FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL
December 15, 2014
Parents,
This is sure to be a busy week here at Holy Family with basketball games, Christmas Program,
and classroom parties. Over the weekend two of our First Lego League teams qualified for the
state competition to be held in February at Northern Kentucky University. Our students, their
teachers, and parents spent hours over the last several weeks preparing for this competition
and it is great to see their hard work pay off. Everyone in our school community is very proud
of their accomplishment. On Sunday several of our students participated in a Christmas Sing-along. Mrs. Carothers and Mr. Palmer did an excellent job preparing them to perform. It was an
excellent event and something we plan to grow each year.
This Thursday night at 6:30 we will have our annual Christmas program. Mrs. Carothers and all
of our students have been preparing for weeks and we are all very excited to see what they
have in store. After the program please join us for refreshments and take a look at all the
wonderful silent auction items created by our classrooms. Mrs. Suman has done an incredible
job and created some wonderful holiday themed items featuring our students.
This Friday we will have our class Christmas parties. Students may wear jeans and a Christmas
shirt on Friday. We invite you to come to school and enjoy this special event with your child.
We will return to school from Christmas break on January 5th.
Merry Christmas,
Matt Anderson

We will complete Chapter 13 this week with our test on Wednesday.
It’s Mummy Time!
Students in the 7th grade need to bring in a shoe box to make their mummies sarcophagus. They can
bring in items to decorate the sarcophagus such as glitter, stickers, paint, plastic gems, and sequins. If
you have not brought in your salt and baking soda please get this in soon. We will start our mummies
the week we return from Christmas break.
Diocese Science Fair Information is Here!
The science fair will take place on Friday, February 20th in Heritage Hall East, located in the Lexington
Convention Center. The final date for registration is January 20, 2015 at 3:00pm. The fair will include
4th – 8th grade only this year. We will be allowed to bring 15 of our best projects due to the fact that
our enrollment is below 300. I know we have some great projects being put together from our middle
school. We went and represented our school very proudly last year and I anticipate the same this
year. The work being put in on these is fantastic. I hope that all of our projects will get to go and at
this point if they are all ready they will.
Science Fair Information!
Our science fair days are every Tuesday and Thursday and students must work on these at school. No
work for fair projects will be permitted to be done at home. Anything they need to work on the
projects must be brought to school and can be left here so it will be available on work days. Students
should start bringing their supplies in as soon as possible. If they need things they should check with
me to see if I have what they need before you go and spend money for it. I have a lot of what they
may need. All projects must be approved before they can do them.
Students need to purchase a display board for their project. If they are in a group they as a group
need to decide who will be responsible for bringing in items such as the display board and craft
supplies. The display board should have the dimensions of 48 inches wide and 36 inches in Height.
You may also have a header board that has the dimensions of 36 inches wide and a height of 10
inches. They may use white or any color they choose for the display board and header if you choose
to have one.
Students will be given a copy of the fair guidelines booklet. It is the only copy they will get. I have the
booklet in my science files should you need a new copy or need to access the information for the fair.
Information for the Dioceses fair will be available very soon as per Mr. Weaver our Superintendent.

Lego League Practice!
We will be having practices for LEGO for State competition when we return from Christmas Break.
Congratulations Teams!
Reminder
If you are going to volunteer to drive students for field trips there is paper work in the office you must
complete. If you have not done this and intend to help us out in this very much needed and
appreciated volunteer act of kindness please stop by the office and get this done A.S.A.P. We need
you!
If you want to be a volunteer please stop by the office and signup for virtus training if you have not
done it yet. We love our volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do without you!
Script Program Incentive for Participation
WE are on a mission! We want to get 100% participation from our middle and high school student’s
parents in the script program. If you already participate you know how easy and convenient it is.
As an incentive we have offered to the students that once we get 100% participation from all of our
student’s families we will have a buffet potluck lunch at school and parents are invited. This is only for
the middle and high school. Students/Parents and staff will bring a favorite dish to enjoy family style
instead of a school lunch. The lunch would be from 11:00am – 12:10pm and they would still get
recess. It would be scheduled on a Thursday or a Friday which means they would not have P.E. that
day.
The gift card program has a new format that will make shopping with gift cards even easier. It is
perfect for families on the go. You can now set up an account with shopwithscrip.com and use your
checking account to purchase gift cards that are emailed directly to you.
Don’t forget to register your Kroger Plus cards. Our organization number is 82133 .

