It is inevitable that 2014 will see an increase in the importance of geospatial
information as a tool in decision and policymaking with governments at all levels,
all around the globe. Not least, thanks to high-level efforts by the United Nations
and the World Bank, supported by many organisations and learned societies in our
field, such as FIG, ICA, ISPRS, GSDI and IAG and, in particular, their specialists
who are lobbying for geomatics to take its rightful place in the palette of decisionsupporting tools. This is very good news for our business, because it is bound to
end up in an increasing demand for geospatial techniques and products, and even
geospatial professionals in the years to come. This process in which geomatics has
been maturing, and during which it will need to look beyond borders, has been
ongoing for the last few years and will not be finished in 2014. As I wrote last year
in this same place, our industry is an industry in transition, and this year I would
like to add: it will be for years to come. Good news: there is room for new products,

One-stop shopping
For 3D modelling, CICADE masters
all the techniques that need to be
combined: vertical photography for
the texturing of the terrain and the
roofs, image exterior orientation
through AT for superior accuracy,
stereoscopic restitution for outlining
buildings and roof structures, DTM
for the positioning of buildings on
the terrain, ortho-rectification and
mosaicing for the underlying terrain,
DSM for exact height of structures
above ground level and oblique
photography for façade texturing.
Superior 3D texturing
For the texturing of vertical surfaces
such as building fronts and sides, TRUE
OBLIQUE images (captured through
the central area of the objective) will
offer a much higher level of rendering
than oblique views extracted from
the edge of vertical imagery.
Unique oblique camera
Based on the Optech technology,
CICADE developed a unique Oblique
camera system by adjusting 6 camera
modules together so that vertical and
oblique images are acquired together
within one single camera. Each image
is acquired with the TRUE FMC and
TRUE COLOR systems that offer the
best-ever accuracy and radiometry.

Geo-Allen was founded in 2002 by
Mr. George Yuan and his team. - It is
located in Suzhou, 80km away from
Shanghai, a beautiful city with more
than 2500 years of history
Geo-Allen has a number of different
sections, including a R&D team, a
trading department, manufacturing
workshops and an after-sales-service
team. It created and registered
its own brand and logo, and has
also received the DNV’s ISO9001
certificate.
Its market now covers almost the
entire world, including western and
eastern Europe, North America,
South America, Asia, Africa, and
Oceania. It has established a high
reputation for best service, best
quality and best prices with its
customers.
Geo-Allen has never stopped
expanding and developing. Its
products now include GNSS, total
stations, theodolites, auto levels,
laser instruments, and almost
all kinds of accessories. Its R&D
department is capable of designing
and producing new products in a very
short period and it has also applied
for patents for some of its newly
designed products.
Since 2008, the surveying &
construction market has deteriorated
and has not yet fully recovered.
Despite a decreasing US dollar rate,
increasing raw material costs, and
increasing labour costs, Geo-Allen
is still confident of a bright future.

iXBlue’s innovative and broad
range of solutions is used in inertial
navigation, positioning, seabed
mapping and sub-bottom profi ling
applications.
ATLANS, a new cost-effective
geo-referencing and orientation
system, has been designed
specifically for land and airborne
mapping applications being
conducted within a limited budget.
Significantly, the unit is ITAR-free.
The user gets a compact, lightweight
gyrocompass and motion sensor that
consumes very little power and yet
provides all the required data for
demanding navigation, stabilisation
and control applications. ATLANS
can easily be integrated with
standard GNSS and DMI systems and
is effortlessly combined with most
commonly used fl ight management,
satellite tracking and mobile imaging
systems.
ATLANS is based on fibre optic
gyroscope (FOG) technology,

For terrestrial (static) scanning
RIEGL offers the VZ-400 (600m
range) and the VZ-1000 (1,000m
range) with the accompanying
software RiSCAN PRO. In
combination with the new software
package RiSOLVE – RIEGL’s
one-touch solution for 3D digital
scene capture - the VZ-400 is the
perfect choice for applications like
crash scene investigation.
The VZ-4000 (4,000m range) is
especially suited for open-pit mining;
complemented by RiMINING for
optimised and simplified data
registration and processing. The
ultra-long range VZ-6000 offers more
than a 6,000m measurement range
and is exceptionally well suited for
measuring snowy and icy terrain.
For mobile scanning RIEGL’s
VMX-system range is now extended
by two application-orientated
versions, the VMX-450-RAIL
for railway monitoring and the
VMS-250 for marine mapping. The
new software plugin RiPRECISION
MLS offers automatic adjustment of
mobile scan data, reducing the time
of post-processing significantly.
For airborne scanning RIEGL
offers a wide range of laser scanner
engines, like the proven LMS-Q780
for large scale, high altitude, complex
environment mapping. Moreover, the
LMS-Q1560 ultra high performance
fully integrated and calibrated dual
channel Lidar mapping system, a
single turnkey unit for challenging
airborne surveying missions, was
recently introduced.
For industrial scanning
applications, specific solutions like
the protective housing PH-400/1000
are available.

Zoller + Fröhlich
Zoller + Fröhlich is a pioneer
in terrestrial 3D laser scanner
development. The manufacturer from
South Germany is represented in over
40 countries with subsidiaries in the
UK, Italy and the US and numerous
sales partners weaving a global net

Zoller + Fröhlich has been developing
high-end measuring devices ever
since the early nineties. One of its
latest developments is an imager
with a fully integrated HDR camera.
The i-Cam is a low-noise CMOS
colour camera with a HDR panorama
function of 80 Megapixels. The
High Dynamic Range technology
guarantees the best balanced
colour imagery and makes it
possible to work even under very
difficult lighting conditions with
high contrasts. The HDR image is
generated from exposure series and
more lifelike than a single exposed
image. The laser class 1 scanner is
completely eye-safe and, due to IP 53
conformity, dust and water resistant.
Zoller + Fröhlich provides advanced
solutions for data pre-processing
and evaluation. Its LaserControl
software offers all the necessary
tools to manage scan jobs efficiently.
The user friendliness is constantly
being improved and enhanced by
new time-saving functions. There is
no longer any limit to the amount
of scans that can be registered. More
features, such as the “AutoCAD
interface”, a “Highcontrast Overlay
Image” and the new “Overview” mode
make LaserControl easier to handle
than ever before.
