Spirituality
There have been many studies, by
many different professional organizations, performed over the years
on the effect of spirituality on the
health and well-being of seniors.
Those with an active spiritual life
have been shown to experience less
instances of physical disability, less
depression, longer life, better immune systems and lower blood
pressure. Many of our residents also experience these types of
benefits when coming to PrimAt Primrose,

As we enter into the heart of the
Christmas season, the importance
of spirituality in the lives of millions of seniors takes center stage.
In fact, 77% of seniors are members of churches, synagogues, or
other religious institutions. They
volunteer to help out in their
churches, they mentor people from
all walks of life in their communities, and they are passionate about
their beliefs.
I need nothing for Christmas
Dear Santa:
What do I ask this year? I have perused each ad in my
mailbox, pored over the colorful ads in the newspaper. So
many lovely things, and yet I need nothing.
I realize this as I walk up the hill on my strong legs. I can
hear the air fill my lungs. I feel the cold on my cheeks. I
smell the smoke of the fire that warms my home. I see the
snow-capped mountains and the slate gray river peppered
with fat geese. I need nothing: there are people who love
me. There are people who forgive my sometimes wretched
temper and who touch me with loving hands. There are
neighbors who smile in the store. There are shopkeepers
who are tolerant when I don’t have enough money. There
are kind faces in public places. All these things given me by
the Lord. Today I discovered a hole in my jeans. I felt the
December air slither down my leg. How mighty is the hand
that sweeps the wind along the mountains. Santa, dear old
soul, just give me another day like this one in my life.
Is Santa Clause Real?
For most children under the age
of 8 or 9, Santa Clause is absolutely real. How else do those presents get under the Christmas
tree. There are also all the movies, television commercials, and
special appearances at the mall. What more proof do
you need? As adults, we know that what Santa Clause
stands for is very real, and Jolly old Saint Nicholas was
an actual person. He really did leave presents for underprivileged children, he cared for the poor and the
unfortunate. The character, Santa Clause, is based on
an actually person, and his spirit lives on today. Is Santa Clause a real person? Yes he is, and he lives inside
all of our hearts. It’s up to us to listen to that voice
that’s telling us not to forget those in need, and not
just in December, but year round. Merry Christmas!
RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT
Jean and Joyce Steckmyer
were married on May
20th, 1949. They have
two children: Steven who
passed away suddenly in
2010, and Sharyn Curtis
who lives in Kalispell, MT.
They also have two grand
children. After they were
married, the couple
farmed near Chapman. They decided to try something
different, so they opened up the NAPA store in Central
City. After 19 years of running the store, they retired
to Texas for 12 years before moving into Primrose. The
Steckmyer’s are a wonderful addition to our family,
and we are thrilled they chose Primrose.
EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Ann Christensen is an LPN, and
has been with us now for a little
over a year. Ann and her husband Terry live in Central City.
They have three grown boys
and two grandchildren. Ann’s
husband is in the family cattle
business, as are two of their
son’s. Her hobbies include: antiquing, landscaping and flowers. She also enjoys horseback riding. Ann says she has
a passion for caring for the elderly and loves the relaxed atmosphere here at Primrose. She’s been an LPN
for 17 years. We are extremely happy and feel fortunate to have Ann on our team. Thanks for all you to
make Primrose the best Ann!
