FREE PRESS GUJARAT Thursday, December 18, 2014 www.egujaratitimes.com Sony Pictures CEO consulted U.S. State Department on film, leaked emails show The head of Sony Pictures consulted with a senior official in the U.S. government in June this year, days after North Korea threatened "merciless countermeasures" over the release of an upcoming film featuring a plot to assassinate leader Kim Jong Un, leaked emails show. In an internal email seen by Reuters and dated June 26, Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Lynton said he told Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Daniel Russel the studio was "concerned for the safety of Americans and American and North Korean relations." U.S. officials have cast doubt on a threat against theatres planning to show the film but police across the United States said they would take extra precautions. Sony executives told theatres the studio would not pull the comedy. The note was part of a series of leaks from unidentified hackers who have exposed thousands of internal documents and emails to public scrutiny. Reuters has not been able to verify the authenticity of the documents, though Sony has confirmed that at least some are authentic. "I explained that we wanted to act in a responsible fashion and that the film was designed to entertain Nostrilin Nasal Spray For fast relief of stuffy nose Nasal sprays are commonly used to treat common colds, nasal congestion or blockage due to cold, dryness in the air or dehydration of the nasal canal. Sony Pictures parent Sony Corp declined to comment on Lynton's exchange with Russel. The U.S. embassy in Seoul referred Reuters to the State Department in Washington, which did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. Higher ICT budgets required for faster conversion of existing cities into Smart Cities Ahmedabad, Schneider Electric India – the global energy management specialist and leader in energy efficiency – cited the latest India Infrastructure Research report titled ‘ICT in Urban Governance – Survey’ to stress that higher ICT budgets were required for faster conversion of existing cities into Smart Cities. With civic agencies in 53 cities across India responding to the survey, the report revealed ICT adoption among cities varied according to their size, requirements, financial resources and approach to ICT by the city’s Municipal Commissioners and IT heads. In the case of municipal budgets too, these varied widely across cities from less than INR 500 million to more than INR 30,000 million. For 2014-15, about 38% of the civic agencies had municipal budgets exceeding INR 10,000 million. Of these, 73% (eight civic agencies) had budgets of more than INR 20,000 million. Another 21% of respondent civic agencies had budgets ranging be- tween INR 5,000-10,000 million. Around 80% allocate less than 1% of their budgets to ICT. Only 12% of the civic agencies had ICT budget allocations of 1-1.5%. In contrast, about 2% allocate more than 5% of municipal budgets towards ICT. IT budgets are largely financed via municipal revenues, followed by state government funding. More than 55% civic agencies said the entire IT budget (100%) is funded through municipal sources. Stressing the importance of higher budget allocations and prudent spends on ICT, Anil Chaudhry, Country President and Managing Director, Schneider Electric India, said: “The present Government’s vision of building 100 Smart Cities will be contingent upon the efficient adoption of ICT solutions. In turn, this needs support at the ground level, along with robust budget allocations for ICT. Accordingly, spends should be increased and allocated budgets spent judiciously for the Government’s vision of Smart Cities to become a reality.”(1) 3 day Agarbatti Tech Expo2014 from 19th at Ahmedabad The revenue increased by 66% of Ahmedabad Division Ahmedabad, Senior officials of Gujarat Agarbatti Manufacturers & Dealers Association (GAMDA) today announced the details of forthcoming India’s Largest 3 day Agarbatti Tech Expo 2014, an international exhibition which is being organized for the benefit of Agarbatti Manufacturers, Perfumers, Traders and Aromatic Chemicals and which is starting from 19th to 21st December 2014 at Sanskar Kendra, Paldi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Lufthansa was seeking a buyer for the unit, which provides data centres, networks and telephony, because it requires a high level of investment and economies of scale, which the airline could not provide. "The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns given the very limited overlaps between the parties' activities and the presence of several strong alternative players that would remain active after the merger," the EU executive said in a statement. The deal, which was announced on October, will result in a one-off pre-tax charge of 240 million euros (190 million pounds) for Lufthansa. It will allow Lufthansa to reduce its an- pected to commence operations in the coming months, subject to the necessary approvals and statutory procedures. “Since the first development in the 1970s, Hitachi has participated in every HVDC project in Japan and has continued to underpin the stabilization of the electricity grid. I am confident that the establishment of a new company combining the strengths of Hitachi and ABB will provide a framework for the timely provision of the new technologies required by the Japanese HVDC market. By enhancing and expanding the HVDC business through its partnership with ABB, which has a strong performance record in the global market, Hitachi will continue to contribute to the stabilization of Japan’s electric power grid.” said Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chairman & CEO of Hitachi, Ltd.
