Kids Birthday Party Ideas
Kids love birthday parties and, most of all, they love their own birthday party! Birthday
parties are full of: laughing, games, cakes, presents, party food, balloons and
celebrations. Birthday parties are special days full of fun, friends and families! They will
always be remembered by you and your child. A little bird told us some tips so that you
can throw your child the most amazing birthday party imaginable.
1. Choose an awesome theme for the party:
Let your little munchkin's imagination run absolutely wild. Spend a fun afternoon together
thinking of unique and fun-filled themes for their special day. You can get inspiration from their
favourite books, films, music or places they like visiting. Here's some inspired ideas to kick us
off:
It's a Circus Party: This one's perfect for boys and girls who just love entertaining others. You
can hang red and white strips of fabric from the ceiling to the wall to make the room look like a
circus tent! Play some fun music. Fill the room and garden with circus toys for the kids to try
and master, such as: a diabolo, stilts, hula-hoops, a makeshift typerope (e.g. a gym bench). You
can have clown facepainting going on and the family dog can even be dressed up as a lion!
Outside there can be a 'custard pie in the face' clown game for those who dare!
The Favourite Book Character Party: This one is super for kids of all ages. Here's some
possibilities for what your birthday girls and boys could dress up as:
◦ The caterpillar in The Very Hungry Caterpillar
◦ Willie Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
◦ The Gruffulo
◦ Tinkerbell from Peter Pan
◦ Winne the Pooh
Your kids will have almost as much fun making the costumes for their party as the day itself! For
younger kids, the party can include a time of reading some of the stories.
2. The Party Food
A little bird told us that, for many kids, the food is a key part of the party. Here are some of our
ideas for delicious, healthy party snacks:
◦ kids club sandwiches: three decker mini sandwiches filled with bacon, soft cheese and salad
◦ fruit and cheese sticks: you could include grapes, pears and berries
◦ savoury muffins
◦ breadsticks and humous
◦ pasta salad with cherry tomatoes
◦ fresh smoothies
◦ fruit kebabs with melted chocolate to dip them in: make your kebabs from berries and orange
segments
◦ strawberries and yoghurt
◦ birthday cake: there has to be cake at a birthday party! Match the cake with your party theme.
3. Party Games
◦ For the little ones: fill the room with bubbles! You can get a couple of bubble machines and
then play some funky music and the kids jump through the room popping as many bubbles as
they can! Bubbles made with sugar mixture last the longest.
◦ Build a marshmallow tower: divide into three teams and everyone has 5 minutes to build the
tallest marshmallow tower they can using only marshmallows and toothpicks! Perfect for kids
aged 9-12.
◦ It's a classic for a reason: pass-the-parcel. When the music stops, tear off a layer of wrapping
paper to find out if you've won a prize or if you have to do a dare!
◦ Messy donut fun: hang a donut, for each child who wants to play, at mouth height. The music
starts and everyone has until the end of the song to eat the donut without using their hands!
Teenagers will love this silly game.
◦ Be a Sardine: someone hides and, after counting to 20, everyone goes to find them. Once you
find the hidden person you have to hide with the in their hiding place. This game soon becomes
a squish!
◦ If you need a bit of peace and quiet: try Sleeping Lions. Everyone has to lay on the floor and
pretend to be fast asleep. Anyone who is caught moving is out.
◦ If it's a sunny day and the kids are full of beans then why not have a gigantic water fight with
water pistols, buckets and water bombs. Splish! Splash! Splosh!
◦ For little ones, you could have a Teddy Bear Hunt: with teddies hidden in the party room or
garden.
4. Extra Special Finishing Touches
◦ Teach the kids how to make balloon animals.
◦ Decorate the room with helium balloons or make a 'balloon arc' above the party food table.
◦ Make amazing party bags for the kids to take home with them at the end of the party: filled
with toys and food which have the party theme. For example, if you are throwing the spa party
then you could put bottles of nail varnish and hair clips in the party bag along with a sachet of
hot chocolate.
◦ For little ones, hire a fancy dress costume in the theme of their favourite character. Then Iggle
Piggle, Old MacDonald or Peppa Pig can feature as a special suprise guest at their birthday party.
What a memory!
◦ Ask a willing family friend to come and feature as an entertaining magician or DJ at the party.
◦ Decorate the room with: flags, balloons, banners and confetti.
◦ Compile a play list/CD with all your kid's favourite music to get the party atmosphere going!
