NOTICE OF RACE
1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
1.2 RSS Appendix P, Special Procedures for Rule 42, will apply.
1.3 For Medal Races, ISAF Addendum Q, Umpired Fleet Racing, available on the ISAF website
(http://www.sailing.org), will apply and changes a number of racing rules. The version that is current when the
regatta begins will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.
1.4 The National Authority prescriptions will apply.
2 ADVERTISING
Boats may be required to display bow numbers and / or advertising chosen and supplied by the Organizing
Authority (OA).
3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 ISAF Eligibility according to ISAF Regulation 19 is required of all athletes.
3.2 Each athlete shall be registered as an ISAF Sailor on the ISAF website (www.sailing.org/isafsailor) and
affiliated to a Regional Sailing Federation or club in Brazil and in its Association Class.
3.3 The II Copa Brasil de Vela 2014 is open to boats competing in these events: RS:X (Men), RS:X (Women),
Laser Standard (Men), Laser Radial (Women), Finn (Men), 470 (Open), 470 (Women), 49er (Men), 49er FX
(Open) e Nacra 17 (Mixed).
3.4 The eligibility rules of each class will apply. The membership fee of each Brazilian Association Class can
be made at registration.
3.5 There is no limit or quota of entries to each event.
3.6 Eligible boats must be registered by email ([email protected]) or at Race Office filling the attached
Registration Form until 10:00h of 16 December 2014.
4 FEES
The entry fee paid until 30 November 2014 will be R$ 100.00 (one hundred reais) per sailor; and from 01 until
16 December 2014 will be R$ 150.00 (one hundred and fifty reais) per sailor.
5 FORMAT
5.1 For all classes, the event will consist of an initial series followed by Medal Race, subject to item 5.2.
5.2 Medal Race:
5.2.1 A Medal Race will be disputed if four or more races have been completed the initial series before
the day scheduled for the Medal Race. If fewer than four races in the initial series have been completed prior
to this, the initial series will continue in this day until complete the number of four races
5.2.2 There will be qualified to the Medal Race in each event, the best competitors ranked in the initial
series, as follows:
a) classes with 10 or more entries, the top 10;
b) classes with 9 or fewer entries, the top 5.
5.2.3 The designation of the competitors qualified for the Medal Race will be made based on available
results at 08: 00h of the day scheduled for this regatta. The Protest Committee may extend this limit.

5.3 For all races in the series and also to the criteria for the "Medal Race" will have the same start signal and
courses the events as follows:
a) 49er Men and 49er FX Open.
b) 470 Open and 470 Women.
5.4 There will be also a single score, with a single general classification the following grouped classes:
a) 49er Men and 49er FX Open.
b) 470 Open and 470 Women.
5.5 Other formats may be used as duly authorized by CBVela and published in the Sailing Instructions.

6.2 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race each day is at 13:00h. The time limit signaling
starting Medal Races on 20 December 2014 will be at 18:00h.

6.4 Three races are scheduled per day for each class, and if necessary, an extra race may be sailed if it’s not
advance the planned program.
7 EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
7.1 All boats and their equipment must be presented for inspection at the venue from 09:00h of 13 December
2014 until 18:00h of 15 December 2014.
7.2 The boats must have your proof of regularity or certificates submitted to the Race Office before the entry
deadline.
7.3 Any boat or equipment may be inspected at any time during the event.
8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Will be available in the Race Office at registration on 13 December 2014.
9 VENUE

9.1 The regatta will be at San Francisco Beach, located at Quintino Bocaiuva Avenue - São Francisco Niterói/RJ.
9.2 The race areas will be in Guanabara Bay and its proximity. There will be race areas rotation for all classes.
10 THE COURSES
The courses will be Windward/Leeward or Trapezoid.
11 PENALTY SYSTEM
11.1 RSS Appendix P, Special Procedures for Rule 42, will apply.
11.2 The decisions of the Jury appointed by the Organizing Authority will be final in accordance with rule 70.5
(b).
11.3 For the Nacra 17, 49er e 49er FX events, RRS 44.1 and RRS P2.1 are changed so that the Two-Turns
Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
12 SCORING
12.1 RRS Appendix A will apply. RRS B8 is deleted.
12.2 A minimum of 04 (four) races is required to be completed to constitute a regatta.
12.3 When 05 (five) races have been completed, there will be no discard. When 06 (six) or more races have
been completed, a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores, excluding her worst score.
12.4 In medal races, a boat’s score shall be double the number of points specified in RRS Appendix A4.1, and
the score for that race shall not be excluded from the series score.
12.5 Ties in the series score between boats with different medal race point scores shall be broken in favour of
the boat that scored better in the medal race. This changes RRS Appendix A8.
12.6 The boats assigned to compete in the medal race will be ranked highest in the regatta except for a boat
disqualified from the medal race under rule RRS 5 or 69.
12.7 A boat assigned to compete in the medal race shall make a genuine effort to start, sail the course and
finish. A breach of this paragraph will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes rule RRS 60.1(a).
The penalty for a breach of this paragraph will be ranking the boat as the last boat in his Medal Race.
13 COACH BOATS AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL
The support boats must be registered with the Race Office of the Event.
14 BERTHING
Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the boat park.
15 RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
Except in an emergency or using equipment provided by the Organising Authority, a boat shall not make or
receive radio transmissions including text messages or cellular phone calls while Racing.
16 PRIZES
Medals will be awarded to the top 3 boats in each event.
17 MEDIA RIGHTS
By participating in the event competitors automatically grant to the Organizing Authority, their sponsors and
ISAF the right in perpetuity to make, use and show, from time to time at their discretion, any motion pictures
and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of the athlete during the period of the competition
without compensation.

18 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. Neither the
Organizing Authority nor ISAF will accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained
in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
