3 - 7 August, Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival
Guth Gafa is Ireland’s only independent documentary film festival. This year’s festival
is running from 3 - 7 August and is their 10th festival throughout the years.
The festival focuses on showing the latest award-winning Irish and International
documentary films and promoting the art of great story-telling. During the five days of
this year’s festival, you will find several Nordic entries. They are all listed in this newsletter. For a

4 August - Detained / Irish Premier
Detained is an absorbing observation from within a Swedish immigration detention
centre for rejected asylum seekers. The film follows detainees and staff over the
course of a summer. A mother separated from her children faces deportation, a
young man waits for his life to begin, and staff members struggle with the
impersonal bureaucracy required of their job.
With great sensibility to its characters and environment, Detained depicts the silent psychological
horror faced by those held in modern detention centres and questions this crucial, global

5 August - Arctic Superstar / Irish Premier
The Sami rapper Nils Rune Utsi, better known as Slincraze, lives with his mother in
the tiny hamlet of Masi on the Norwegian arctic tundra. Nils Rune dreams of being
able to make a living from making music – and maybe even becoming world
famous. The only problem is that there are only 20,000 people in the world who

6 August - Dugma - The Button / Irish Premier
‘Dugma - The Button’ is made by Paul Salahadin Refsdal, a Norwegian
journalist that went to Afghanistan to report on the Mujahedin fighting Soviet
Union, after he left the army in 1984. He tells the story of a group of al-Qaida
suicide bombers waiting for their turn. The men soon discover that pushing the
button is not as easy as they thought. For more information, click here.

6 August - Good things await / Irish Premier
The Danish documentary GOOD THINGS AWAIT will have its premiere in
Ireland when it will be screened on Saturday the 6th of August at 11.30am.
The film is about Niels Stokholm, one of the last idealistic farmers in
Denmark. He makes some of the world’s finest products, praised by the
consumers, prized by the world’s best restaurant, NOMA in Copenhagen,
and nursed in harmony with the universe. But Niels’ way of farming is not too popular with the
authorities and he risks seeing his life fall apart.
Before the screening of Good Things Await, Deputy Head of Mission at the Danish Embassy
Seemab Sheikh will give a speech and Niels Stokholm will be present at a Q&A session after the

23 August - RTÉ Concert Orchestra Summer Lunchtime Concert - National
Concert Hall
Enjoy Finlandia, the Finnish classic piece of music, by world famous composer Jean Sibelius. It is
on the programme for the lunchtime concert with RTÉ Concert Orchestra on 23 August, conducted
