13 Eerie
Logline: We Prey for You.
Short Synopsis: Six forensic undergraduate students are marooned on a remote
island during an overnight field testing project for a university forensic class when
they come face-to-face with creature surely resurrected from the dead and raging
through the forest in hot pursuit, a drama reminiscent of The Crazies, Predator
and 28 Days Later.
ABOUT 13 EERIE
An abandoned wild animal park in the central Canadian prairie province of
Saskatchewan was the unlikely host to a motley crew of criminally-minded
zombies when Kevin DeWalt, Roger Christian and Don Carmody selected the
site to film their epic zombie thriller 13 Eerie late in October 2011.
The last day of shooting marked a memorable Halloween for the cast and crew,
when the final scenes concluded production in a veritable ghost town in the cover
of night.
The zombie genre has enjoyed unprecedented popularity with mainstream
audiences thanks to the success of films like Dawn of the Dead and Frank
Darabont’s runaway hit television series The Walking Dead.
But 13 Eerie is a fresh take on a genre that’s literally decomposing.
This epic battle of the undead follows the story of six ambitious forensic
undergraduate students who find themselves marooned on a remote island
during a university field project.
Not surprisingly, the troop finds themselves ill-prepared for a night in the wilds of
the former site of the Eerie Straight Penitentiary.
Unbeknownst to the group, the site was formerly used as an illegal biological
testing ground for life-term criminals left for dead. But they aren’t. They’re
undead.
What ensues is as captivating as it is terrifying. This fast-paced, action-filled
zombie flick defies audience expectations.
And, while you may have seen a zombie movie before, you haven’t seen
zombies quite like this.
These zombies are mean. And they’re ruthless.
The living cast features Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) in the role of Megan
and Michael Shanks (Stargate, Burn Notice, Smallville) in the role of Professor
Tomkins. Brendan Fletcher (The Pacific, Freddy vs Jason) is cast as Josh and
Nick Moran (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Lock Stock and Two Smoking
Barrels) plays the ne’er do well Larry.
Brendan Fehr (Bones, CSI: Miami) puts his CSI forensic skills to use as Daniel –
an undergraduate criminal sciences student.
The zombies themselves are a virtually unrecognizable version of their former
selves and were played with frightening accuracy by a trio of locally-sourced
talent that include Jason Truong, Shannon Jardine and Ryland Alexander.
These aren’t your typical reanimated corpses.
Under the direction of self-taught special effects make-up expert Emersen Ziffle,
the trio of zombies affectionately known to the shooting crew as Tattoo Zombie
(Ryland Alexander), Thug Zombie (Jason Truong) and Skinhead Zombie
(Shannon Jardine) come to life in an unforgettable fashion.
The film is the feature length debut for director Lowell Dean, a self-professed
zombie aficionado and was written by Christian Piers Betley, whose thriller Dark
Hearts is currently in post-production.
The film is an Ontario/Saskatchewan interprovincial co-production produced by
Don Carmody Productions and Minds Eye Entertainment.
Kevin Dewalt (The Tall Man, Faces in the Crowd), Don Carmody (Chicago, Silent
Hill, Resident Evil) and Mark Montague (The Tall Man, Faces in the Crowd)
produced. Roger Christian (Bandido, Underworld) is an executive producer.
The film was produced with the financial assistance of Telefilm Canada, the
Saskatchewan Film Employment Tax Credit, Ontario Productions Services Tax
Credit, and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. The Canadian
and International distribution rights are held by Entertainment One Films Canada.
Now, let us tell you a bit about the real people behind the story.
THE PURSUED
Katharine Isabelle – MEGAN

DaVinci’s Inquest, Smallville and Supernatural followed. American audiences
began to take notice of Isabelle after her performance in the teen thriller,
