Fourth Sunday of Advent: The Gospel of Mark gives no account of how Jesus
came to be born, so the lectionary turns to the Gospel of Luke for today’s reading.
The passage chosen – that of the Annunciation – recurs often on feast days of Mary
but, surprisingly, is only heard on Sunday once every three years, on this fourth
Sunday of Advent. Annunciation stories are a regular literary form: e.g. the birth of
Isaac, Samson, Samuel, and of course John the Baptist. In the Annunciation of the
birth of Jesus, however, there are elements that surpass all other annunciation
stories. The emphasis is on the creative power of the Holy Spirit, Mary’s complete
cooperation with God’s will, and it establishes Jesus’ transcendent origins. Mary’s
“yes” is the example for all disciples.
R.C.I.A. Rite of Welcome: this Sunday at the 9.30am Mass the parish community
is privileged to celebrate another of our candidate’s “yes” to God’s invitations. Nicole
Chan has been nurtured in her faith by her family, and strongly supported by her
husband Gavin, and sons Eden and Fallon. More recently her “yes” to God’s
presence has found expression in her learning more about the teaching and
traditions of the Catholic Church. Mila Bagtas is acting as the facilitator of this small
group. Kathleen O’Brien is warmly supporting her as her companion on this journey.
Malia Mar is the R.C.I.A. team member overseeing all with her wise presence. This
weekend at the 9.30am Sunday Mass at Graceville, the parish will pray our ongoing
support for Nicole and those who walk with her. This is an opportunity to remember
all those involved in the R.C.I.A. journey within our parish. God’s abundant
blessings on them as they proclaim their “yes” to God’s annunciations in their lives.
Priest to the Community: Prayer for the Catechist
Priest: You, the community of Christ the King, do you promise to help this
Catechist with her task of sharing our Catholic faith?
All:
We promise to support this Catechist of the R.C.I.A. We will
endeavour to help her to make known the Gospel message by giving example
to our faith by the way we live our lives.
The Celebrant addresses the assembled community.
Priest: And I ask you the church: Do you welcome Nicole and promise to be a
supportive and living sign of Christian faith to her?
All:
We do.
Priest: Let us pray together:
All:
Father of mercy, we thank you for this your servant, Nicole. You have
sought and summoned her in many ways, and she has turned to seek you.
You have called her today and she has answered in our presence: We praise
you, Almighty God and we bless you, through Christ our Lord. Amen
Sr Bernadette Aberdein PVBM farewell: Sr Bernadette has been a quiet and
faithful witness to the religious vocation from within the Presentation Sister’s
Convent at Graceville. She has been a member of the Graceville convent for
approximately 6 years. Her ministry has been within the parish, and stretched
beyond as a regular volunteer at Canossa hospital. Sister has also worked with
Catholic Psychiatric Pastoral Care and various charities in Brisbane. Sr Bernadette
has recently made the move across town to the village at Oxford Park. The parish
is extremely grateful for her witness to the religious vocation, to faithful feminine
discipleship, and her presence in our community. May the God who builds
“houses” (first reading), continue to be “a father to you, and you a daughter to him”.
May your new home be filled with “life, love and learning.” Christmas blessings as
we bid farewell, and Oxford Park welcomes you.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Carols 15 minutes before Eve Masses
Choir for 6pm Christmas Eve Mass: Practice Sunday 21 December at 3pm – see page 3 more details!
Sunday night Youth Pizza: on tonight, Sunday 21 December, immediately after 6pm Mass. Come and join the faithful
remnant who have not taken to the coast for summer respite. Instead refresh and refill yourselves with pizza at the parish
centre, Graceville. Young people, high school students and 18 – 35 year olds particularly welcome.
The Counters: the faithful crew who every Monday morning gather at the parish office to perform an essential task in keeping
the parish functioning. This jolly band of erudite mathematicians tally the collection so that the institution of treasury welcomes
the parish deposits. Unfazed by coin large or small, notes origami or flat, they go about their business with calculated
efficiency. The parish is not only very grateful, but truly dependent on their enumeration. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
Parish Finance Council: information on their tally of work for the year page 3 of newsletter. Again, lavish blessings on them.
WEDNEDSAY 8.30AM MORNING MASS ON AS USUAL THIS WEDNESDAY 24 DECEMBER
No mass on Friday 26th December.
Church Environment: Glory from on high to those who manicure our church grounds, are artistic with flowers, and inspiring
with design and colours. Glory to those who give us the aesthetic to celebrate the Good News, the revelation of a mystery kept
secret for endless ages, but now so clear it is broadcast for all to behold. (My apologies to Paul and his Letter to the Romans.
AND definitely our appreciation to these artisans and artists.)
Archbishop’s appointments: Notable in the recent Archbishop’s appointments is that Fr Paul Chandler (who is presently
ministering at Annerley Ekibin parish) has been appointed Administrator of Indooroopilly Parish from 1 February, 2015.
Yippee!! An early and delayed Christmas present for me. That means I continue as Administrator of Indooroopilly until the
first weekend in February, when Fr Paul takes over. I get to stay on this (good) side of the river again!!
Appointments made are: Fr Paul Chandler: Associate Pastor of Annerley Ekibin and Administrator of Indooroopilly; Fr Chima
Ofor: Parish Priest Petrie; Fr Peter Gablonski: Parish Priest Boonah; Fr Stephen Camiolo: Ass Pastor Burleigh Heads;

