Maurice Ammons
Proctor
Maurice Ammons Proctor,
98, of Panama City, FL died
April 3, 2014. The youngest
of nine children, Maurice was
born July 16, 1915 in
Conway, SC to Ansel
Lawrence
Proctor
and
Donella (Ammons) Proctor.
Retired Captain for Pan
American World Airways and
was a member of the U.S.
Army Air Corps.
His aviation career began in
1941 with the Captain
Civilian Pilot Training Program in Wilmington, NC at
Pennington Flying Service
for private pilot's license.
Secondary at Piedmont
Aviation, Winston-Salem, NC
in 1942. Maurice received
advanced training with AWTI
(Advanced War Training
Institute) conducted by the
CAA Standardization Center
at Houston, TX for instrument-link and multi-engine
training.
Maurice joined Pan
American in December, 1942
at Dinner Key, Miami, FL,
where for the first few
months he flew navigation
flights - training Air Force
and Navy Aviation Cadets
using the Commodore and
Sikorsky S-40 Seaplanes
equipped as flying classrooms. His flying career
advanced on to the DC-3, 4,
6, 7, 8; Convair CV-240;
Lockheed Constellation and
Boeing 727 until he retired at
the mandatory age of 60.
Air travels with Pan Am
covered most of the world.
He was based in Brazil, Rio,
New York, London and
Miami. His late wife of 60
years, Miriam, shared all this
- with so many fond memories.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Ted) Zangwill
and Valerie Proctor; his
grandchildren,
Maurice
(Kim) and Chris Jones; his
great-grandchildren, Justin
Jones, Miriam (Abby) Jones,
and David Zangwill; and his
great-great-grandchild, David
Lewis Zangwill.
Burial will be in Benson,
NC.
Betty Bair, Lois Liverman
and Bonnie Gilliam; and
eight grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents; and son in law, Anthony
Rusignuolo.
Visitation will be held
Saturday, Apr. 12, 2014 from
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the
Florida Avenue Baptist
Church in Avon Park with
funeral services beginning at
2:00 p.m. with Rev. John
Girdley officiating. Burial
will follow in Bougainvillea
Cemetery.
Family will be accepting floral arrangements or memorial
contributions may be made to
the Florida Avenue Baptist
Church: 710 West Bell Street,
Avon Park, FL 33825.
Roland Harris
RL Godsey
RL Godsey, age 70, passed
away Tuesday, Apr. 8, 2014 in
Sebring, FL.
He was born in Jellico, TN
to Raymond and Cleo
(Bowman) Godsey. Mr. Godsey was a salesman for NAPA
Auto Parts, member and
Deacon of the Florida Avenue
Baptist Church and had been
a resident of Avon Park since
2000,
coming
from
Homestead, FL.
Mr. Godsey is survived by
his wife, May F. Godsey;
children, Vickie Rusignuolo,
Raymond Godsey, Carla
(Charlie) Jones and Karen
(Michael) Ahrens; sisters,
Roland Harris, 85, passed
away peacefully on Sunday,
Apr. 6, 2014 in his home in
Homestead, FL surrounded
by his loving family.
He leaves behind his lovely
wife of 64 years, Doris
Harris; son, Jim Harris and
wife Carol; daughter, Marybeth Peterson and husband
Daniel; and three grandchildren, Kimberly Dolar, Craig
Dolar and Aubrey Lummert.
Born on Nov. 12, 1928 in
Homestead, FL. He joined the
Navy on Sep. 13, 1944 at the
age of 15 as Bugler First
Class V-6 serving two years
on the U.S.S. Pocomoke (AV9) during World War II.
In 1960 Harris & Schroeder
Builders was formed as a
partnership between Roland
Harris and Glenn Schroeder.
Glenn Schroeder retired in
1992 and Roland Harris
retired in 1998.
James M. Harris, a third
generation
builder
has
worked with his father most
of his life and had been an
equal partner since 1987 and
also a sole owner since 1998.

Non-Profit Grant Applications Workshop
The City of Homestead will conduct a Non-Profit Grant Application
Workshop on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the William F.
Dickinson Community Center located at 1601 N. Krome Avenue,
Homestead, to provide technical assistance to Non-Profit Agencies
interested in submitted their application to the City's CDBG Non-Profit
Grant Program. Applications are due at the City of Homestead City
Clerk's Office located at 650 NE 22 Terrace, Suite 100, Homestead,
FL 33033 no later than 2:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2014. Questions or
comments regarding this notice should be directed to Evelin
