STAR3 Winners for December, 2014
Archdale Elementary School - Bryan Raynor, Jr. - 5th Grade
Bryan is the son of Bryan Raynor and the grandson of Trish and David King. Bryan has been part of the
Archdale family since he was in kindergarten. He is a very conscientious student and has always been very
involved in school. Bryan currently serves on Safety Patrol and has been a member the Student Council since
he was in 4th grade. This year he was elected Student Council President. Through his work with Student
Council, Bryan is able to use his kind heart and outgoing personality to help students in our school and people
in our community. Most recently Bryan, along with many other members of the AES Student Council, hosted
Operation Christmas Star, in which they helped raise over 1500 nonperishable food items for Community
Outreach of Archdale/Trinity, our local food pantry. Bryan is an ambassador of good cheer wherever he goes
and we are proud for him to receive this honor. Archdale Elementary is happy to recognize Bryan Raynor, Jr. as
our STAR3 Student for December.
Archdale-Trinity Middle School - Zoe Kanupp - 8th Grade
Zoe is the daughter of Tonya Kanupp. Zoe is going through many personal issues and transitions this year.
Despite her obstacles, she has not allowed this to negatively affect her academics and focus on school. She is
regularly on time for school and classes. She strives to complete her assignments in a timely manner. Even
when she knows she will be absent, she actively seeks out her teachers for work before leaving and has it
completed upon returning to school. She is always willing to help her peers and teachers alike and is a role
model for good character for everyone. We are very proud of Zoe's accomplishments and are excited to
recognize her as our STAR3 student for December.
Braxton Craven Middle School - Daniel Gomez - 6th Grade
Daniel is the son of Feliciano Gomez and Ariana Escalante-Gomez. Braxton Craven is proud to have Daniel on
the Pirate team. He moved to Randolph County over the summer and has had a wonderful transition to
Braxton Craven. Since the first day of school, Daniel has impressed the teachers and staff with his work ethic,
respect for peers and staff, and his consistent use of manners. He is always prepared and eager to learn.
Daniel loves to play soccer, attend church, and help his younger brothers. He also loves to eat his
grandmother's cooking, and wants to teach his teachers how to cook homemade tortillas. We are very blessed
to have Daniel at Braxton Craven and congratulate him on being selected our STAR3 student for December.
Hopewell Elementary School - Brianna Robinson - 5th Grade
Brianna, the daughter of Melanie Robinson, is in Mrs. Burgess' class at Hopewell Elementary. Brianna is truly a
delight to be around. She always has a sweet smile and shows kindness to those around her at all times.
Brianna has faced and overcome some big challenges this school year. She lives with a seizure disorder that
frequently interrupts her academic life. Through it all, Brianna perseveres and keeps her same bright, sunny
attitude. If she gets discouraged, she certainly doesn't show it in the classroom! Brianna is a terrific all-around
student and Hopewell is very pleased to recognize her as our STAR3 student for December.
John Lawrence Elementary School - Kyrsten McCall - 5th Grade
Kyrsten McCall is the daughter of Jason and Michelle McCall. She has two sisters, Logan and Madison. Kyrsten
is a very responsible student and is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. She is honest
and trustworthy. She tends to be motivated intrinsically. This strength drives her to succeed. While wearing a
sweet smile, Kyrsten loves to make others happy. Compassion fuels her very tender heart. This compassion is
reflected in her care for the concerns of both her peers and siblings. At home, Kyrsten helps her younger
sibling, Madison, with work. She also enjoys helping her mom cook spaghetti by breaking up the noodles, and
meatloaf by mixing up the ingredients by hand. Kyrsten loves animals. She once saved a stray kitten that was
stuck in a tree. Kyrsten has the potential to positively affect our world and we are very glad to be a part of her
world here at John Lawrence Elementary School! We congratulate Kyrsten on being selected our STAR3
student for December.
