FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
DECEMBER 21, 2014
Christmas 2014
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Rejoice! The weeks of Advent waiting are over, and Christ is born!
We rejoice in our Savior’s birth—remembering the great gift of faith He has given us through the
mystery of His incarnation and the saving power of His death and resurrection.
Each year, the people of our archdiocese have been asked to make a special gift on Christmas
Day to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. The men of our seminary, who
have responded to Christ's call to follow Him, are truly a gift to the Church and to the
Archdiocese of St. Louis. It is these men who will bring the faith given to us by Christ 2000
years ago to future generations here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
I ask you, once again, to pray for vocations and for all our priests and seminarians. I also ask you
to be generous in your donation to the Christmas Day collection, which helps pay the day-to-day
expenses and maintenance of our seminary.
Please be assured of my prayers for you during the season of Christmas. May the Lord of life
come into your hearts and homes in a special way during this holy time of year.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson
Archbishop of St. Louis

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!
The Annual Christmas Cookie Bake is complete
and once again was very successful. Thanks to
everyone that donated items, gift cards, or time to
help. Thanks to those that purchased these
delicious pastries! The total number of cookies was
over 9900! YES 825 dozen equaling 9900
cookies! REMARKABLE. They have all been
sold and the profits this year total just over $3000
for the school. While this does raise money it is
also a great time to get together and have fun. Even
if your not a baker (and I'm not, I'm a salesman)
there are jobs for you. We need dough scooped
onto cookie pans, dishes washed. Boxes packed and
carried to the freezer. You can sit to work if
necessary.
Thanks again and next year consider joining the fun
Have a Blessed Christmas

Blessing for the Advent Wreath
O God, by whose word all things are sanctified, pour
forth thy blessing upon this wreath and grant that we
who use it may prepare our hearts for the Coming of
Christ, and may receive from thee abundant graces.
Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
________________
Collects for Advent
These prayers, faithful translations of the Latin Collects,
or opening prayers, may be said every evening when the
Advent wreath is lit.
Fourth Week
Pour forth thy power, O Lord, and come: Assist us by
that mighty power, so that by thy grace and merciful
kindness we may swiftly receive the salvation that our
sins impede: Who livest and reignest with thee in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without
end. Amen.

The man had been pacing along the sidewalk on the other
side of the street. He seemed to glance over occasionally to
those who were standing, praying in front of the Planned
Parenthood abortion facility (P.P.) – and at the pro-life signs
being carried. Then, he crossed the busy boulevard and
approached the parishioners from “St. Paul’s Catholic
Church”. (It was their “day to keep vigil.”) The man “was
shy at first” thanking them “for being there.” As he shared
his story he spoke quietly, becoming more emotional. He
revealed that an ex-girlfriend from his past had an abortion
before he married another woman. “Even though the man
was between 50 and 60 he cried and mourned” as if it had
recently occurred, sharing that “it was wrong.” One man
from the group ”laid a hand on his shoulder as we offered
prayers and words of encouragement.” As the man left, it
seemed “a burden had been lifted from him, having been able
to share his pain.” This incident occurred during the last 2
days of the 40 Days for Life Campaign (40DFL). Saint
(Pope) John Paul II gave voice to the compassion of Christ
and His Church. “I would like to say a special word to
women (and men) who have experienced an abortion. The
Church is aware of the many factors which may have
influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in
many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. Do
not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope.” Project
Rachel – Project Joseph(P.R. – P.J.) asks those living with
the pain of abortion: “Do you still feel anger, guilt or sadness
even though the abortion was years ago? These emotions are
common results of abortion.” Healing and forgiveness are
possible through P.R. – P.J. Specially trained counselors can
help you experience Christ’s peace. For private, professional
counseling at no charge contact P.R. (for women) at 314-792
