Next Steps for New Freshmen Guide for Enrolling at WSSU Welcome to WSSU! We look forward to you joining our freshman class for the spring 2015 semester. This guide provides information about the next steps and allows you to track your progress towards completing these steps. If you have questions about a specific step, please refer to the contact information column. The ‘how-to’ instructions for completing the steps are online at www.wssu.edu. Once you are on the site, select Admissions then Admitted Students. This guide lists which section of the Admitted Students website you will use for the instructions. As soon as you accept your offer you may register for New Freshman Day. Approximately one week after you complete this step your WSSU email account will be created and you can begin checking your emails. Pay Your Enrollment Fee Secure Your Enrollment The enrollment fee is $218.00 and covers the housing application fee ($135.00) and the RAMDITION fee ($83.00). You can make a single payment of $218.00 or you can make two or more payments to cover the fee. On-campus housing assignments are not made until you pay the $135.00 housing application fee in full. We encourage you to meet this payment amount as soon as possible. The fee for RAMDITION - $83.00 – must be paid no later than January 5, 2015. Next Steps for New Freshmen Guide for Enrolling at WSSU STEP ADMITTED STUDENTS SECTION Know Your WSSU Email Address Secure Your Enrollment WSSU student email is an official method for all university communications (including academic and enrollment services). And it is often the primary source of communication. For example, you will receive your housing assignment through your WSSU email account. Waive or Enroll – Student Health Insurance Student Wellness All schools in the UNC system require that you enroll in the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) insurance plan unless you provide proof of other health insurance coverage through the waiver process. Other health insurance includes coverage under a parent/guardian health insurance plan, coverage under your personal plan, or Medicaid. Student athletes may not waive the BCBS insurance. The premium for the BCBS Student Health Insurance is $802.00 with coverage starting January 1, 2015 and ending on July 31, 2015. This cost will automatically appear on your student bill for the spring semester. If you complete the waiver process, and your waiver is approved, you will not have to pay the premium. Please note, the premium will remain on your bill until midFebruary at which time it will be removed. Complete the Financial Aid Process Financial Aid Process Financial aid awards are made after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been received by WSSU and reviewed for accuracy and completeness. The award process may take between four to six weeks to complete based on your specific situation. Financial aid award are optimal. Financial aid award may be changed/modified as required or needed per federal and/or state regulations and institutional policies. You may be selected for verification, a process that confirms the accuracy of the information you provided on the FAFSA. Selection for verification is determined by the U.S. Department of Education. WSSU also reserves the right to request verification based on the FAFSA. If you are selected for verification we ask that you submit the requested documents as soon as possible and avoid any additional delays in the award process. If you are selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, you will be notified by email. The email notification will be sent by [email protected]. If you are selected for verification by WSSU the email notification will be sent by [email protected]. Verification emails are sent to the email address you provided on your FAFSA. If you are selected for verification you will be notified via your Banner Rams Online account. Next Steps for New Freshmen Guide for Enrolling at WSSU STEP ADMITTED STUDENTS SECTION Apply for On-Campus Housing Living on Campus New freshmen are required to live on campus. You will need to complete and submit the required housing forms and pay the $135.00 housing application fee. You may apply for an exemption to the on-campus housing requirement if you meet at least one of the exemptions and provide appropriate documentation. Submit Immunization Records/Health History Student Wellness The State of North Carolina requires all new students to provide proof of required immunizations. WSSU requires all new students to provide a record of their health history in order to provide appropriate health care. You will not be allowed to move into your residence hall until you have complied with the North Carolina immunization requirements. Submit Final Transcripts Secure Your Enrollment If you are currently enrolled in classes at a high school and/or community college you must submit official, final transcripts. Students who are completing their last semester of high school must submit transcripts in order for any financial aid award to be released. Students who are completing courses at a community college must submit transcripts in order to receive credit for the courses and to ensure they are enrolled in the appropriate classes. Pay Your Student Bill Paying for College You must pay, or make arrangements to pay, your student bill no later than January 7, 2014 to remain in a residence hall and attend classes. There are several options for paying your student bill including payment by credit or debit card, cashier check, money order, or establishing a payment plan. Payment plans are offered by the WSSU Office of Student Accounts and Cashiering through our RAMPay Plan. There is a $40 fee to enroll in the payment plan. The RAMPay monthly payment is determined based on your student bill and when you start making payments. RAMPay offers five, four, and three, month payment plans. This is an opportunity for you to work with staff members from Admissions, Registrar’s Office, Scholarships and Financial Aid, Student Accounts and Cashiering, and Student Health in completing the enrollment steps. This event will be held in 207 Thompson Center. Please stop by anytime between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. New Freshman Residence Hall Move-In: Wednesday, January 7, 2015 – new freshman may move-in to their assigned room between noon and 2:00 pm. RAMDITION (New Student Orientation) activities will be held on January 8th and 9th. Students should check in at Hill Hall, room L05 starting at 9:00 am. The opening session will begin promptly at 9:30 am.