Dear Parents,
We had two great visits to local churches last week- the Methodist (chocolate
church) downtown and St. James AMEd down the street from HFS. The hospitality
at both places was amazing and the tour each gave us was very informative.
This week we will show a film on Judaism and the Ten Commandments as we
complete this nine weeks.
Happy Holidays!!

I do not know who has had more fun this week-our staff or the kids! Most of the
kids can tell you the who we celebrate being born at Christmas, Jesus’s parents’
names, where Jesus was born, who came to see him and what led them to Jesus.
The best part of working on Bible stories with students is that we get to hear
their theology! It really puts things in perspective and teaches us so much about
God and our own faith! Christmas songs have been lulling the children to sleep by
the light of the Christmas tree at nap time. They LOVE our daily Christmas tree
lighting ceremony! I look forward to more Christmas fun next week!
Speaking of next week, please feel free to send in any Christmas themed snacks
and/or treats next week. We will gladly accept them!
We may be open some days during Christmas break. It is CRUCIAL that if you
intend to use our child care services during that time out of school that we have a
count on the number of children that will be present. During Thanksgiving break,
we had quite a few more kids than we had staffed for because not all that
attended had signed-up! PLEASE contact me ASAP if you will need care any of
the days we are not in school. We will not be open if we do not have enough
signed-up so please contact me about this!
Remember that Friday students may wear a green or red shirt with jeans. We will
be having our party in Playschool on Thursday because not all of our students
attend on Friday. If that is your child’s last day with us before the holiday, they
may wear the green/red shirt and jeans.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK AND BE SAFE IN ALL YOUR

GATHERINGS!
Parents,
Thank you all for being so supportive of our students as they have
been getting ready for the Christmas Program. We are all very excited
to show what they have accomplished.
This year’s program will open with songs from the preschool,
kindergarten, and first grade classes. They have been working very
hard and I am so proud of all of them!
The second through eighth grades will be featured in a musical
called “The Legend of the Christmas King”. Join us Thursday evening
the 18th to hear the story of Artie who is in search of the Newborn
King of Kings. The students have been working very hard to put
everything together.
Thank you,
Mrs. Carothers

Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest
To: All Holy Family Parents and Guardians
Subject: Knights of Columbus Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest
The Knights of Columbus Council 1487 will be sponsoring 2014 Keep Christ in
Christmas Poster Contest. The Knights would like to give our children an
opportunity to express the true meaning of Christmas -- how our Lord, out of love,
came to us as a humble baby. The poster contest is open to religious education and
Holy Family School students from kindergarten through middle school grades.
All posters should express the theme “Keep Christ in Christmas” and will be judged
for expression of the theme, originality and artistic quality and presentation. Posters
will be separated into three age groups, and one $25 Gattiland gift card prize will be
awarded to the winner of each age division. Appropriate slogans or verse can be on
the artwork. Adults can collaborate with the contestant on ideas or design but the
artwork must be the contestant’s. Only one entry allowed per child.
The contestant should put their name, grade and teacher’s name on the reverse side
of the poster and return it to Holy Family School Office no later than Thursday,
December 18.
Posters will be judged and the 1st place winner in each age group will receive a $25
Gift certificate.
Help our children save the traditional Christmas and Christian values in a fun and
heartfelt loving way to truly bring Christ back into Christmas.
Thank you for encouraging your child to participate.
