This is how The SOURCE caseworker was able to help someone in a similar situation:
While at a site visit, an employee approached the caseworker about transportation
- getting to work was difficult. The employee was without a driver’s license and
found getting rides back and forth to work to be unreliable. The employee lived 2.5
miles from work and on a shift that did not match the bus schedule. The caseworker
was able to meet the employee at work the next day and loan them a bike, lock and
helmet through the SOURCE bike program. The employee used the bike to get to
work for 3 months while they saved up enough money to pay off their fines. Once
the fines were paid, the employee was able to get a driver’s license and purchase a
car. The employee then returned the bike to the SOURCE and has referred
co-workers to the bike program.

GOVERNING BOARD OF DIRECTORS
If you or someone you know are no longer in need of a bike or would be able to
help repair a bike, The SOURCE would appreciate donations of gently used bikes
and/or your assistance with repairs. The donations will be used for the Bike
Program that we offer to the employees of our member companies. Please
contact us via phone at 616-452-5295 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Thank
you in advance from all of us here at The SOURCE!
This month we would like to feature the employees of Butterball Farms.
Butterball is heavily represented in our community! Employees volunteer at In
The Image for the SHOES event every fall, providing kids with new shoes for
school. They also have multiple clothes drives and support the Fore the Kids Golf
Outing.
The employees participate in the downtown Relay for Life. They raised over
$5,000 this year for the American Cancer Association! Cancer survival rates have
improved significantly over the last 40 years due to support from volunteers like
Butterball employees. Well done!
Employees support the 5k walk for Wedgewood too. What a great way to
support a local organization and get some activity in for the wellness program!
Potters House is supported through a yearly scholarship, and the employee’s
staff a field day every year for the students. Employees also teach Junior
Achievement classes at Potters House.
Butterball supports the arts too! They presented employees with tickets to
Picnic at the Pops, and memberships to the Public Museum. What an excellent
employee benefit while supporting community! Other local organizations are
supported through memberships and volunteering on various boards.
Thank you Butterball employees for supporting a variety of organizations and
programs in our community! Your participation and support make a big difference
to many in our community.

The Relay For Life events are back
this year and going strong in the fight
to end cancer and raise awareness
throughout communities. Hundreds
from the community come out to
show their support by either
volunteering or cheering on the relay
participants from the sidelines.
Several employees from Butterball
Farms (as shown on the left) recently
volunteered at the Relay For Life of
Grand Rapids event that was held
downtown at Ah-Nab-Awen Park on June 14. The event raised over $100, 000
with a total of 40 teams and 330 participants. Nicely done!! For more information
on an upcoming relay event near you, please visit www.relayforlife.org.
