Votum Energy Solutions (Votum) is seeking to become the
solar energy provider for your house/company and will
provide the technological know-how, engineering

Votum Energy Solutions Sri Lanka is a subsidiary of Votum
Energy Australia which has been operating since 2010.

Ataraxia Capital Partners Limited, a diversified financial
services house based out of Sydney Australia, Votum
portrays sound expertise in the field of solar powered
renewable energy. The CEO of Votum Energy Solutions
Ananda Sebastian has many years of experience
internationally and is a highly regarded expert in the
renewable energy space.

Director
Errol Weerasinghe
Chairman
Errol Weerasinghe is a private investor and an
entrepreneur with diverse range of investment interests
over the years-from apparel, education, and infrastructure
to real estate, both in Sri Lanka and in the broader
Australasian region.
Between 1999–2001, Errol served as Chairman of the Board
of Sri Lanka's Garment Buying Offices Association - the
leading industry association representing the apparel
exporting industry's interest at a policy-making and
advocacy level. Over the same period, he also held a
position as Director of the Textile Quota Board - a
government commission overseeing the import and export
practices of apparel manufacturers. Errol is the Chairman
and CEO of Oryx Benodar Ltd and the Chairman of Colombo
Academy of Hospitality Management (Pvt) Ltd.
Ananda Sebastian
Director / CEO - Head Engineer
Ananda is a professional engineer with over 40 years of
experience in automation and power electronics, from
which he provides unique cost effective solutions to a wide
range of industrial sectors such as solar power, steel
manufacturing, paper milling, materials handling, cranes
production, food production, mining resources, tea
plantations, education and test rigging.
Prior to entering the law, Sharad was an analyst at a leading
investment bank in Sydney as part of their Fixed Income
and Commodities team, covering structuring advice on a
broad range of products from spot FX sales through to
derivative structures in commodities. Having worked
across jurisdictions with leading law firms including DLA
Piper & Allens Arthur Robinson, Sharad has advised a broad
range of clients including the Government of Abu Dhabi,
BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Ultra HNW individuals and private
equity houses. At Ataraxia Capital Partners he is the head
of investments, working with key stakeholders across the
group including clients, joint venture partners and
regulators.
Asanth Sebastian
Director
Asanth has many years experience in financial markets
having begun his career at UBS in equity derivatives and
structured products. At UBS Asanth worked on the trading
and structuring of many styles of structured products
particularly in the listed space. In 2007 Asanth joined the
Australian Stock Exchange as the Business Development
Manager for their warrants and structured products
business. At Ataraxia Capital Partners he heads funds
management and structured products team.
He has been working as the Engineering Manager for Alstom
Australia, Cegelec, GEC, Emerson and finally as the
Managing Director at Emerson for the last 14 years in
Australia. He was also working in Mining for Anglo American
as the Assistant Divisional Engineer and as works Manager
for Albion steel in Australia a steel mill systems designed
and installed with his leadership.

HOW A SOLAR SYSTEM WORKS?
Every day, Sunlight hits your roof with particles of
sunlight and the solar panels are made to capture the
energy created by those particles. The energy
converted through particles is known as direct current
("DC") electricity.
The DC electricity generated is sent through an inverter
which converts that "DC" power into alternating current
or ("AC") power.
AC power is the kind of electrical that your television,
computer, and other electric appliances use to switch
on.

WHAT IS NET METERING?
Net metering is a mechanism which allows residential
and commercial customers with solar energy systems to
feed extra electricity generated (Units) back into the
main grid (CEB/LECO).
Net metering use a billing mechanism that credits solar
energy system owners for the electricity units they fed
back to the grid. 1 KWH (unit) generated by the
customer has the same value as 1 KWH consumed by the
customer.
With the above mechanism 1 KWH generated by the
customer during the daylight hours is recorded in the
Net meter and is deducted by the KWH consumed
during the non daylight hours.
In order to measure units fed back to the gird and used
from the grid the CEB/ LECO will require all solar
installed clients to fix a New Digital Net Meter.

