Evelyn Cox will celebrate her 95th birthday with
an open house from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the
Wellington Park Shelter.

Rossville Christmas parade
Rossville will kick off the Christmas season with
the annual Light Parade at 6 p.m. Saturday. The parade, sponsored by Rossville Community Organization, will go down Rt. 1 from grade school to Christman Park, which will be lighted from Saturday
through January 1, 2014.
The annual Winter Carnival, sponsored by RCO
and Rossville-Alvin Grade School PTO, will be held
from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the grade school.
Food for Fines
Hoopeston Public Library’s annual Food for Fines
program has started. During December, the library
will accept canned goods and nonperishable food
items within their expiration dates, along with household paper products, as payment of overdue fines.
Each item or package equals $1 toward the fine.
(Some single items or packages may not qualify.) All
items will be donated to Grant Township Food Cupboard.
Needed items include Jello, Jiffy cornbread mix,
bath soap, toilet paper, canned fruit, cake mix and
frosting, laundry soap and Hamburger Helper.

Police News
Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident
reported at 1:03 p.m. Monday at Hoopeston Carle
Hospital, 701 E. Orange. An unknown vehicle hit a
parked 2011 Ford Fusion owned by Aleta Cable of
Lafayette, Ind.
No tickets or injuries were reported in an accident
at 2:37 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of East Lincoln. Police said Amelia N. Young, 18, of Hoopeston, was eastbound in a 2008 Chrysler when she lost
control and struck a street sign.
No injuries were reported.
