Share The new evaluation tool includes more than 90 Email performance measures that stem from SUNY’s strategic plan, the Power of SUNY, which was released in April 2010. Areas that are being measured range from student/faculty ratios and the diversity of the student population to energy Print A AA conservation, invention disclosures and entrepreneurial support of New York business and industry. Report highlights These are some of the highlights of SUNY’s first report card, which establishes a baseline using 2008-09 data and will be updated regularly to measure success: » Student-faculty ratio: 15.6 to 1 at state-operated campuses, 20.5 to 1 at community colleges. » Graduates with degrees in science, technology, ty engineering or math (STEM): 9,940. » Number of faculty and students participating in sponsored grants: 9,210. » SUNY’s annual purchasing power: $2.85 billion. » Jobs supported by SUNY research: 5,360. » Economic impact of international research activities: $42.5 million. SUNY has roughly 88,000 faculty and 465,000 students. Two charged after drug raid SUNY releases report card for programs, goals | Press & Sun-Bulletin | pressconnects.com “We want the public to know where we succeed and where we may fall short,” she said in a statement. “It’s a level of accountability that Corning East Prom 2011 many would consider a gamble, but the risks are outweighed by the opportunity to present all New Yorkers with SUNY’s advancement and our impact on the economic revitalization of New York State.” This is where SUNY stands on some of its goals and initiatives in some critical areas, including: » Diversity and creating greater access to higher education: In 2008, campuses received 39,000 applications from historically under-represented populations out of a system-wide total of 143,000. There are a number of measures that the report card describes as works in progress, such as the number of graduates employed in New York, their median income, debt upon graduation, the time it takes students to find jobs after graduating and diversity content in the curriculum and courses. College Board President Gaston Caperton said in a statement said the report card will give students and families “an unprecedented window into the quality and character of SUNY schools” and advances SUNY’s reputation as a national leader on education policy. “When it comes to education, accountability has been passed around like a hot potato for too many years,” he said. “Today, SUNY, one of the largest university systems in the country, has taken a major step towards ensuring that our schools are serving our students.” The report card will help SUNY and others know how it is doing on one of its key missions — helping revitalize New York’s economy — “and thereby help propel SUNY to become New York’s most important economic development engine,” said Brian McMahon, executive director of the state Economic Development Council.