The Company
Founded in 1970, Santerno has been producing solar
inverters since 1985. The company has turnover of over 1.2
Bn Dollars and has over 4000 employees worldwide. To date

Commercial Solutions
A range of commercial solutions will be provided to corporate clients, this will include industrial solar installations 10 KWP
to 1.20 MWP. Also we will provide clients with energy audits, automation solutions for industry, and energy saving solutions
for Corporates. We will provide Corporates with a holistic overall green energy solution in order to reduce their overall
energy costs. This will include solutions to reduce the requirement of clients on diesel and fossil fuels.
An example of this is the conversion of 1000 Etisalat mobile phone towers to solar energy and the saving of fuel for the
South Asian Gateway Terminal (SAGT) and the automation of the tea industry.

QUESTIONS
How can I use the solar system when there
is a power cut?
You have to install a battery backed solar system to power
your house during a power cut.
What are the warranties that are available?
Inverter: Santerno offers 7 years International warranty
for their inverters and Votum Energy gives direct warranty
from Santerno to their clients. Further, santerno inverters
are easy to repair or replace due to its modular nature.
Panels: BYD offers 13 years of product warranty for the
panels and will replace with a new panel in case of damage
or defect. Further, BYD offers linear warranty for 25 years
for the performance where 90% performance is guaranteed
for the first 15 years and 80% for the next 10 Years.
Need a Booster?
What size system do I need?
The solar system size you need will depend on the monthly
usage of Kwh or number of units. Please contact us and we
can advise you on the system size that meets your
requirements.
Can I add panels later to generate more Kwh?
You can add panels to the system to generate more Kwh
provided your inverter has extra capacity to accommodate
the kwh produced or you will have to upgrade or install
another Inverter. If you foresee a higher usage of
electricity it's always advisable to install a suitable
inverter.
Votum Solar system does not need a booster as we use BYD
panels with 300w capacity when compared to 245w used by
other solar system vendors. With 245w panels, the number
of panels to be used will be higher, therefore it is necessary
to use a booster to uplift the performance of the panels
however, with 300w panel the number of panels to be used
will be minimum hence the booster is not required.
You can put a solar system on almost all roofs. It may be
more expensive to install a system on some roof types than
on others.
Why is Votum Solar so cost effective?
What is a payback period for solar?
The reason that Votum is so cost effective is because that
we are the exclusive distributors for BYD and Santereno
products in Sri Lanka. Votum directly buy the panels and
the inverters from the producer hence there are no
intermediaries involved. Also BYD is a vertically integrated
panel supplier therefore there is no added cost for the end
consumer through intermediaries.
The payback for your solar system depends on a few
variables such as size of the system, rate per unit
(Retail/SME/Industrial) and the average sun hours.
Generally, the payback will be around 3-5 years.
How many sun hours do I need for better
results?
The more sun your solar system gets the higher the
production will be. Generally we expect 4 ½ hours of sun to
produce the expected results and our engineers will install
the panels in such a way get the maximum sun hours.
Can you fix solar system to any type of roof?
What happens during cloudy and rainy days?
The system will produce even on cloudy and rainy days this
is due to the fact that solar generation is based on the rays
from the sun. There will however be a slight drop in
production on cloudy and rainy days.
What happens if lightning strikes a solar
panel?
Our solar panels are designed to withstand lightning.
How long solar roof do mounted systems last?
Generally solar systems are expected to produce
electricity for 35 to 40 years. BYD and Votum guarantees
that, in 25 years your panels will perform at 80%.
How would the system react to a power cut?
The Votum solar system will be automatically switched off
by the inverter if the grid power goes out, this is a must in
grid connected Net Metered systems to safeguard the grid
and the system. We can also look at a battery backup
system if required or alternate systems where we can
connect to an existing generator.
