WELCOME
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
As we close the year, we have had some significant changes with staff worth noting. Our
Supervisor, Darren Peterson was given a promotion and has left Trout Lake. Darren has
been here since the new Centre opened. Darren demonstrated exceptional leadership
and we are very grateful for all the time and effort he has given our community. We
wish him continued success! During the time that the hiring process took to replace
Darren, Eva Srobotniak stepped into the interim role of Acting Supervisor. Big thanks
to her for keeping the centre humming along! I am happy to introduce Ian Broadbent
as our new Supervisor. Ian brings valuable experience from the YMCA and we are
excited to have him take the reins.
As always, we have a full complement of programming courtesy of our fabulous
Programmers, Eva and Ny. I also want to acknowledge Laura and front counter staff
for the great work they do and all our PA’s who also go above and beyond.
As for me this past year, it had its usual ups and downs. I continue to be at the table
with Park Board to try and get a new deal done that reflects the needs of both parties
and honours the partnership that has been in place for over 40 years.
Some acknowledgements to the people I work with on our Board. They are an exciting
and dedicated bunch of folks that I am honoured to stand with. In particular, I would
like to mention specifically, Susan Gordon, who is stepping down this year. Sue has
given her time, wisdom and leadership with her tenure with us and I am sad to see her
go, but know that she will not be a stranger. Thank you Sue!!
Happy Winter,
Kate

MISSION STATEMENT
WHY A BOARD?
Our mandate is to bring together our community to provide accessible
recreational, social, educational, and cultural opportunities that promote
and develop individual, family and community well being.
The GCCA is a non-profit society comprised of community volunteers
that jointly operates the Trout Lake Community Centre with the Vancouver
Park Board. The Association seeks to make the centre a place where
health and wellness is at the forefront of thinking and where a full
spectrum of social, physical, arts and culture programs enriches the lives
of individuals and their community. Anyone who would like to be involved
is invited to contribute. Contact Lora at [email protected].
GRANDVIEW COMMUNITY
CENTRE ASSOCIATION
Our responsibilities include shaping programming, hiring instructors,
raising funds, and accessing grants, developing rental policy, advocating
for our parks and insuring that decisions affecting the community are
made at the grass roots level. The revenue generated through programs
and rentals stays in our community and is invested in activities for
children, special events, facility enhancements, park programs and
artist residencies among other things. The Association advocates for
this community on a number of levels and your voice helps us better
represent the community. Let us know how this centre can serve you
and if and how you would like to be involved. Your contribution can be
anywhere from an hour at an event to serving on the Board or one of
its committees.
