Nov. 10, 2013 * Gainesville, Fla. * O’Connell Center
Jaterra Bonds recorded a career-high 25 points and a career-high-tying nine assists along
with seven rebounds while leading a well-balanced Gator offense to an 88-77 victory over North
Florida on Sunday afternoon at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Five Gators tallied double-digit scoring efforts, including junior Kayla Lewis, who scored a
season-high 16 points to give her 400 career points. Lewis also pulled down a team-leading nine
rebounds and stole a career-high five balls. Senior Lily Svete added 12 points off of a season-hightying four treys, all of which came in the first quarter and aided in boosting the Gators’ offense early
on. Sophomores Cassie Peoples and January Miller notched 11 and 10 points, respectively, to
round out the double-figure scoring for Florida.
Turning Point: The Gators led by double-digits for most of the first half, but North Florida pulled
within three, 57-54, with 13:39 on the clock in the second stanza. However, Jaterra Bonds hit a pair
of free throws and sparked a 13-1 run and the Gators took a 70-55 lead and held UNF at bay by at
least nine points for the remainder of the game.
Stat Line of the Game: Jaterra Bonds scored a career-high 25 points, bolstered by a 7-of-9
performance from the charity stripe, and dished out a career-high-tying nine assists and added
seven rebounds

Numbers of Note
Hurting at Home
During the first four games of this current six-game home stand, Florida has
compiled a 2-2 record and struggled with
its shot from all over the court.
In the seven games prior to these last four
games, the Gators were converting an
SEC-best 75.7 percent from the free throw
line, as well as fielding one of the league’s
top field goal marks overall and from the
three-point arc with conversions of 48.8
percent and 36.9 percent from long range.
In the last four games - all of which have
been at home - UF sank just 59.2 percent
(45-76) from the stripe, 36.2 percent overall
from the field and 26.5 percent (18-68)
from the arc.
Who’s Hot
Antoinette Bannister was voted to the
Gator Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team
after contributing two-game stats of 11.0
points and dishing seven assists with just
two turnovers. She also converted a teambest 9-of-12 free throws.
Ronni Williams tallied 11.5 points with 5.5
rebounds, while hitting 56.3 percent from
the floor during the last two games.
What’s Not
The Gator’s free throw shooting has been
off the mark, to say the least.
In the last four games, UF is converting a
mere 59.2 percent (45-76) from the line.
Senior forward Kayla Lewis is one of the
top two Gators finding her way to the line
143 consecutive games with a 3-pointer
5
8
Kayla Lewis is the lone senior on the 201415 Gator roster.
Five different Gators have scored in every
game this season: January Miller, Carlie
Needles, Cassie Peoples, Kayla Lewis and
Haley Lorenzen. Ronni Williams scored in
every game she played this year, missing the
Charleston Southern (Nov. 25) contest due
to injury.
9
Brooke Copeland became the ninth different
Gator on the current roster to earn a starting assignment, doing so on December 10
against Wisconsin. (Batchelor and Dimaite
have not)
9
Nine of the 11 Gators who have played this
season have recorded a double-figure scoring effort. (Anderson and Dimaite have not)
Quick Scout - North Florida
Seven of the Osprey’s 12 games have
been played away from UNF Arena.
UNF forward/center Paulina Zavechaite
corralled a school-record 23 rebounds in
the December 21 home win against Western Carolina. The 6-foot-1 senior enters
Sunday’s game averaging 11.2 rebounds
and 8.3 points.
Guards Destinee Smith and Bailey Florin
combine for 41-of-98 three-pointers (41.8
percent) and led the Ospreys with 13.3 and
10.2 points per game.
UNF and UF have one common opponent
this season, Florida State, and both lost to
the Seminoles.
10
When Dyandria Anderson was fouled after
converting a field goal with 8:08 remaining
in the first of the December 10 game against
Wisconsin, she became the 10th different
Gator this season to go to the free throw
line with a three-point-play opportunity.
