Frosty says, “There is still time to give to the 2014 Christmas Fund. The last day to give
is Friday, November 28th. For all those who have already given, thanks for your generous
gifts. As of 11/14/14, we have received $20,203! This sends shivers up and down my back.”
Be sure to check MCV-TV or the Frosty display at the front entrance for the final Christmas
Fund total. Also, be sure to enter the Christmas Fund contest. Entries can be submitted until the close of business on Wednesday, November 26th. Just drop it in the contest box at the
Frosty table. The entry closest to the actual final amount will win a $25 Kraemer Kaffe gift certificate. Don’t
forget to attend the joint resident /employee Christmas open house on Friday, December 12th in the Chapel.
Join in the festivities anytime between the hours of 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. There will be plenty of Christmas treats,
music and fun as we distribute gift checks to the employees.

The Christmas Fund Committee
Dear Residents,
On Monday, 11/17 I received a letter of resignation from Brian Gibboney. Brian has accepted a
position with Masonic Homes as their COO.
We wish Brian much happiness and success in
his new position, and thank him for the positive
contributions he has made to our organization.
A decision regarding the vacancy created by
Brian’s departure has not yet been made. I ask
for your prayers as I contemplate our best way forward.
May God bless you, and may you experience
great joy during this wonderful Thanksgiving and
Christmas season.

Have You Met…
Judy Oliger 7305 Village Dr.
Judy was born in St. Bernard and attended St.
Clemens until the 5th grade, moved to Finneytown
and attended St. Vivians, and graduated from Mt.
Note Dame High School.
She then attended Miami University in Oxford, and
her Junior and Senior years she had a Cadet Certificate, which meant she was paid as a teacher and
went to night school and summer school and finished
her degree. She taught 5th and 6th grades at Reading
Hilltop Elementary for 7 years, which was where she
met her husband, Ed, at a party, and they were married in less than a year. They purchased a home in
Forest Park and both worked in the Greenhills
School District. They had two sons, and Judy stayed
home for 5 years until the boys were in school. They
enjoyed traveling by car with their boys, all over the
United States.
Judy and Ed both taught full-time, and Judy retired
after 30 years of teaching and Ed after 34 years. For
the next 8 years they enjoyed traveling and some
Elderhostel trips, and have been in 48 of the 50
States. Their sons are both married, and they are
blessed with 5 grandchildren. Ed loved baseball, and
after retirement he umpired for the Roy Hobbs Senior
League World Series. He died at age 65, after battling a rare blood disease for two years.
After retirement, Judy worked for 6 years at a Data
Recognition Center (DRC), scoring Standardized
State Tests. She is now volunteering to help kids get
their GED’s, and she’s planning a trip to Alaska next
summer with friends.
She’s enjoying her home here on Finch cul-de-sac!

Time to Dine-out
The MCV Health Care Auxiliary exists for the
purpose of enhancing the living situation of the
Health Care residents. And you have an opportunity to participate in that purpose by getting together with your friends and family to “dine out.

Tuesday, 5456 Kings Center Drive, 11 a.m. – 11
p.m.

one or all three of the above dates and support
our Health Care Facility. On these dates 20% of
all sales totaled by guests presenting the GiveBack flyer (enclosed) will be given to MCV HCF.
Extra flyers are at the reception desk for your use
and to give to family and friends. Help make this a
huge success.

In the Doctors Clinic
Dear residents and staff,
Kathy and I want you to know that at this blessed
time of year we are thinking of you and your families,
and wish you the very happiest of Christmas Holidays.
Our lives continue to be enriched and our hearts
blessed beyond description in the service of CBA and
communities. We look forward to what our Lord has
in store for us in the years to come.
May God bless you, and let us thank Him earnestly for the greatest gift of all, the gift of His dear Son
and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Residents Association
The Residents Association meeting for December will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December
3, in the Chapel. We will again be blessed by
Elaine Santos and the Mason High School choir
groups displaying their beautiful and joyful musical
talents. May we all share the joy of the Lord as we
celebrate His birth.
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4).
Merry Christmas!