From the Parish Finance Council
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on the
Parish Finance Council for their support, ideas and hard work
in managing the Parish finances over the past 12 months. A
very special thanks to Fr Gerry for taking on and managing
the day to day things which made my role significantly less
demanding. Thanks also to Phil Dyson for ensuring the
Parish financials were not only accurate but presented in a
meaningful way. In looking back over 2014 we have
achieved quite a lot including:
* Finalised the JCCCCC and OSHC agreements
* Finalised the agreement between the Parish and School in
relation to the Hall
* Devised a new formula for allocating services to schools
based on usage
* Paid out the undercover area loan at St Joseph’s Church
* Approved the finance to fund the services of a Youth
Facilitator
* Thanks to Lindsay Wratten who has gone a long way in
completing the Parish Asset register
* Replaced the roof at Parish Centre at Graceville
* Repaired the external paintwork at both churches
* Plumbing repairs – fixed the guttering & leaking roof at St
Joseph’s Church
* Provided advice on the approval of the loan for the major
renovations to JCCCCC for $250,000
As this is my last meeting I would like to wish the Parish
Finance Committee all the best in serving this dedicated and
wonderful parish that is Corinda Graceville.
Regards, Jill Wainhouse
Thank You
Hereby we would like to thank Father Gerry and the Parish
very much for offering prayers for my husband, Fiaz, who
has been ill since the end of October. Now he is back home
from the hospital and his health has improved considerably.
He is back on his feet , can walk only for a short while, but
we are happy and thankful for every improvement. We have
been touched by so many prayers said for him and feel this
has greatly contributed to coping with his illness.
Thanking you once more very much, we wish you
and the parish a blessed Christmas time !
With regards ,
Mr and Mrs Fiaz Uddin (Ayesha Uddin's parents)

1. Hail, holy Mary, Queen of peace, O Maria!
O fragrance of God’s love increase, O Maria!
Mother, servant of God’s grace,
Womb for Christ, holy birthing place,
First disciple, we embrace: Salve, salve, salve Regina!
3. Hail, holy Mary, you inspire, O Maria!
With you, God’s presence we desire, O Maria!
Vision, wisdom, you instill,
You the “yes,” God’s holy will,
Faith and courage, you fulfil: Salve, salve, salve Regina!
4. Hail, holy Mary, strength and trust, O Maria!
O woman, singer for the just, O Maria!
Mother, model, faith supreme,
Pregnant bearer of God’s dream,
Peace and justice is your theme: Salve, salve, salve Regina!
SENDING FORTH: "THERE IS A LONGING"
Refrain: There is a longing in our hearts, O Lord,
for you to reveal yourself to us.
There is a longing in our hearts for love
we only find in you, our God.
4. Lord save us, take pity, light in our darkness.
We call you, we wait: be near, hear our prayer, O God.

NEWS FROM THE DEANERY…...
Monster Garage Sale Fund Raising Event - Thank You
I would like to express my deep appreciation of the efforts of
both our Parishes at Corinda Graceville and Darra Jindalee
for their great response to my request of supporting our
Monster Garage Sale fund-raising event last weekend.
We managed to raise $11,000 AUD for the needy refugee
children in Iraq. The money is on its way from Brisbane
Archdiocese directly to the account of the Holy See Embassy
in Iraq which will hand then personally to Sr Basima Gaggi
(from the Dominican Sisters in Iraq). Sr Basima is working
with the refugees, and is a refugee herself. A Big thank you to
our generous parishioners at both parishes, Fr Dan Carroll for
his continued support, Karl Morris for organising donations
and offering his ute for unlimited use, Michael Doherty for
helping in advertising and other logistics, St Joseph's Primary
School for offering the Hall. Also a great appreciation of the
huge efforts of many who helped in advertising, setting up,
sales and clean-up especially Pauline Thureson from Corinda
and many others who did the unknown. God bless you all.