(Dimaite has not)
more, but has lost her stroke during this
four-game stretch, managing just 4-of-17
(23.5 percent).

Consistency From the Floor
Florida is hitting 43.7 percent of its shots
from the floor this year and has netted a
better shooting percentage from the field
than its opponent in 9 of the team’s 12
games.
Downtown Dilemma
Florida’s three-point defense suffocated the
Hokies on Dec. 1, as VT shot just 1-for-18
from downtown. It was the fewest threepointers allowed by UF since Dec. 19,
2005, when UF limited Texas-Arlington to
1-for-18 from long range (minimum 8 shots
attempted).
Gripping Gators
Five of UF’s 12 games this year have been
decided by 10 points or less.
The Gators are 2-3 in those games this
year.
17 of Florida’s games in 2013-14 were
decided by 10 points or less (10-7 record).
Ten of the Gators’ 16 SEC games were
decided by eight points or less.
Helping Hands
Florida matched a season-best 22 assists
in its defeat of Georgetown.
Redshirt junior guard Cassie Peoples
checks in at No. 7 in the SEC, averaging 3.8 assists per game. She began
the season with seven assists against
Jacksonville, one shy of her career best
(8 vs. Kennesaw State, 11/17/13) and
followed that effort with four assists versus
Longwood and St. John’s before another 7
helpers against CSU.

Block Party
Freshman Haley Lorenzen has swatted
a team-best 12 shots this season, helping
the Gators average 3.7 blocked shots per
game.
Playing Bigger Than Her Size
Despite being 5’6”, redshirt junior Carlie
Needles was the Gator’s leading rebounder through the first nine games of the
2014-15 season.
She had averaged 6.6 rebounds per game
enter the December 14 outing against
Stetson and collected seven boards in that
game.
Senior Kayla Lewis, however, corralled
a 15 rebounds and edged Needles in the
season average with 6.8 per game compared to Needles’ 6.6 mark.
Needles logged a career-best 14 rebounds
against Charleston Southern (November
25).
Stop, Thief!
The Gators have totaled 34 more steals
than their opponents, 136-102, and have
enjoyed the advantage all except three
games.
After a season-high 20 thefts in the romp
over Longwood, the Orange and Blue
added 19 more steals against Charleston
Southern.
Redshirt junior Cassie Peoples (27) and
redshirt senior Kayla Lewis (20) lead the
squad.

Big Night for the Tennessean
Freshman Brooke Copeland enjoyed a
career night against Charleston Southern,
coming off the bench for career-bests in
points (15), free throws (5), rebounds (4),
field goals (4) and 3-point field goals (2).
She totaled all of these statistics in 16
minutes of action.
Copeland also showed her game against
Eastern Washington (Dec. 22), when she
scored nine points with a career-best
seven rebounds.
Quick Roster Rundown
The Gators returned six players from last
year’s team that posted the 14th 20-win
season in program history and finished
fifth in the SEC regular-season standings.
Five of those six players competed in all 33
games.
In addition, UF had four individuals play in
their first game as a Gator against Jacksonville on Nov. 14. The group included
redshirt junior Viktorija Dimaite and
freshmen Dyandria Anderson, Brooke
Copeland and Haley Lorenzen. Kayla
Lewis, a 2014-15 All-SEC preseason
second team selection, was one of three
Gators to score in double-figures in UF’s
win over the Dolphins, as she scored 13
points on an efficient, 6-of-10 shooting
from the field and led Florida on the boards
with seven rebounds. Lewis returned to
the Gators this season as UF’s top scorer
and rebounder, posting averages of 12.2
points and 8.7 rebounds, while hitting 60.2
percent on FGs.
All six returners started at least one game
last season, with Lewis one of two (with
graduated senior Jaterra Bonds) who
started every game.
Last year’s Florida squad earned the
program’s 14th NCAA Tournament berth,
competing in the postseason for the seventh consecutive season.
