PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The nCMB family of nLight fixture mount occupancy sensors provide a range of networked sensor solutions
for industrial fixtures and applications. nCMB family sensors utilize 100% digital Passive Infrared (PIR)
detection and are available with several lens options, providing flexibility for multiple mounting height
and coverage pattern requirements. Dual technology occupancy detection can also be added as an option
for applications where occupants are stationary for long periods of time. All sensors have integrated on/
off photocells as a standard feature, with automatic daylight harvesting/dimming control as an available
option.

PASSIVE INFRARED (PIR) or DUAL TECH (PDT)
nCMB family sensors are powered via the nLight network bus and typically communicate with one or more
nLight relay/dimming packs to enable control of fixtures individually or in groups. Often they are mounted
together with a nPP16 family relay/dimming pack on a single industrial LED or fluorescent fixture. This
configuration works as a standalone zone and does not require a connection to a larger nLight network.
SENSOR OPERATION — The sensor detects changes in the infrared energy given off by occupants as
they move within the field-of-view. When occupancy is detected the sensor signals other nLight enabled
devices to switch connected lighting loads on. Sensors with Passive Dual Technology (PDT) first see
motion using Passive Infrared (PIR) and then engage Microphonics to hear sounds that indicate continued
occupancy. This patented technology dynamically adapts a sensor to its environment by filtering out
constant background noise and detecting only noises typical of human activity. A factory-set internal time
delay of 10 minutes keeps the sensor in the occupied state during brief periods of inactivity. The time
delay is reset every time occupancy is re-detected. These sensors require no field calibration or sensitivity
adjustments.
nLIGHT NETWORKED OPERATION — nCMB family devices are native nLight devices meaning they
are individually addressable and digitally communicate to other nLight devices such as Wallpd switches,
power packs, nLight-enabled digital luminaires, and other sensors. All devices are wired using CAT-5e
cabling; creating a local nLight control zone. Once linked to an nLight Gateway, either directly or via an
nLight network backbone, the zone becomes capable of remote status monitoring, configuration, and
control with nLight SensorView software.

FEATURES
• 100% digital PIR detection
• Push-button programmable, adjustable time delays, multiple operating modes
• Integrated photocell standard (disabled by default) — Photocell views down through sensor lens and
when enabled provides two selectable modes of operation
1. On/Off mode: Photocell has full on/off control during periods of occupancy
2. Inhibit mode: Photocell can prevent lights from turning on if adequate daylight is available, but
cannot turn lights off
• LED status indicator
• Adustable settings (e.g. occupancy time delays, photocell set-points) via push-button or SensorView
software application
• Broadcasts occupancy and photocell information over a local nLight channel
• Remotely upgradeable firmware
CONTROL MODES
An nLight zone with an nCMB device can operate in two Automatic On modes:
1. Auto On / Auto Off (i.e. Fully Automatic)
2. Auto On (initial state) to Override On (with expiration timer)
If connected in a zone with a WallPod switch, an nCMB device can also operate in several Manual On
modes:
1. Manual On (initial state) to Override On (with expiration timer)
2. Manual On / Automatic Off (i.e. Semi-Automatic)
3. Manual On (initial state) to Fully Automatic
4. Predictive Off (returns zone to Automatic On unless person remained in view of the sensor after an Off
switch press)
OPTIONS
DUAL TECHNOLOGY (PDT) — Combines patented Microphonics detection technology with PIR
technology. Available with Small Motion 360º & Low Bay 360º coverage sensors only.
COVERAGE TYPES — See coverage patterns on reverse.
AUTOMATIC DIMMING CONTROL (ADCX) — Photocell within sensor maintains overall light level by
controlling remote dimming outputs wired to dimming fluorescent ballasts and LED drivers.
DUAL OCCUPANCY TIME DELAYS (2P) — Enables a second time delay to be used for dual pole or
fan/light applications. Device broadcasts by default on occupancy channels 1 & 2. LOW TEMPERATURE / HIGH HUMIDITY OPTION (LT) — Device electronics are coated for corrosion
resistance - required for cold storage or humid areas. Operates down to -40º F/C (-4º F / -20º C for PDT).

INSTALLATION
1. Mount sensor through a 1/2” knockout (7/8” hole) to a fixture or junction box.
2. Interconnect unit (via rear RJ-45 ports) with other nLight devices using CAT-5e cables
3. Once powered (via CAT-5e bus), sensor will automatically begin functioning together with
connected devices according to each device’s defaults FB3
4. If the sensor’s field-of-view is partially blocked by
the fixture housing, the FB3 Fixture Bracket (not
included) can be used to lower the sensor down to a
level where its view is not impaired
5. Refer to included instruction card for default settings
and directions on push-button programming.
