Share the Joy of the Season
T
here is so much going on this Holiday
Season at Seabury, why not take some
time to share the joy with neighbors and
friends? Elves are working hard behind the
scenes to deck our halls and keep us all in the
holiday spirit. We begin with
Operation Sparkle on December 1st
with teams of employees and
volunteers draping evergreen
boughs, bows, lights and statuary
throughout the campus. The Flower
and Decorating Committee is also
hard at work to lift our spirits with
tinsel and trim!
Holiday Helpers consist of teams
of resident volunteers and employees who log-in and distribute the hundreds of
holiday packages delivered to Seabury during
the month of December. If you can volunteer
even a small amount of your time and energy to
this effort, please contact Maura Mazur at
860 243-6053.
The Annual Board Holiday Reception with
the Seabury Board of Directors will be held on
Thursday, December 4, at 5 p.m.
You won’t want to miss this special
celebration of the season. All
Independent and Views residents and
Seabury at Home Members are
invited.
This year, Hanukkah, The Festival
of Lights begins at sundown on
Tuesday, December 16. A
candle-lighting service will begin at
5 p.m. on each of the eight nights
at the Top of the Stairs. All are
welcome!
We would like to offer a special
thank you to Arlene Friedman for
coordinating all of the Hanukkah
speakers and festivities.
Mark your calendars: the Bishop’s Christmas
Service will be held on Tuesday, December 23 at
10:30 a.m. in Heritage Hall. See page 3 for
details.
“This is my wish for you:
peace of mind,
prosperity through the year,
happiness that multiplies,
health for you and yours,
fun around every corner,
energy to chase your dreams,
joy to fill your holidays!”

Great Decisions is a longstanding, respected tradition at Seabury.
For many years residents have led discussions that enlighten and
challenge our thinking about United States’ foreign policies and
engagement in the world. To stimulate and guide our discussions,
we use materials provided by the Foreign Policy Association. On
Wednesday, December 1 at 3:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall,
we will introduce Great Decisions 2015, announce its topics,
and establish its procedures. At this meeting, you may sign up to
participate in the program, and/or volunteer to lead one of the eight sessions
beginning in early February. Past participant or inquirer, you are encouraged to
attend. If you have any questions, bring them to the meeting or contact Tiffany
at (860) 243-6065.

by many of the ladies who have
lived here. It is kept in the Library

TUESDAY
Seabury Monthly
Center for Spirituality
Greetings Seabury,
Last week, again, I was reminded by a journey away
from Seabury what an extraordinary community we
have. Several Seabury colleagues and I attended the
annual conference of the International Council on
Active Aging in Orlando. At the conference,
Heather Stanton and Gwynne Deveau presented the
Seabury Balance Life Team and I led a workshop on
singing, brain function and well-being for people of all
ages. Rick Heath, Karen Sprout and Brian Harris were
there, as well, representing Seabury and helping with
the above mentioned presentation and workshop.
The Balance Life Team’s presentation was chock full
of photos and videos of dozens (hundreds?) of you
generously donating your time and energy during the
Give In All Directions campaign, boldly adventuring
around campus during the Go Green enterprise, and
playfully competing during Seabury’s two Spirit Weeks
to date. Plus, the over-the-top, technologically
astounding quality of the presentation videos—
including the real-time participation of much of the
Balance Life Team direct from the Hearthside
Parlor—highlighted the boundless creativity and
enthusiasm that makes Seabury such an inspiring
place to live and work.
The following day, my own workshop included a
showing of the Meadowlarks video that
Carl Donatelli and I made last year. I never tire of
seeing all those smiling faces and hearing all those
voices raised in joyful song. And, I am always
grateful for the myriad Seabury independent
residents and members of the Meadows staff who
help to make the Meadowlarks so marvelous.
All of which is to say, as we begin this season of
thanksgiving, lights, song, and gifts, I will sing a
song of thanks for you, Seabury.
You are a gift to me and a light to
the world.
Siochain,
Chaplain Bob

Critics Circle group, which
typically meets on the 3rd
Wednesday of the month

a balance between classic

Everyone is welcome.
