The Register of Deeds Office records documents
pertaining to real estate property such as deeds,
mortgages, liens, lis pendens, state tax liens, federal tax

The Macomb County Clerk is designated as the Clerk
of the Macomb County Circuit Court and assists in the
Court with its many functions. The Circuit Court section
of the Clerk’s Office handles the filing of new civil,
domestic, and criminal cases and maintains all of the
existing case files for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.
All documents filed with the court are put on the
computer system daily. Files may be accessed by the
public at the counter of the County Clerk Circuit Court
section File Room and case information can be retrieved
at: www.macombgov.org/pa.

Department.
The Elections Department is responsible for overseeing
the printing and distribution of election ballots and
conducting national, state, and county elections. The
canvass of votes in state, county, most school districts,
and some city and township elections is under the
jurisdiction of the County Clerk. The County Clerk also
administers the Michigan Campaign Finance Act for
candidates, PAC’s and ballot question committees.
U.S. citizens that will be at least 18 by Election Day can
register to vote.

The County Clerk oversees the operation of the Jury
Room for the Macomb County Circuit and Probate
Courts. A person is randomly selected according to the
process set forth in state law to serve as a juror because
they are a Macomb County resident with a driver’s
license or an identification card issued by the State of
Michigan.

Macomb County military discharge records are not
available for viewing, but filed records may be obtained
by the discharged military person or beneficiaries with
proof of death and evidence of relationship.
Upon filing the military discharge papers with the
Clerk’s Office, veterans have the option of purchasing
a veteran photo ID card to be used to qualify for
discounts at participating retailers. The cost is $10 and
photo ID is required.

The Civil Service Commission was established by the
electorate of Macomb County on November 8, 1966.
This Commission oversees the Civil Service System for
the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. The Civil Service
System employs promotes and disciplines employees
pursuant to Act Number 298 of the Public Acts of 1966.
Appointments, employment and promotions are based
on the examination and investigation of all Civil Service
officers and personnel in regards to merit, efficiency
and fitness. In addition, the Commission regulates the
transfer, reinstatement, suspension and discharge of
officers and provides for referendums.

$30 application fee for non-Michigan residents
• At least one applicant must live in Macomb County.
If both applicants reside out-of-state, marriage
must be taking place in Macomb County.
• Information neeeded for both parties includes: full
name, age, date of birth, city and state of birth,
social security number, number of times previously
married, father’s full name, mother’s full maiden
name and birthplace of both parents.
• Applicants under 18 must appear with a parent or
guardian, both must present photo ID and applicant
must present birth record.
There is a 3-day waiting period on marriage licenses.
