government funding.
“Michigan State University welcomes the very positive comments
offered today by Energy Secretary Steven Chu,” said spokesman

FRIB forward.”
Concerns were raised in January when Chu said funding for the
project was uncertain in tough economic times.

lab will use intense beams of rare isotopes for basic research that

could lead to applications in medicine and advanced technologies
ranging from unlocking the secrets of the universe to cancer
treatments. A similar facility is under construction in France and the
U.S. is a partner in the French reactor.
Today Chu said the Michigan State project is “pushing ahead,” but

The project is expected to create about 5,700 construction jobs and
then sustain 400 permanent jobs while increasing Michigan’s profile
