The town was the ancestral homeland of William Nicoll who in 1683 was the first patentee of the land on this side of the pond that he named Islip. Every year on July 4, the village of Islip, England flies the U.S. Town of Islip flag over its town hall to celebrate the friendship between the two communities. And so Islip Town (U.S.) returns the favor. This summer, Islip, England Supervisor Tom Love visited Islip Town Hall and presented various artifacts and historical gifts to signify the ties between the two cities. This year, the 2014 Super Bowl Host Committee has partnered with the New York Blood Center to help increase blood donations leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII, which be held at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Feb. 2. All successful donors between now and Jan. 17 will be entered into a sweepstakes for one pair of tickets to the Super Bowl. New York Blood Center requires more than 2,000 volunteer blood donations each day to meet the transfusion needs of patients in close to 200 regional hospitals.