“Today in the city of David, a Savior has been born to you;
he is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
Revelation 21 and 22 will be the topic of our final Bible Study Lesson of 2014 on December 3 at 10:00
AM in the chapel. Our Bible Studies will resume after the New Year begins. Be watching this column for
details in the January edition of the Village News.
Our Encouragement Group meets every Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Craft Room. This Grief Support
Group encourages everyone who attends who has suffered a loss of any kind: the passing of a spouse or
family member, the loss of sight or mobility, the loss of driving privileges or a move from a home to a garden
home or garden apartment. The hour is spent talking with each other with one thing in common: we are
restructuring our lives following loss. Come and join us! I think you will be glad you did. You will go away
encouraged.
Devotionals for December, January, and February are now available. “Our Daily Bread” devotional booklets for the next three months are here and can be picked up at the literature table or on tables outside the
chapel. New this quarter are large print copies of this booklet. Just ask me and I will give you a large print
edition. What a blessing these booklets are to our spiritual lives!
Special Christmas Eve Service at 11:00 AM on December 24. Come to the chapel on Christmas Eve
Day and sing Christmas carols. Enjoy special music and a Christmas devotional thought as we celebrate the
greatest gift ever given: our Savior Jesus.

Fun Bunch
December Outings
Join us on Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m.
in the Chapel for our Christmas Fun Bunch. Tom
White will provide the entertainment for the evening. The cost is $10 and the RSVP date will be
12/3. This is always a popular event and attendance will be limited to 72.
Dinner & Lights – Join us on Tuesday, December 9, at 4:30 p.m. for dinner and a trip to Sharon
Woods to see the Christmas light display. The
“lights” part of the trip requires no walking as we
will be driving through Sharon woods to see this
holiday tradition. The cost is $4, plus your meal,
and the RSVP date is 12/3.
At the Manger - The collections of the University of Dayton’s Marian Library/International Marian
Research Institute include thousands of Nativities
from around the world that reflect a variety of customs and traditions. Depicting the story of Christ’s
birth and presence, these crèches are expressions
of how Christianity has shaped the culture and faith
of people all over the world. During each Christmas
season, a new group of sets is selected from their
large and diverse crèche collection to be exhibited.
We will depart at 9:00 a.m. from the Fireside
Lounge on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The cost of the
trip is $5, plus your meal, and the RSVP date is
12/3.
Sharon Woods Quilt Show - We will visit this
quilt exhibit featuring 13 quilts from the local quilting community on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The Heritage
Village quilters loaned ten of the quilts, and the
other three are recent acquisitions to their collection. These quilts date from the late 1800's to 2007
and include patterns such as, “Drunkard’s Path”,
“Capital T”, and “Irish Chain”. The cost of the trip
is $5, plus your meal, and the RSVP is 12/3.
Young’s Dairy & Clifton Mills—On Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 3:30 p.m. we will head to Young’s
Dairy for a great home cooked meal. Following
dinner, it is off to Clifton Mill where the Christmas
season is celebrated in a very special way. Their
light display, featured in Midwest Living and Ohio
Magazine, is one of the country's finest with over
3.5 million lights illuminating the mill, the gorge, the
riverbanks, trees and bridges. There is even a 100
foot "waterfall" of twinkling lights. The flip of one
switch turns all the lights on at once transforming
night into a fantastical winter wonderland which
includes a Miniature Village, a Santa Claus Museum , a toy collection and a spectacular synchronized lights and music show that features the old
Covered Bridge. The cost of the trip is $15, plus
your dinner, and the RSVP date is 12/3. Please
note that Clifton Mill is an outdoor WALKING trip
on gravel.
Giving Back
Santa’s Workshop
On December 3, our Giving Back program will
take a bit of a different direction and turn into Santa’s Workshop. From 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in
the Chapel, residents and staff will have an opportunity to work together to make a big difference in
as little as five minutes. We recently received a
sizeable donation of fleece but none of it was
large enough to make the Project Linus blankets
so the thinking caps went on as to the possibility
of a different project. Lo and behold, the scraps
are the perfect size to make scarves to donate to
individuals through local assistance agencies.
There is no sewing involved – just a simple cut
and knot that most anyone can help with. All you
need to do is stop by and spend a few minutes to
help keep someone else warm this winter.
Open Workshops
Stop by the Craft Room on Monday, December 1 from 10:30 a.m. until noon to craft some
very easy Christmas cards or gift tags. Then on
December 17 from 10:30 a.m. until noon, we
hope you’ll stop by again to make some simple
Christmas ornaments. Everything you need for
either workshop will be supplied and no reservation is necessary.
Carolers on Campus
On December 23, be sure to be on the lookout for a horse drawn carriage with carolers making their way throughout the Village between
5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Following the caroling, you
are invited to the Chapel for refreshments and a
special concert with members of the Southern
Gateway Chorus at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
The Mystery Lunches and Lunch Around the World
will return in January.
Wellness Works!
The holidays offer a perfect opportunity for enjoying loved ones, celebrating life, being grateful, and reflecting on what’s important. They are also a time to appreciate the gift of health. Support health and safety
for yourself and others by following these timeless holiday tips:
Wash your hands often.
Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading
germs to others. Wash your hands with soap and clean running water, rubbing them for at least 20 seconds.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have tissue, cough or
sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands.
Stay warm!
Handle and prepare food safely.
As you prepare holiday meals, keep yourself and your family safe from food-related illness. Wash hands and
surfaces often. Avoid cross-contamination by keeping raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs (including their
juices) away from ready-to-eat foods and eating surfaces. Cook foods to the proper temperature. Refrigerate
promptly. Do not leave perishable foods out for more than two hours.
Eat healthy, and be active.
With balance and moderation, you can enjoy the holidays the healthy way.
 Choose fresh fruit as a festive and sweet substitute for candy.
 Limit fats, salt, and sugary foods.
 Find fun ways to stay active, such as dancing to your favorite holiday music.
 Be active for at least 2½ hours a week.
 Come to the Mason Christian Village MAC-Wellness Center for an updated workout routine!

