Perinteisissä
käsityötavoissa
piilee viisaus. Tuon viisauden halusin yhdistää nykyajan elämän
vaatimuksiin. Perustin vuonna
2003 Pisa Design -yritykseni, joka
valmistaa tekstiilejä korkealaatuisesta pellavasta sekä kierrätysmateriaaleista.
Pisa Designin muotokieli on moderni, mutta perinteiden kunnioitus näkyy läpi koko kokoelman muotoilussa, designissa ja
materiaaleissa. Yksityiskohtiin ja
käytännöllisyyteen kiinnitetään
erityistä huomiota.
There is wisdom hidden beneath traditional crafting methods. I wanted to
combine that wisdom with the demands of a
modern life. In 2003, I founded my company,
Pisa Design, which manufactures home
textiles from high-quality linen and recycled
materials.
Pisa Design speaks a modern design
language, but respect for traditions is evident
in the styling, design and materials of the
collection. Particular attention is given to
details and practicality.

The colour theme highlights the surrounding
marine environment of Kalajoki, with its
unique beaches and forests with intensive and
beautiful colours. I design all products myself,
and they are manufactured in Finland and
in the Baltic countries, in a sustainable way,
using high-quality and safe materials.
Värimaailmassa tulee esiin ympäröivä Kalajoen meriluonto,
jonka ainutlaatuiset rannat ja
metsät ovat väreiltään intensiivisiä ja kauniita. Suunnittelen
kaikki tuotteet itse, ja ne valmistetaan kestävällä tavalla korkealaatuisista materiaaleista Suomessa ja Baltian maissa.
Minulta kysytään usein, mitä Pisa
yrityksen nimessä tarkoittaa.

Pisa Fabric on käsinkudottu kierrätetystä videonauhasta, pellavasta ja puuvillasta. Vanhat elokuvat Casablancasta Vertigoon
kudotaan kangaspuissa kokonaan uudeksi kertomukseksi.
Tuloksena on kestävä, kevyt ja
hohtava materiaali, jolla on
tarina. Pisa Fabricista valmistuvat käsilaukut, x-tuolit, ruokailutabletit ja monet muut käyttötekstiilit.
Pisa Fabric –
Linen and
Videotapes
Unique things are created from surprising
combinations. Whether we are talking about
human relationships, spices or materials;
sometimes, these are more than just the sum
of their parts. This happened with Pisa Fabric,
too.
Pisa Fabric is hand-woven from recycled
videotapes, linen and cotton. Old movies,
from Casablanca to Vertigo, are woven on a
loom into new stories. The result is a durable,
light and sparkling material with a story. Pisa
Fabric is used for making handbags, x-stools,
placemats and many other practical textiles.

Moneypockets
from Fish Leather
Fish leather requires several work
phases, but the end result is worth all the
trouble. The soft, unique surface is inviting to
the touch. Fish leather is a by-product of fish
factories, and using it is truly an ecologically
friendly act; without any eager crafters, this
spectacular material would be thrown out.
In Pisa Design, fish leather is used to make
popular bags and pouches, completely by
hand.

The products are manufactured from
the lighter Pisa linen material, which is
a high-quality material with a beautiful silky
finish. The material dries quickly, which makes
the products ideal for travelling. It is nice to
put the sauna robe on, to cool down and
to spend good time. The same material is
also used for a slightly longer seat cover, a
seat cushion and bags, which are great for
transporting these accessories when you’re
visiting other people’s saunas.

One side of these linen terry cloths
is made from softer cotton linen, and the
other side from linen terry. The linen terry
side gently exfoliates the skin, and invigorates

Case Range and
Trays
Pisa Fabric cases function like baskets
containing everyday small items, cosmetics,
or craft equipment. These versatile cases
are available in two sizes and in four different
colours. The cases can be washed, and stored
flat when not in use. They can be adaptedwell to suit your purposes, and the width of
the base can be adjusted by folding from
the corner, or by decreasing. The products
are delivered flat, so that they are light and
do not take up much space.
The trays have been designed for serving,
grouping and storing. There is a zip on the
bottom of the trays, with a wooden reinforcement behind it. If the reinforcement is
removed, the tray can be washed in water.

Table Runners
The narrow table runner, woven in a
traditional pattern on a loom, was Pisa
Design’s first product. It is still popular.
You can use the table runner and placemats
even on narrower dining tables, with the
table setting looking beautiful and spacious.
You can place serving dishes on top of the
table runner, and the thickness of the cloth
will protect the surface of the table. The wide
version from the same series would be suitable for wider tables. The wide table runner can also be used sideways on the table.
The runner is beautiful on its own, and also
combined with Pisa Design’s linen tablecloth.