You Want SEC Thrillers? We Play Them!
Florida’s last meeting against seven of the
13 other teams from the SEC has been
decided by 10 points or less.
Home Court Advantage
Florida boasted a 12-4 record at home last
season, with eight victories occurring over
non-conference opponents and four versus
SEC teams.
UF dropped its December 10 home game
against Wisconsin and suffered its first loss
in five games in the O’Dome. The setback
also halted a nine-game home win streak
against non-conference foes.
Early News & Notes
The Gators have adopted the mantra
#Elevate for the 2014-15 season. The team
wants to #Elevate the program, themselves
individually on the court, off the court - every aspect of their lives. The team went so
far as to #Elevate the annual team photo
taken October 9 at Media Day, when, for
the first time under Coach Amanda Butler,
all coaches and staff didn’t wear traditional
Gator polo shirts but opted for Game Day
attire.
Coach Butler explained that after the first
official day of practice on Sunday, October
•
6, the team “took a day off and went into
a three-day defensive training camp that
our players named, ‘Camp Hector’ – you’ll
have to ask them about that, they’ll have
a great deal of insight to it, so I trust them.
But, they worked really, really hard and
are making great strides this year to be a
much better defensive unit than we were
last year – that’s certainly an area that’s
an emphasis for us, but I like what I see.
I like all of the things early on in the year
that you really want to be important and
that’s how they get along, how hard they
work, how serious they are about elevating
the program – which is something you’re
going to hear a lot from us this year, trying
to elevate in every way, on and off the
court. I think this group really, really lives
that out in the way they interact, the way
they represent our university and the way
they’re going to compete and we’ll get to
see that this year.”
One especially intense team bonding
experience during the summer included a
morning of “Combat Training” with the U.S.
Marines!

GAME 13: GATORS vs. OSPREYS // Sunday, December 28 // 2 p.m. ET
2014-15 Gator Women’s Basketball
State Gatorade Gators
I’m Loving It
Generation Next:
Part of a Set
• Kayla Lewis – 2010 Gatorade GEORGIA High School Player of the
Year for girls’ basketball
• Haley Lorenzen – 2014 Gatorade IOWA High School Player of the
Year for girls’ basketball
• January Miller – mother, Marlene, was a letterwinner on the Gator
track and field team (1988-90).
• Ronni Williams – father, Rodney Williams, played basketball for the
Gators during the 1982 and 1983 seasons.
Growing Up Gator
• Both of January Miller’s parents attended Florida: her mother, Marlene, was a member of the track & field team (1988-90) and her
father, Michael, earned his undergraduate (1994) and master’s
(2008) degrees from UF.
In the Coaching Business
• Antoinette Bannister is the daughter of Tony Bannister, who coached
Antoinette at Potter’s House Christian Academy in Jacksonville,
where he has guided the Lions to a number of National Christian
School Athletic Association (NCSAA) titles.
Two-Sport Gator
• Gator soccer sophomore midfielder Pamela Begič joined the Gator
women’s basketball team in January of 2014. Begič got double
NCAA Championship experiences in her freshmen year, as both the
Gator soccer and women’s basketball teams advanced to NCAA
Second Round action.
Representing Her Country
• Redshirt-junior Viktorija Dimaite was a member of Lithuania’s 2011
U-20 Team during the summer.
• Ronni Williams is the first Gator signee named a McDonald’s High
School All-American in program history. Also on the team in 2014-15
is redshirt-sophomore Cassie Peoples, who was a McDonald’s High
School All-American and initially signed with Texas.
• Freshman Dyandria Anderson has a twin brother, Kendall, who attends
East Florida State College.
Seven is Heaven
• Antoinette Bannister is one of seven children in her family; she has
two older sisters, Shaundra and Shaneka, two older brothers, TJ and
Correy, and two younger sisters, Antonia and Tesia.
Siblings, Siblings Everywhere!
