We were pleasantly surprised to see that several factors worked in our favor to keep school taxes and the mill rate down
this year from last year. We have worked hard to monitor our budget so that we have been able to take advantage of our
very favorable state aid grant. We are a very highly aided school district, being aided at about 80% for our general fund
expenditures. We are also among the ten lowest per student spending school districts in the state. Prior year spending is
what the state looks at when it grants aid for the subsequent year. For that reason we have been spending down our
budget very close to its approved level and putting less into fund balance. We still maintain a fund balance with the goal
of not having to do any short term borrowing. We use our fund balance to effectively manage our cash flow.

We also have refinanced one of our three 2010 construction bonds recently. This restructuring will help us over the next
four years when our debt service was scheduled to go from about $875,000 to about $1,200,000. This would have had a
significant negative impact on local taxes if left unaddressed. We did the restructuring at a time when we were able to
save money on the total cost of the bonds as well as to reduce our annual debt service payment for those four years to
about $875,000. We are very pleased that economic conditions and our strong bond rating allowed us to reduce future
taxes and save money at the same time. If you have any questions about taxes or budget issues please feel free to contact
our superintendent, Dr. Ronald J. Walsh.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
On November 11, the Student Council

Assembly.
The student body should be

at 3:30 p.m. and running until 7:30 p.m. Once
again we will be running “appointment only”
conferences between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
These conferences are reserved for parents who
have been invited by staff members to meet

A POSITIVE PLACE FOR KIDS
Dear Parents and Community Members,
It is hard to believe the holiday season is here.
Where does the time go? It will be a busy three
weeks at Mound View. The student council is
sponsoring an Ornament Workshop on
December 8 at 6:00 pm. The elementary
concert will be December 15 at 6:00 pm in the
high school gym. The program is titled
Christmas on the Radio.
All parents,
grandparents and community members who do
not want to fight the crowd are also invited to
attend an afternoon performance on that day
which begins at 1:00 pm.
The evening
performance will also be live-streamed on the
school website for those unable to attend. The
preschool holiday concerts will be December
11 at 9:00 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The preschool
programs will focus on a parent sing-a-long
with a light reception between the programs.
We invite family, friends and community
members to share in these events.
November 14. Thanks to Christine Gilbert and
Vicki Adams for organizing the event! The
decorations were great! This success is a credit
to the organization and our wonderful
community. Thanks to all of the volunteers for
making this possible!
Feast over lunch and the first grade hosted a
special Friendship Feast breakfast. We also
had a school-wide Turkey-trot to promote
fitness with the students. We at Mound View
feel it is important to teach the students to be
thankful for all of our blessings.
We observed Veterans Day at Mound View on
November 11. We had a short program in the
morning with the choir club providing music
over the intercom in the morning! Thanks to
the student council, Ms. Labs and Mrs.
Linzmeier for their part in the program and a
huge thanks to all of you who have served our
country! We truly are grateful for the sacrifices
of veterans and their families.
Winter is visiting us early this year! Please
remind our students who ride the bus to be
especially cautious at bus stops this time of
year. Because of slippery roads, they should
stand a safe distance from the road at all times
and wait until the bus comes to a complete stop
before they approach the bus. As drivers,
please use extra caution when approaching a
stopped bus on a snowy road.
The fourth grade students completed the
Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Testing in
November. The tests this year focused only on
science and social studies. These are important
assessments to help assess the progress of our
students and the effectiveness of our
educational programs. Students in grades three
and four will be taking the new Badger
Assessment this year in the spring. Our
teachers continue to work hard to provide a
quality education for all of our students.
May your holidays be filled with family and
friends to celebrate this wonderful time of the
year. Have a happy holiday season!