Pisa Fabric products are manufactured from
recycled videotapes, which are combined
with natural materials. Fabrics are cut so that
there is as little waste as possible, and the little
waste that is created is used up in prototypes

Design is a by-product of the food industry,
which would otherwise be discarded.
All work phases have been planned so that
they would put the least amount of strain on

Pellavan tarina
Pellava on maailman vanhimpia
ja tärkeimpiä viljelyskasveja.
Arkeologiset löydöt Georgiasta
osoittavat, että villinä kasvavaa
pellavaa oli värjätty ja käytetty
vaatteina jo 36 000 vuotta sitten.
Myöhemmältä kivikaudelta on todisteita pellavan suunnitelmallisesta viljelystä. Egyptissä faaraoiden aikaan pellavan tuotanto sai
teolliset mittasuhteet.
Vuosituhansia hyvässä kunnossa
säilyneet pellavakangaslöydöt
kertovat myös siitä, miten erikoisen hyvin pellava kestää ajan
hammasta. Näiden vuosituhansien ajan tästä monikäyttöisestä
kasvista on valmistettu vaatteita,
sen siemeniä on käytetty lääkinnällisiin tarkoituksiin ja ravinnoksi. Pellavan kuituja on myös
käytetty eristeenä ja pellavaöljymaaleilla on käsitelty puupintoja.
Pellavakankaan hyviin ominaisuuksiin kuuluu antibakteerisuus,
minkä takia sitä on käytetty myös

Flax is one of the world’s oldest and most
important crops. Archaeological finds from
Georgia show that wild flax was dyed and used
for clothing already 36 000 years ago. There is
proof from the Later Stone Age that flax has
been grown systematically. In Egypt, during
the time of pharaohs, the production of linen
acquired industrial proportions.
Linen fabric finds that have remained in good
condition for millennia are also an indicator
of how well linen can stand the test of time.
Throughout thousands of years, this versatile
plant has been used for making clothes, its
seeds have been used for medicinal purposes
and nutrition. Flax fibres have also been used
for insulation, and flax oil paint has been used
for treating wooden surfaces.
One of the good characteristics of linen is its
antibacterial nature, which is why it has also
been used for hospital textiles. It is a durable
fabric with good absorbency, it is dirt-repellent,
and it has a beautiful shine. That is why linen
has always been a fabric treasured by common
people and kings alike.

Pellavan
hoito-ohjeet
Pese pellava pellavan kanssa
väljässä vedessä erillään muusta
pyykistä. Pesu 40 asteessa riittää,
koska pellava on luonnostaan
antibakteerinen. Linkoa pellavatekstiilit kevyesti (400-800 kierrosta). Oio saumat huolellisesti muotoonsa ja ripusta kuivumaan.
Halutessasi voit silittää pellavatekstiilit 200 asteessa tai mankeloida pellavaiset pöytäliinat ja
laudeliinat. Mankelointi antaa liinalle kauniin kiillon. Pesukertojen
myötä pellavatekstiilit pehmenevät ja niiden imukyky kasvaa. Pellava kutistuu maksimissaan 5-7%
ensimmäisillä pesukerroilla.
Wash the linen with other linen,
separately from other laundry. Washing at 40
degrees is sufficient, because linen is naturally
antibacterial. You can centrifuge linen textiles
gently (400-800 spins). Smooth out the seams
carefully to shape, and hang to dry.
If you wish, you can iron linen textiles at 200
degrees, or mangle linen tablecloths and seat
covers. Mangling will give a beautiful shine to
linen cloths. With each washing, linen textiles
will soften, and their absorbency will increase.
Linen will shrink 5-7% at most during the first
wash times.

Tahrat voi poistaa pyyhkimällä
kostealla liinalla. Tarvittaessa
pese tuote käsin. Käytä neutraalia pesuainetta, ei valkaisuainetta. Pese runsaassa pesuvedessä.
Kuivausrumpu ei sovellu tuotteille. Silitys 150 asteessa.
Pidätämme oikeuden mittamuutoksiin +/– 2 cm. Kaikki Pisa Design -tuotteet kutistuvat pesussa
noin 5-7%. Tuotteet valmistetaan
aidoista luonnon materiaaleista
näin ollen luonnonmateriaaleille
ominaisia materiaalin vaihtumia

The Pisa Fabric products and all cover
textiles are hand-woven. Stains can be
removed by wiping with a damp cloth. If
necessary, wash the product by hand. Use a
neutral detergent, no bleach. Wash in plenty
of water. The products should not be put in
the dryer. Iron at 150 degrees.
We reserve the right for the products
to vary +/– 2 cm in dimension. All Pisa
Design products will shrink in the wash by
about 5-7%. The products are manufactured
from genuine natural materials; therefore,
material variations characteristic of natural
materials can occur in the products. That is
typical to our products, and a telltale sign of
their genuineness.
