The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas is the
exclusive provider and guardian of the community blood supply
for more than 38 medical facilities in the 10-county service
area of Central Texas. Volunteers assist on blood drives, serve
refreshments in donor centers, provide office support and
transport blood product in the center’s vehicles.

Alzheimer’s Association–Capital of Texas Chapter
seeks to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, and to enhance care and support for those
with the disease, their families and caregivers. Volunteer opportunities vary.
Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas—North
Austin is a nonprofit organization created by breast cancer
survivors. The center exists to serve women with breast cancer,
their families and support systems, women who have questions
about screening and biopsy, and others in the community who
are concerned about breast cancer issues.

Austin Atheists Helping the Homeless is a group of
secular volunteers who collect, sort and distribute basic living items to people who are homeless at monthly giveaways.
ATXAHH is 100 percent volunteer based. Many of its volunteers
also knit or crochet items to be given away at the giveaways—
washcloths for the summer and hats and scarves for the winter.

Austin Dog Alliance is a nonprofit organization provid-
ing vocational training for adults with special needs, training
PTSD service dogs for veterans and training handler-dog
teams for local hospitals, rehabilitation centers and nursing
homes, schools and libraries. Volunteers assist with programs
including summer camps, dog rescue and training and office
management. Volunteers also visit hospitals, nursing homes
and schools with their dogs.

Austin LifeCare Northwest offers a variety of free services
to families experiencing unplanned pregnancies, such as
pregnancy tests, limited ultrasounds, resource and spiritual
counseling, education and mentoring. Clients can obtain material assistance through the Earn-While-You-Learn program. Volunteer opportunities include peer counseling, office assistance
and client mentoring.

Camp Agape Bereavement Camp for Children is a
summer camp program designed specifically for children
ages 7–12 who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The free,
Christian-based service offers all the fun experiences of a typical summer camp along with group therapy activities to assist
children with their bereavement process. Volunteer opportunities include serving as camp buddies and other functions at
camp.

Equine Rehabilitation of Central Texas works to improve
the lives of abused and neglected horses as well as individuals
with disabilities. Volunteers walk with horses, help in the barn
and complete special projects.

Friends of the Cedar Park Public Library is a nonprofit,
supportive group of volunteers established in September 1980
to promote the library within the community. Its purpose is to
support and strengthen the library’s resources and services
to the public. Members may volunteer at the two annual used
book sales to provide funding for the library.

Central Texas SPCA is a no-kill shelter that provides care for
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas pairs vol-

Conviction Yoga is a project teaching prison inmates a
blend of Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga with an emphasis on Buddhist and other meditation techniques. The main focus is to
provide spiritual rehabilitation and help inmates to find peace

Literacy Council of Williamson County improves adult
literacy in the county and offers English as a second language
courses. Volunteers tutor individuals to improve literacy in various aspects of life and help them earn their GED certificate and
citizenship.

Veterans Connection Thrift Store sells donated items
with proceeds benefiting the No Longer Homeless Project in
support of military veterans. Volunteers assist with unpacking,
hanging and sorting items, as well as light furniture moving and

Open My World Therapeutic Riding Center serves
individuals with disabilities using horses for therapy. Volunteers
age 15 and older are needed Tue.–Sat. to work directly with the
individuals, horses, petting zoo animals or in other capacities.
Younger volunteers cannot help with therapeutic riding sessions. Volunteers receive training before starting.

to families in Williamson County living outside the geographical city limits of any town or city within the county not already
providing a similar program. Brown Santa purchases toys,
books and other items needed to make Christmas brighter for

Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center is
a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to abused
children, non-offending family members and the professionals
dedicated to the intervention, investigation, prosecution and
treatment options related to child abuse cases. Volunteers are
needed to provide hospitality to families and children, answer
phones and give administrative assistance.

County Chapter provides handmade blankets for children
going through a difficult time in their lives. The nonprofit works
with about 40 organizations including police departments,
hospitals and children’s shelters.

Run Free Texas offers a 12-week running and walking pro-
gram for at-risk youth faced with deteriorating family structure,
gang and criminal activity, violence in schools, peer pressure,
bullying, substance abuse issues and other social challenges.
