(Los Angeles, March 24, 2011)—The Los Angeles County Museum of Art
(LACMA) has announced the election of three new members to its Board of
Trustees: Gabriela Garza, an avid museum philanthropist and collector of
contemporary and modern art; Viveca Paulin-Ferrell, an experienced art
auctioneer who has presided over numerous benefit auctions in the last 15
years; and Elaine Wynn, Director of Wynn Resorts, and education advocate.
“We are so pleased to have Gabriela, Viveca, and Elaine as Trustees.
Their leadership and experience will be invaluable as the museum continues
to broaden its audience, and establishes itself as a destination for
visitors locally and from across the world,” said LACMA CEO and Wallis
Annenberg Director Michael Govan.
“It’s inspiring to gain new board members who dedicate themselves to
bettering the future of museums and education. Co-chair Terry Semel and I
look forward to working with Elaine, Viveca, and Gabriela,” said LACMA
Board Co-Chair Andy Gordon.
Gabriela Garza
Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and educated in Mexico, Italy, and France,
Garza has a vast appreciation for museums around the world. She sponsored
the Magritte exhibition at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Mexico City
(2010), supports Art Crush at the Aspen Art Museum, and is a patron of the
Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City. She is also
involved with the American Friends of the Louvre, Boston Fine Arts Museum,
and the De Young Museum of San Francisco.
Both she and her husband supported the 2008 installation of LACMA’s preColumbian galleries, designed by artist Jorge Pardo. The Garzas have five
children and have residences in Aspen and Miami, and a primary residence
in Mexico.
Elaine Wynn
Having served as Director of Wynn Resorts since 2000, Wynn has helped
guide the company’s expansion from the opening of Wynn Las Vegas in April
2005 and Wynn Macau in September 2006 to the unveiling of Encore in
December 2008. Wynn serves broad leadership roles. She is a past member of
the Executive Board of the Consortium of Policy Research in Education, and
she chaired the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Foundation for eight
years. She serves on the boards of the Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts and the Library of Congress Trust Fund. She was recently awarded one
of seven National Promise of America Founder’s Awards for improving
children’s lives at a ceremony at the White House.
Viveca Paulin-Ferrell
Viveca Paulin-Ferrell is an active member of the Los Angeles art
community. She is a leading independent auctioneer with over fifteen years
of experience for clients including Bonhams and Butterfields, Los Angeles
Modern Auctions, and Santa Monica Auctions. Nationally she has conducted
auctions for numerous organizations including the Napa Valley Wine
Auction, the Tiger Woods Foundation, the Japanese American National
Museum, Cancer For College, the Swedish School of Los Angeles, Focus on
Aids, Israel Cancer Research Foundation, Zimmer Childrens Museum, and the
National Organization for Women, to name a few. She received her training
as an auctioneer at Butterfield & Butterfield while working in the
California and American Paintings Department. Paulin-Ferrell has a
Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Pomona College in Claremont,
California.
She and husband, Will Ferrell, are active members of LACMA’s Director’s
Circle; Collectors Committee; Decorative Arts and Design Council; Prints
and Drawings Council; and Modern and Contemporary Art Council. PaulinFerrell co-chaired the Director’s Circle’s 2010 California Modern Design
fundraising event at Rudolf Schindler’s Buck House, and is chairing this
