CHARGES LAID IN CONNECTION WITH PROJECT FORZA Investigators with York Regional Police have arrested and charged six men in an organized crime investigation dubbed Project Forza. On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, numerous warrants were executed across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) which resulted in the arrests of members of the Ranieri organized crime group. This group was a threat to public safety and has been successfully dismantled. In April 2013, Juan FERNANDEZ and associate Fernando PIMANTEL were murdered in Italy. It is believed that as a result of these murders, Daniele RANIERI became a successor to Juan FERNANDEZ controlling an organized crime group operating in the Greater Toronto Area. In July 2013, a multi-jurisdictional investigation led by York Regional Police and managed through the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, which involved a partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Ontario Provincial Police, identified the Ranieri group as a threat to public safety and began Project Forza. The Project Forza investigation identified multiple associates in the Ranieri group and confirmed the group’s criminality and their involvement in extortion, fraud, obstruction of justice, parole violations, drug trafficking and firearm offences. Attached are a list of the men that have been arrested and their charges. Arrest warrants have been issued for two members of the Ranieri crime group that are still outstanding.
