certified by a Chief Officer to attend.
Participants are limited in number. Pre-enrollment is necessary
and should be done early. Students must select a first, second
and third choice class since classes may be cancelled.

FIPO - BASIC FIRE POLICE
This class is an “Introduction to Fire Police Procedures.”
Subjects to be covered include your police power,
laws, safety, traffic direction, regulations, equipment,
communications, crowd control, pre-plans, personal conduct,
security, descriptions, news media, uniforms, etc.

FSC 243.006 FIPA - ADVANCED FIRE POLICE
This class is “Beyond the Basics for Fire Police.” Subjects:
training officer’s duties, community relations, driving,
court testifying, advanced communications, surveillance,
leadership, witnesses, ethics, S.O.P., evidence, liability,
negligence, supervision, self-defense, arrest powers,
problem drinkers-drivers, search, security, advanced traffic
control, etc. FIPO Prerequisite.

GANGS AND THE
FIRST RESPONDER
4 Hrs
For decades, gang violence has had a major impact on
the first responder communities. This class presents local
and national views on the trends, consequences and
preparation strategies to manage gang activity. The addition
of gangs to rural areas has created a shift in how response
actions are managed as well as how responders are trained
to handle gang related emergency incidents. Discussion
on how and why gangs are becoming more prominent in
rural Pennsylvania will be a focus point for the program.
Case studies outlining gang involvement signs, evidence,
and community presence will provide a forum for guided
discussion on this topic. Gang behavior and culture factors
such as clothing, music, tags and other indicators of gang
activity will be covered.

FSC 239.006 ERFP - EMERGENCY RESPONSE
FOR FIRE POLICE
Fire Police are often the first responders to arson events,
hazardous materials incidents, floods, electrical power
failures, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural or “mancaused” disasters. FIPO Prerequisite.

SCENE PRESERVATION FOR
FIRST RESPONDERS (SPFR)
3 Hrs
Provides participants with basic understanding of access
and control of evidence that may be encountered at a fire
scene. This course will also address the legal aspects of
evidence preservation, personal safety issues, on-scene
conduct and documentation requirements for emergency
responders.

EMERGENCY PERSONNEL

This 4-hour VFIS course is designed to present the
necessary classroom instruction and evaluation of learning
for emergency service personnel who may be involved
in highway incidents that require them to work in close
proximity in the knowledge and understanding of safety
principles at vehicle-related highway incidents and the
consequences that may result from unsafe acts while
driving.

This seminar introduces the student to Title 35 and the
latest revisions to the law Act 122 of 1980. Updates of other
vehicle codes and operation changes.

LCFP - LEGAL CONCEPTS
FOR FIRE POLICE
This course is an in-depth study of the laws affecting Fire
Police and the involvement of their municipal authority
and fire department. Subjects: the laws, misconceptions,
liability, indirect liability, lawsuits, training, arrests, citations,
detention, insurance, courtroom procedures, vehicle codes
and regulations, crime codes, etc. FIPO Prerequisite.

FSC 241.006 CPFP - COMMUNICATIONS &
PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR FIRE POLICE
What is communication? Why are listening skills important?
This course will provide instruction on verbal, non-verbal, and
implied communications. Various communication media and
feedback will be addressed. There will be demonstrations
during the program. FIPO Prerequisite.

NEFP - FIRE POLICE IN
NON-EMERGENCY OPERATIONS
This course will provide the student with information to help
him or her perform police services in the community in
non-emergency activities. Topics to be discussed include:
professionalism, proper attire, grooming, traffic control at
funerals, and policing at parades, carnivals, schools and
other community events. FIPO Prerequisite.

EMERGENCY VEHICLE
DRIVER TRAINING (EVOC)
This 16-hour course provides instruction for emergency
personnel who may be involved in operating emergency
vehicles. Topics include: defensive driving, emergency response, vehicle maintenance and a driver obstacle course.
Students must be age 18. Students must bring their own fire
department or emergency vehicles. This class is limited to
24 students. Manuals will be provided.

FIRE POLICE REVIEW
The intent of this program is to clarify some misunderstanding
fire police officers have developed regarding their duties and
responsibilities, to provide additional information to assist
them in the performance of their duties, and to bring into
focus materials and information gained during attendance
and various training programs. Prerequisite: Basic Fire
Police.

INTRODUCTION TO
THE FIRE SERVICE
This 16 hour entry level course is designed to introduce
new firefighters to basic information including an overview
of the fire service, fire service organization, firefighter safety,
personal protective equipment which includes a participant
to fully don turnout gear. Identifying forcible entry tools,
setting up scene lighting and assisting in backing up fire
apparatus and mounting and dismounting fire apparatus
such as the Engine or Truck. Students will need to bring
with them turnout gear that properly fits which includes
coat, pants, boots, helmet, hood, eye protection, glove and
safety vest. Student will be required to have for the class
the 6th edition of the IFSTA book for this class. Students
may be able to acquire this book at the Fire Police book
table before class but there is a fee associated with either
a purchase or rental. At the end of this program there is a
written exam. Students will be provided with a skills book
for the class. Students must be age 14 or older.
