CHRISTMAS DAY
Friday 26th December
Boxing Day
A great turnout of concerned
local residents gave the Shire
of Campaspe a strong message
that the Stanhope pool must
remain open well into the
future.
Almost one hundred Mothers,
Fathers, Grandparents and young
folk made their concerns very
clear the pool is not to close, at a
meeting at the pool last Thursday
evening.
Amongst the many suggestions
for the Council to reduce costs
was
the
standout
recommendation
the
management of the pool be
returned to a local community
committee, instead of being
managed by the Council.
Reasons
behind
this
recommendation were many,
including flexibility for a local
committee to vary opening hours,
set various entry fees, hold a
variety of sporting events as well
as community events eg. pool
parties etc. and cater for special
groups eg. Seniors.
Councils Decision.
It is now a matter for the Council of
the Shire of Campaspe to adopt
these many recommendations, as
nothing was decided or finalised at
the meeting last Thursday evening.
It’s been a long time since there were
so many cars in the car park at the
pool.
Some of the large crowd of concerned
locals.
A community committee should
also be able to decide to hold
swimming and/or life saving
lessons if deemed appropriate.
The committee could also
encourage schools and clubs to
use the pool more often for
various activities.
There was strong support for the
return of inflatable's and the BBQ,
which was removed by the
Council, although they had been
paid for by the Stanhope
community.
Some of the children enjoying their
first swim for the
year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS STANHOPE
MEN’S SHED OFFICALLY
OPEN
Andrew Johnson, president of the Stanhope &
District Men’s Shed, told the audience of the great
amount of support from committee members and
volunteers in bringing the shed up to its present
state. Also the amount of effort by some in
obtaining grants and gifts from various sources.
Andrew then invited Mr Paul Weller to officially
open the Stanhope & District Men’s Shed.
Mr Weller spoke at length about the benefits of the
Men’s Shed movement throughout Victoria and
across Australia and how Men’s Sheds are fully
supported by governments of all persuasions. He
encouraged local men and women to become
involved with the Stanhope Men’s shed, before
unveiling a plaque and cutting a ribbon to declare
the shed officially open.
The audience then enjoyed a very scrumptious
afternoon tea provided by the McEwen C.W.A.
ladies.
The four speakers at the opening were L to R. Bob
Holschier, Paul Weller, Andrew Johnson
and Rob Butler.
The Stanhope & District Men’s Shed was
officially opened by the retiring member for
Rodney, Mr Paul Weller on Sunday 23rd
November 2014.
A very large audience inspected all that has been
done at the shed in Tivey Grove to bring it up to the
standard required by the Campaspe Shire.
Paul Weller cutting the ribbon

PRODUCE THE “ABOUT TOWN” THROUGHOUT
THE YEAR.

They then listened to Bob Holschier, secretary of
the Stanhope & District Development Committee
(S&DDC) relate the initial moves the S&DDC made
to kick start the introduction of a Men’s Shed for
Stanhope, including negotiations with Goulburn
Valley Water to obtain a lease on the Tivey Grove
shed.
Mr. Rob Butler, an executive member of the Men’s
Shed Association of Victoria related many facts
about Men’s Sheds throughout Victoria, both in the
Melbourne area and throughout country Victoria.

STANHOPE
PLANNING GROUP
Toilets a Step Closer
STEVEN’S ANTICS
The Stanhope Planning Group Steering Committee is
proud to release the final Design which has been
chosen for the New Toilet Block & Art Space.
The design will be constructed in low maintenance
materials, such as coloured aluminium or steel along
with a black reflective mirror finish of the Oval Roof
Structure. The Art Space will enable us to display
local memorabilia as well as local arts & crafts.
The Campaspe Shire has earmarked $199,000 in the
current budget already for the toilet block and has
assured us that if we are unsuccessful in our $189,000
Victorian Regional Growth Fund Grant which was
been applied for to go towards our Hub
Revitalisation Project they will commit the amount
out of Shire funds. Steph Ryan will continue to fight
for the grant even though the Coalition was not
re-elected. In last week’s State election. The
Regional Growth Grant will go towards the access
paths, landscaping, business and tourism signage
and also an upgrade to the ‘Birdwood Ave Main
Street’ with new street furniture, footpaths and
updated plantings.
Our current timeline is hopefully to commence this
project by April/May 2015. Our Project manager,
Shane Stacey is currently working on getting
contractor quotes and working with Shire to put this
job into the current years Capital Works Program.
Cool off for Summer.
Yep, we’ve already had a few hot days, so I’ve been
practising cooling off by getting under the sprinkler
whenever it’s been a bit hot. It not only cools me down,
but also helps keep me clean, cos I get a bit dirty you
know; some of the places I have to get are fairly grimy
and greasy and it gets on my feathers, so these showers
are just what I need.
You know – I just love chewing rubber. Recently I had a
go at a tyre on a bike belonging to a well-known bike
restorer. I don’t think he was very happy that I put a
couple of holes in his tyre. You know it’s not the first tyre
I’ve done some damage to. I also love chewing on the
rubber around car windscreens and that could get me into
lots of trouble, cos it’s very costly to get them fixed, I
am told. Maybe I should think about going for a holiday
again.

benefits of youth sponsorship as the two young
