Today we reflect on God’s
often unexpected call to serve.
David is called to generate a
lineage and a kingdom that will
last forever. Mary is called to
bear a son to inherit this enduring kingdom. Neither
expected such call or envisioned the future. We
pray to be ready when God calls us.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
The child to be born will be called holy, the Son of
God. - Luke 1:35
Dear Parish Family,
The holy season of
Christmas is upon us. We celebrate God being born
in our midst. God has graced us by becoming human
like us in His son, Jesus.
Jesus is always challenging us to see him in one
another by the ways we serve others unselfishly and
respond to their needs. In many ways you have done
this. In our “Fall Food Drive” you lovingly fed Jesus
as you brought food for the hungry. In our “Good
Neighbor Project” you cared for needy families by
baking and buying cookies, and by adopting a number
of families during this holy season. In our “Mitten
Tree” and “Senior Snowman” programs you brought
Christmas gifts for many head start children and for
folks in nursing homes and shut-in senior citizens.
I thank God for you as you allow Christ to be born
again in your hearts and in your lives.
I am also grateful to you for all the prayers, the
cards, the gifts, the loving kindnesses you have
extended to me and our parish staff during the Advent
and Christmas seasons.
May God bless you and keep you in His love for
all the ways you’ve welcomed Him by your caring
and unselfish ways. Have a blessed Christmas and a
Holy and Happy New Year.
In the love of Christ,
Fr. Mike

Christmas 2014
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
“Today is born our Savior, Christ the Lord.” At the midnight Mass on Christmas, we together
proclaim this joyful truth, that what we have been preparing for throughout the season of Advent has been
brought to fulfillment. Let us rejoice and sing with the holy angels as we behold the Word of God, whom
the entire universe cannot contain, appearing as a little child in the manger. With the help of God’s grace,
may the peace and justice of Christ Jesus find room in our hearts and in our world during this coming New
Year.
During the Christmas season, we always remember and give thanks for our seminarians who are
discerning God’s call in their lives. Let us not forget to offer a special word of thanks to our religious sisters
and brothers during this Year of Consecrated Life. Through the example of their lives, they continue to
make visible the qualities of humility and filial obedience that the Son of God accepted when He entered our
world.
Finally, I would like to extend a personal invitation to all who may not be attending Mass on a
regular basis. I wish to welcome you to return here to your home and rediscover in the Eucharist the blessed
peace and good will of Jesus Christ.
Praying that you and your family have a most joyous and Merry Christmas, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend John R. Gaydos
Bishop of Jefferson City