MCV Christmas Card
It is once again time to gather greetings and
wishes for MCV’s Annual Christmas Card. For
our new residents, each year we collect Christmas greetings from residents and staff, and
combine them into a booklet for all to enjoy. It is
a great alternative to sending individual cards to
others in the Village. Included with this issue is a
form for you to use to write your Christmas
greeting to the Village. Completed forms must
be turned in to the front desk by Wednesday,
December 10, for your greeting to be included in
this year’s card. The cards will be distributed on
December 19 with your next issue of the Village
News. Please contact Linda at 701-3414 if you
have any questions.
A Great Christmas Gift Idea
Looking for a unique Christmas gift this holiday
season? Consider giving one or both of our CEO’s
vocal CDs entitled, A Classic Christmas and Moments With the Master. The best part is that when
purchasing one of these CDs the full purchase
price of $15 is a gift to the CBA Foundation’s Compassionate Care Fund, which provides financial
subsidy for qualifying residents struggling to cover
the full cost of their care and housing. It’s the gift
that keeps on giving! CD’s are available at the
CBA office or the Kraemer Kaffe.
Auxiliary News
Thanks to everyone who attended the Auxiliary sponsored Craft Boutique and Bake Sale on Nov. 1. The
Bake Sale sold out – thanks to all of you who provided so many goodies. There were 35 vendors/crafters
which included a used book sale table. These books were duplicates or extras from our Village library. Thanks to those of you that purchased some books, $74.75 was turned over to the CBA.
Please put the Auxiliary meeting date on your 2015 calendar...January 19th at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel. There will be installation of officers, a final report on the Craft Boutique and a discussion about the May
Flower Sale. We look forward to seeing many of you at Ruby Tuesdays at our December “dine out”.