New Market Elementary School - Randy Crayton - 1st Grade
Randy Scott Crayton is the son of Constance Burcham. Randy’s family suffered a loss last year; however, his
tenacity to overcome and his diligence to succeed have been observed not only in his school work, but in his
personal life as well. Randy is considerate, respectful, and thoughtful. He is cooperative and consistently
displays good citizenship. He is soft-spoken and never says a harsh word to anyone. Needless to say, he has
lots of friends! He has a contagious smile and a kindness that melts your heart. He always puts forth his best
effort in everything he does and takes pride in his school work. He has worked hard to be proficient in all
areas, with math being his strongest subject. Randy exhibits all the characteristics to be successful as a student
and in life! Congratulations to Randy Crayton, New Market’s STAR3 student for December.
Randolph Early College High School - Ashelynne Bracken - 12th Grade
Ashelynne Bracken is daughter of Robert Dwiggins and Angela Bracken from Trinity. Ashelynne is a
conscientious student whose hard work has been rewarded by inductions into Phi Theta Kappa and the
National Society of High School Scholars. Last year, she served as a Junior Marshal, often taking the initiative
to complete tasks without being asked. Like many 12th grade students, Ashelynne is patiently waiting for that
big letter in the mailbox: an acceptance letter from her top choice university, where she plans to study
nursing. Teachers have described her as a pleasant, respectful, and diligent young woman with a bright future.
Ashelynne has been a wonderful asset to Randolph Early College High School and we are proud to recognize
her as our STAR3 student for December!
Trindale Elementary School - Madison Benge - 4th Grade
Madison is the daughter of Tabitha Collins. She has faced many obstacles in the last few years, including a dog
attack that required numerous stitches, as well as the tragic loss of her father. Nevertheless, she always has a
positive spirit. She attends school regularly and was on the A honor roll for the first grading period. She can
always be counted on to do the right thing, be it listening in class or helping others. We are proud to have
Madison Benge represent Trindale Elementary as our STAR3 student for December.
Trinity Elementary School – Lexus Byers – 2nd Grade
Lexus is the daughter of Brad and Cherri Byers. Lexus is well mannered, respectful and one of the most
kindhearted students in her class. She is dependable and strives for excellence in every task she takes on. Her
positive demeanor and respectful attitude make her a positive role model for the students in her class. For all
of these reasons, and many more, we are happy to celebrate Lexus Byers. Trinity Elementary School is proud
to select Lexus as our STAR3 student for December.
Trinity High School - Selenna Nie - 11th Grade
Selenna, the daughter of Suong Tran, is enthusiastic, respectful, conscientious, and mature. She displays these
attributes naturally. Respected among teachers and peers alike, her presence evokes determination and
leadership. Colonel Humphrey states in his nomination, “Miss Nie is a leader in Air Force Junior ROTC. She is
an active participant in our color guard and drill team and performs at such a high standard of excellence that
she was selected one of only two Trinity cadets to participate on a joint color guard assignment. She trains
other cadets on the proper use and execution of the various computer-based systems the Air Force uses to
manage Cadets.” Selenna continuously displays quality characteristics which are credit upon herself and her
family and are in keeping with the highest traditions of Trinity High and the Randolph County School System.

Wheatmore High School - Oralia Reyes - 12th Grade
Oralia is the daughter of Miguel Reyes and Emma Hernandez. Oralia is a prime candidate for this month’s
STAR3 Student. She has faced many academic and social challenges in school. From her freshman year until
now we have seen a significant improvement in her academics and attendance. Oralia's attitude has changed
and she has set goals and aspirations for her future. She understands the importance of a high school diploma
and is currently an honor roll student as a senior! She has even signed up for the College and Career Classes
next semester at Randolph Community College. Her goal is to work in translation in the medical field. She has
matured into a beautiful young lady and has a desire to become a better person each day for herself, as well
as for her 21-month-old daughter, Layla. We are looking forward to handing her a diploma on June 9, and
can't wait to see what the future has in store for her! She is going to do great things! Congratulations to Oralia
