson, Ohio; two grandchildren, Hunter and Megan Hamilton of Jackson, Ohio;

LAS VEGAS – Troy W. “Dubbie” Patterson Jr., 59, passed away Saturday, April 10,
2004, in Nathan Adelson Hospice-East.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1944, in San Angelo, Texas. He was a casino dealer and
veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Troy was also a member
of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Patterson, daughter Laura L. Patterson-Dimitt, and
son Michael R. Patterson, all of Las Vegas; mother Lellah L. Patterson-Turn, and sister
Patricia Whitacre, both of Odessa, Texas; and one grandchild.

Aaron S. Goldberg, 58, an attorney and longtime resident of San Angelo, passed away
Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004.
Aaron was a 1963 graduate of San Angelo Central High School. He also graduated from
the University of Texas and Texas Tech University. He was a devoted son and brother,
Divemaster rated scuba diver, swimmer, cyclist, chef, wine enthusiast, hunter, Eagle
Scout and a friend above all others.
Aaron is survived by his father, Walter Goldberg; his brothers and their families, Brian
and Sue of Okemos, Mich., and Alan and Marilyn of Ardsley, N.Y.

KAREN DUBOSE SIMS
Karen DuBose Sims, 58 after a long and courageous struggle with cancer, went to be
with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003
She was born May 20, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas, the first of three childred blessed to
the late Dr. Waymon G. DuBose and Mrs. Francine Mann DuBose.
She Graduated in 1963 from San Angelo Central High School, attended classes at Angelo
State University and went on to graduate from San Angelo Business College. Her
profession al career included many years in the insurance industry with Mutual of Omaha
and later with the Sumter Insurance Agency. Then in 1983, she joined Rainaire Products
of Carolina in Sumter, S.C. as their finance manager. She was extremely committed to
Rainaire and remained there for 17 years through changes in ownership and eventually
the dissolution of the company. Karen returned home to San Angelo in 2000 to be with
her family and spent a short time working with the San Angelo accounting firm of
Armstrong-Backus before her health required her to retire.
In addition to her rich professional life, Karen pursued many other interests. Early in her
life, she was a Rainbow Girl and later she became very active in the Business and
Professional Women’s Club and SAFE Federal Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee.
Karen married Mr. Robert E. Sims, of Sumter, S.C. on Oct. 26, 1984, and was widowed
by his passing in July 2002.
She is survived by her loving son, Jason M. DuBoxe and his fiancée, Tracy M. Dellinger,
both of Sumter, S.C.; her mother, Mrs. Francine DuBose of San Angelo; her brother, Mr.
Waymon G. DuBose Jr, of Dallas; her sister, Dian Cook of San Angelo; her nephew,
William Clay Collier and wife, Jennifer J. Collier, also of San Angelo; and her niece,
Christine Francie DuBose of Front Royal, Va. Karen was not only blessed by a loving
family bu also by many, many, friends. A few of these are lifelong friends who will
mourn her passing just as family does.
Karen was an active member and elder of St. Mark Presbyterian Church in San Angelo.
Memorial service will be held there at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, with the Rev. James C.
Anderson officiating. In place of flowers, it was Karen’s wish that memorials be made to
either theSt. Mark Presbyterian Building Fund or Hospice of San Angelo.

nursing team, Dr. Kenneth Rose at Shannon Clinic and to Hospice of San Angelo,

went beyond the call.
NANCY ELLETT ZIMMERMAN
On Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, the Lord called Nancy Ellett Zimmerman and released her
from her tired and weak body to dance among the angels in Heaven.
She was born on Dec. 17, 1944, to Francine and Alan Ellett. She married Curtis
Zimmerman on June 14, 1975, in Dallas. She worked many years as a nurse in this area.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis: daughters, Cristie Brown and husband, Danny,
and Joeye Long and husband, Scott: sister, Ann Walker and husband, Norman, of
Cleburne: grandchildren, Kellsey, Baylie, Logan and Jordan: brothers-in-law, Neal
Zimmerman of Whitehouse, Texas and Jerry Zimmerman of San Angelo; nephew, Dalan
Walker and wife, Kristie, of Alvarado; numerous aunts and uncles and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Alan Ellett; and her cousin, Michael
Eckerman.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel
with Brother Paul Shero, pastor of Southgate Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will
follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Norman Walker, Neal Zimmerman, Tommy King, Al Brown, Harold
Davidson and Lance Mathis. Honorary pallbearer will be Dalan Walker.
Anyone who knew her loved her beautiful smile and soothing words. She was like a
mother to everyone she met and knew no strangers. She will be missed every day, but we
know that she is at peace, and the Heavens are rejoicing.

Gary Eisenbach, formerly of San Angelo, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at his residence in
Austin, Texas.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1945, in San Angelo to Curtis and Willie Eisenbach.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Memorial service will be at 10a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Portis
Ribble will officiate.
Gary was born in San Angelo and, after graduating from Angelo State University, he
moved to Austin and attended The University of Texas. His Field of expertise was
foreign languages, and he worked in the university library for many years in translation.
He also worked as an accountant for the IRS. Recently he had been working with Job
Force, placing people on job assignments.
Gary had been a diabetic since the age of five. His hobbies included camping and hiking.
One of his favorite places was in the Fort Davis Mountains. Gary also loved music,
painting and would often send hand-painted Christmas cards to relatives.
Survivors include one sister, Cindy Kirby and her husband, Johnny Kirby, of San Angelo;
one niece, Michelle Kolpak and one great-niece, Rachel Kolpak, both of Atlanta, Ga.;
and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
