Reclaiming the Lord’s Day
An old spiritual adage says “Remember your last end, and you
will never sin.” If we remember that God has prepared an
eternity of joy for us, how could we ever turn our backs on
him? What ever our problems and crises, let us renew our
hope that all things will work together for good for those who
love the Lord. Let us watch and pray in order to be ready
when he calls us to eternal joy.

There was a time when Sunday was a special day.
People went to church on Sunday morning. The
afternoon was a great time for a good book, a visit to
friends and neighbors, or a little nap. Families gathered
for Sunday dinner. Children played with their cousins.
Stores, banks, businesses, schools and libraries were
closed. It was unthinkable to do laundry or
housecleaning. Sunday was the Lord’s Day. It was a
special day, a day of celebration, a day of rest. Now
Sunday has become just another day, to shop, to get
caught up on errands and to work.
That’s not how it should be. It’s not how it can be.
Take a step off the speeding treadmill of life and
recapture the job of setting aside one day a week as a
holy day, an oasis in life, a place to encounter the living
God.

The Advent Wreath has its origins in Germany in
the sixteenth century. The wreath - a circle of
evergreens symbolizing God’s eternal love - holds
four candles, three violet and one pink. Violet is the
traditional penitential color of Advent, and the pink candle
symbolizing joy is lit on Gaudete (Joyful) Sunday, the Third
Sunday of the season. As we light the four candles one by one,
we’re reminded of how God’s light has gradually illumined
the world’s darkness through history, culminating in Jesus, the
light of the World and the Sun of Justice.

Thank you to all who donated Thanksgiving Dinners and to all
the volunteers who donated their time to drive them to the city.

The Mass Book is open for January 2015 through June
2015. A limit of 3 Masses per visit will be permitted.
A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother - St. Isaac Jogues
is offering a DVD series with Dr. Edward Sri filmed on
location in the Holy Land. The Introduction and the
Annunciation will be covered at the first session at 7 pm on
Tuesday December 2nd, in the parish hall. The same session
will be offered again on Sunday December 7th, in the Video
Room at 1:15pm.
Breakfast with Santa – St. Isaac Jogues Parish
Hall on Saturday, December 6th, from 9:00 am to
11:00 am. Reservations are a must. Deadline is
Tuesday, December 2nd.
Advent Giving Tree - St. Isaac’s traditional “Advent Giving
Tree” to support the less fortunate of will take place the
weekends of November 29 & 30, and December 7th & 8Th,
and December 14th & 15th. Please take a gift tag from the
tree located in the back of the church and return the gift with
the tag attached and place it under the tree no later than
Sunday, December 15th. PLEASE DO NOT WRAP ANY
GIFTS JUST ATTACH THE TAG. These gifts will then be
sorted and delivered to the appropriate location.
Jolly Jogues News – Our 26th Annual Christmas luncheon
will be celebrated at Aronimink Country Club on Tuesday,
December 9th. All reservations are due by December 2nd.
Christmas Flower Offering - An envelope is
included in your December envelope set. You need
only drop it in the Sunday collection. Those who
are being remembered will be prayed for during
the Masses of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Their names
and the names of those who remembered them will be posted.
We ask your cooperation in making your contribution by
Friday, December 12th, so that the list can be compiled.
“Snow is in the Air” – In the event of severe
snow the 8:00 am Weekly Daily Mass
Schedule will be based on the Tredyffrin
School District Schedule. If the school is
closed or delayed there will be no 8:00 am Daily Mass
that day, thus giving time to get the lot cleared for the
12:05 pm Mass. Please call 610-240-1970 to check for
school closings.

advise the Pastor.

Family Pot-Luck Dinner and Posada – Friday, December
12th, at 6:00 pm. The POSADA tradition comes from Mexico
and was originally a novena celebrated on the nine days before
Christmas. The word “posada” means inn, and during the
evening we will act out the journey of Mary & Joseph looking
for a place to stay in Bethlehem. Everyone participates in this

Parish Giving - is a safe, convenient and effective way for
you to support our parish. Our goal is to significantly increase
the use of this important stewardship tool here at St. Isaac’s.
Over the next few weeks we will be asking that you
prayerfully consider enrolling in Parish Giving. Visit the

Share First, Spend Second – The desire to share with others
flows from a Christian commitment. The key to financial
discipline is to get our sharing with others and our spending on
ourselves into the right order of priority. If we spend first, we
won’t have much left to share. If we share first, we’ll manage
to live on the rest.
WHAT DRAWS PEOPLE INTO THE
CATHOLIC FAITH? - While there are
many different circumstances that lead a
person in the direction of Catholicism, the
simple answer is, “Because God has called
them.”
Most often, God calls to us through the
people closest to us, through our families and friends. Most
who have entered the Church have been influenced by a
Catholic spouse, fiancé, or close friend. For many of these
people, a desire to raise their children in the knowledge of
God spurred them to action. What is this if not the action of
the Holy Spirit?

Second Collection – The Second Collection next weekend will
be for the Retirement Fund for Religious
YOUTH MINISTRY
Parish Coffee – Please consider hosting a Parish Coffee. Call
Carol Friel at the Rectory Office if you wish to help keep this
tradition alive.
Attention all Youth between 7th and 12th Grade - Please
join us every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month for Youth Night
after the 5:00 PM Mass. Come and grow in your faith, meet
new friends and for a great time.
Operation Food Pantry – is ongoing. Please bring
your non-perishable food items to the Parish Hall
before and after all Masses.
Junior High Youth Group - meets on the 3rd Friday of the
month from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm.in the Parish Hall.
St. Johns Hospice Casseroles - All over the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia there are special people who prepare a casserole
once a month, freeze it and take it to their parish drop-off
point. St. John’s sends out a refrigerated truck each weekday
to pick them all up. Please drop off your frozen casserole NO
Later than 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29th, to the Parish
Hall freezer. Please remember to put the date the casserole
was frozen on the lid or they will not be able to take them.
Malvern Retreat House – Advent Day of Reflection with
Director Father William Dean on Wednesday, December 3rd,
from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost $40 per person, includes
danish & coffee and a sit down lunch.
