PREFACE This thesis is submitted for a PhD degree at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. The PhD project was carried out at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen from April 2012 until August 2016 under the supervision of Associate Professor Lesli Hingstrup Larsen. MSc, PhD and Professor Arne Astrup, MD, PhD. The work was centered on a randomized, controlled crossover trial and three completed human intervention trials. The thesis is structured as a critical review on the role of Angiopoietin-like protein 4 in obesity and obesity-related diseases intended for submission to an international peer-reviewed journal. The review has a focus on the potential for dietary modulation in humans and is based on the available literature along with results from the four intervention trials included in the three papers. The following papers are included in the thesis: Paper I. The Role of the Angiopoietin-like Protein 4 in obesity – A randomized controlled trial.
