All of our fittings are manufactured from solid bar ensuring their structural integrity - no welding or casting. 01 cable systems cable systems Structural Cable Systems allow a reduction in diameter from traditional steelwork, minimising visual impact of supportive structures and maximising light and space within the building. cable tension members Cable Tension Members are typically used to span long distances or in applications where the bend in the cable is used to provide tension to whatever is attached along its length - for example Catenary Cable Systems, Bow Truss/Bow Strut Glass Supports, Cable Net Structures and Tensile Fabric Structures. We do all of our manufacturing in-house so we have the ability to design and make specific parts to project requirements from a wide range of materials; Stainless Steels (including Duplex and PrecipitationHardening), Aluminium Bronze, Nitronic, Aluminium and Titanium. We can provide parts with a wide range of specialised coatings for specific site conditions including anodizing, PVD, galvanising and Xylan (Teflon). Manufacturing takes place at the Petersen Stainless Rigging factory in Blaydon, England where the Quality Management System is certified by Lloyd’s Register to ISO9001:2008 and to the Aircraft Industry Standard AS9100 rev C the scope of which covers all activities including design and manufacture. Compression terminals are suited to applications where the exact final length are to determine or where the cable is designed to pass through intermediate steelwork such as balustrade posts or Solar shading screens. Sta inl e s s Ste e l A r c hi te ctu r a l Te n sion S y s t em s 10 TENSION BAR SYSTEMS TENSION BAR SYSTEMS are used in lightweight structures where high stiffness tension members are required. Our standard 316 Tension Bar systems consist of a threaded stainless steel bar terminated with SBS-450 fork clevis adjusters at each end which allow a generous amount of adjustment. The SBS-450 fork clevis ends and double head clevis pins are designed in accordance with BS5950-1:2000, EN 1993-1-11:2006 and EN 1993-1-8:2005 and are machined - not cast - from a high-strength duplex stainless steel. The tension bar system is normally supplied with one left hand and one right hand threaded end. After installation the Tension Bar can be rotated to set the correct length and locked using tapered lock cover nuts. 316 Tension Bars are manufactured from specially drawn bar-stock with rolled threads. Tension Bar systems are available in up to 6m single lengths, couplers can be used to span further. About Nitronic 50 Rod: The Petersen rod system offers a hybrid solution combining the benefits of stainless steel cable and solid bar. Size for size rod is stronger than cable and has much lower stretch. The tensile strength of rod is almost double that of 316 bar allowing for a huge reduction in self-weight and visual impact. Rod can also be supplied in virtually any length and can be coiled for ease of transport. Rod can be bent round fixed points on structures such as bow-struts reducing the steelwork required. The combination of its low-profile and high strength makes rod the lightest and most elegant solution available for the support of large glazed areas and other modern structures. In architectural rigging, ‘bar’ is the name given to a solid tendon of 316 stainless which would normally be terminated by a threaded fork end. ‘Rod’ is the term in rigging used to describe a solid tendon of high-strength Nitronic 50 alloy stainless steel. This alloy was developed for performance rigging applications to meet the demands for steel with high tensile strength and better corrosion resistance than 316. Rod systems have been installed on a number of notable structures over the past 20 years allowing architects to create very fine structures which maximise light and space. Attaching the Fittings: Petersen rods are terminated by using hydraulic pressure to form a head which sits inside a special ‘seat’ in the fitting. The process of forming the head is called ‘cold heading’ and results in a termination as strong as the rod itself. Although the relation of the head and seat geometry must be very tightly controlled we can form seats in a wide variety of different end fittings making the Petersen rod system the most versatile in the market. 11 Assembly b1 The System Tension Bars, also known as Tension Rods, Tie Bars and Tie Rods, are manufactured in the UK by Petersen. Tension Bar systems consist of a threaded stainless steel tie terminated with an SBS-450 fork clevis adjuster at each end. The pins are designed in accordance with BS 5950-1:2000 and EN 1993-1-8:2005. All components are produced in accordance with our quality systems. Bar lengths are available up to 6m. Lengths exceeding 6m are also available by utilising a bar coupler. All accessories are finished to a N4 standard (240 grit satin) other finishes are available on request. The pins are designed in accordance with BS 5950-1:2000 and EN 1993-1-8:2005. All components are produced at our manufacturing facility in the North of the England using the latest technology in CNC equipment and produced in accordance with our quality systems . Bar lengths are available up to 6m. Lengths exceeding 6m are also available by utilising a bar coupler. All accessories are finished to a N4 standard (240 grit satin). Bars are produced to a bright drawn finish. **NOTE** If the forks are at maximum adjustment then half a diameter of thread will be visible after the Taper Nut has been fully tightened.
