COMMUNITY CHARITY CHALLENGE
Help your favorite charity raise money & win prizes!
Once again, we’re teaming up with the MSU Federal Credit Union and
the Capital Region Community Foundation to raise money for local
charities. We invite you to nominate your favorite charity to participate!
Complete a nomination form online at www.universityclubofmsu.org
no later than December 5, 2014 (or stop by the front desk). Each
member household may nominate TWO charities. The organizations
receiving the most nominations will be invited to participate in this
year’s challenge. On February 1, online voting will open to the public,
with each “vote” being a $5 donation to the Capital Area Community
Foundation. At the end of the voting period, every organization will
receive their vote money,* plus the top three will also earn one of our
three grand prizes.
Last year’s winner was the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, which raised
just over $8,000... PLUS they won a $10,000 credit toward a fundraising
event at the University Club.
Please go online and fill out your nomination form today, and help
your favorite charity raise money!
* The Capital Region Community Foundation will receive a percentage of all donations to
cover processing costs.

Around the Club…
News & Updates from CEO/GM Karen Grannemann, CCM
By now, you’ve received a letter from me, challenging you to recruit one new
U-Club member. The response has been overwhelming…so many of you have
sent in numerous nominations, and we are extending a warm invitation to each
one. Thank you so much for your support, and I look forward to welcoming your
friends and colleagues as members.

I’ve talked with so many of you who had never thought about the importance of peer
recruitment. I’m sure some of you are wondering why this is so crucial to the Club’s
future. You may be thinking that smaller is better, that a large influx of new members would be bad.
Throughout the Club’s 85 years, others have undoubtedly felt the same way, as the Club’s membership
expanded. But that growth has enabled us to provide the widest array of services, 363 days a year, in a
well-maintained and newly renovated clubhouse for the lowest per-member price. Many people are
surprised at how low dues are, and we want to keep it that way. Looking forward, we want to continue
to improve our clubhouse, expand our wine program, renovate the pool and recreational areas,
enhance the Terrace, reduce our environmental footprint, add a special gazebo for weddings, expand
our services, and so much more. A vibrant and expanded membership can make that possible.
Grannemann
Every year, we lose about 10% of our members to attrition, and only you can recruit the people you
want to see in the dining room, on the next treadmill, or beside you by the pool. We are working
diligently to continuously improve the quality and scope of products and services we provide to
you, as well as the support we provide to our community and employees, and need your help to
do so. It’s a matter of economics…the more business we do, the more we can do for you! So, in the
spirit of David Letterman, here's a "Top Ten" list for you!

Follow the Trends to Keep Your
Makeup Look in Style
By Ashley Matson, U-Club Spa Coordinator
Trends come and go for all things fashionable and makeup is no exception! Right now,
a natural look is very in style. Try using nude tones on a glowing palate without heavy
mascara or dark eye shadows. For fall, the trend also includes warm, autumnal makeup.
This look can include the eyes and/or lips using light brown, beige, warm oranges, and
yellow hues. Our Glo Minerals line has a wonderful collection of naturals that would work well with both of these trends.
Come holiday season, the high drama trend
is still popular! Create the classic smoky eye
by applying intense eye shadow colors to
the brow line, then use a black eye liner on
the lower lid. Go with a little sparkle and use gold, copper, silver, and
bronze metallic eye makeup. Also on trend are bright red or crimson
lips. You can achieve this look by keeping eye makeup to a minimum
and applying a red, raspberry, or pink lipstick and liner.
The U-Club Spa offers makeup application for special occasions,
consultations for makeup selection and application techniques, and a
full line of all-natural Glo Minerals makeup. Stop in to the Spa to pick up
your Glo Minerals

The Gift of Membership
Buy $100 for others & save $10!
For the gift that keeps on giving, give
your loved ones the gift of a U-Club
membership! You can pre-pay dues for a
new or existing member for any length of
time and/or purchase one of our optional
memberships for fitness, golf, tennis, or the
Detroit Community. Did you know that Junior Legacy memberships
have no initiation fee and dues of only $60 per month? A U-Club
membership always fits and is a great way to show you care! For
details, contact Phyllis Riley or Jessie Hartmann at 353-5111.
Treat someone special to a luxurious spa service or elegant dinner with
a U-Club gift card. Pick a dollar amount and let the gift receiver choose
their own gift, or select a specific spa service or package that you know
they’ll love! Between now and December 24, purchase $100 in gift cards
as a gift for someone else and pay only $90! Gift cards can be purchased
at the U-Club or Fitness Center front desk, or by calling 353-5111.
