News for the Young Children, Families and Providers of Lenoir and Greene Counties
July/August
2014
We hope all of our local child
care professionals are
enjoying the summer so far.
Please remember the high
heat temperatures and look for
heatstroke warning signs
(more on this page 3) in the
young children in your care.
We are excited to introduce
you to our newest staff
member, Jennelle Lewis. See
her bio on this page!
Lots of wonderful pictures to
share in this issue of recent
events (page 2). Don’t forget
to share pictures of your child
care in action with our
Community Outreach
Coordinator, Molly Taylor.
She loves sharing our mission
with the community and we
are embarking on even more
ways to spread the word.
More to come on this….!
In the spirit of our mission,
“Developing Today’s
Children to Become
Tomorrow’s Leaders”
Keith Sylvester
Executive Director
The Partnership for Children is pleased to introduce our newest staff
member, Jennelle Lewis. Jennelle joins us as the Assuring Better Child
Health and Development (ABCD) Coordinator. ABCD is a project that
improves the quality of child development services in primary care
medical practices by enhancing developmental screenings, referrals and
follow-up for children ages birth-5 in the context of the medical home.
Jennelle is a native of Goldsboro, NC who received her BS in Family
Community Service from East Carolina University in 2004. She was
previously employed with ECU Physicians-Family Medicine as an
Administrative Support Specialist. Jennelle currently resides in
Winterville.
Through her role with ABCD, Jennelle will be serving multiple counties,
including Lenoir, Greene, Jones, Duplin, Craven, Pitt and Martin. “I am
excited about the opportunity to enhance the developmental growth of
children and their families, stated Jennelle. ABCD will provide early
intervention services and ongoing assistance with medical providers.”
Jennelle is very family-oriented and enjoys teaching preschool at her
church. She is passionate about ECU (Pirate Forever!) and is looking
forward to her new career at the Partnership for Children.
Please help us welcome Jennelle!
There are only 2,000 days between the time
a baby is born and when that child begins
kindergarten.

Heatstroke Safety Tips
Reduce the number of deaths from heatstroke by remembering to ACT:
A: Avoid heatstroke-related injury and death by never leaving your child
alone in a car, not even for a minute.
C: Create reminders by putting something in the back of your car
next to your child such as a briefcase, purse or a cell phone that is
needed at your final destination.
T: Take action. If you see a child alone in a car, call 911. Emergency
personnel want you to call. They are trained to respond to these situations. One call could save a life.