• Carla Batchelor has 15 siblings (yes, 15): seven older sisters, one older
brother and seven younger brothers. At most, she lived with five
sisters and one brother at one time.
He Put a Ring on It
• Redshirt-senior Kayla Lewis got engaged in June 2014, with her wedding date set for May 23, 2015.
Mission Accomplished
• Freshman Brooke Copeland and her family have gone a number of
mission trips, including a couple to Israel.
Jersey Girl
• Kayla Lewis’ high school jersey was chosen in 2010 to hang for a year
in the Ring of Honor at the National Women’s Basketball Hall of
Fame.
House Divided?
• Junior January Miller was an avid dancer for nine years (age 2-11) in
cheer, dance and jazz, before she turned her focus to basketball.
She auditioned for and was selected to the Junior Magic Dancers
for three years, performing during timeouts and during halftime of
NBA Orlando Magic games from ages 8 to 11.
• Sophomore Ronni Williams played her first collegiate game on Nov.
8, 2013, against Bethune-Cookman, the alma mater of her mother,
Sherri Williams, who was “Miss Bethune-Cookman College” (now
University) during the 1987-88 school year. Ronni had one of the
more impressive debuts in program history with 15 points and 17
rebounds, and became just the second to net a double-double in her
debut, joining Olympian Tammy Jackson.
Second Degree:
Fun Times
Doubling Her Fun
• Ronni Williams – uncle, Marlon McCree, played football at Kentucky
before enjoying eight-year NFL career.
That’s Magic!
• Kayla Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in Spring
2014 and is enrolled in postgraduate studies.
• Viktorija Dimaite is pursuing a double-major in Anthropology and
Criminology.
She Shoots! She Scores!
• Antoinette Bannister totaled 5,424 points playing at The Potter’s
House Christian Academy, which isn’t a member of the Florida
High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) so her stats are not
recognized nationally, but if they were, Bannister’s career total
would ranked No. 2 all-time, while her 657 three-pointers would be
the most in prep history. She set the state of Florida’s all-time prep
scoring record.
Downtown
• Redshirt-junior Carlie Needles narrowly lost a three-point shooting
contest against then-Denver Nuggets-now N.Y. Knicks star Carmelo
Anthony, who “had to alter the rules to beat her,” Carlie’s father,
Corey, said (the contest is posted on YouTube).
All-American Family
• Freshman Haley Lorenzen has three parents – each of whom were
All-Americans! Her mother, Karen Napolitano, was a 1986 First
Team All-American in field hockey at the University of Iowa; her
father, Al Lorenzen, was a McDonald’s High School American and
1984 Iowa Mr. Basketball before an accomplished hoops career at
the University of Iowa; and her stepmom, Barb (Franke) Lorenzen,
was the 1991 Iowa Miss Basketball and starred at University of
Wisconsin (1991-96).
• Haley Lorenzen’s uncle is Dean Napolitano, a professional comedian.
Famous Folks:
Runs in the Family: Gators whose parents also played the SAME
sport
• Cassie Peoples – father, Marcus, played basketball at the University of
Mary-Hardin Baylor.
• Ronni Williams – father, Rodney Williams, played basketball at Florida
during the 1981-83 seasons before transferring to Stetson.
Also in the Family: Gator whose relatives played a varsity
COLLEGIATE sport
• Antoinette Bannister – older brother, TJ, played basketball at the
University of Virginia and now professionally overseas; father, Tony
Bannister, played football at now-defunct Westmar College in Iowa.
• Kayla Lewis – cousin, Kendrum Malcome, began his college football
career at Georgia, before transferring to SIU in January 2013 and is
a junior running back on the 2014 Salukis’ squad.
• Cassie Peoples – mother, Jessica, coached and played softball at St.
Mary’s University in San Antonio; father, Marcus, played basketball
at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor.
• Ronni Williams – father, Rodney Williams, played basketball at Florida
during the 1981-83 seasons before transferring to Stetson; uncle,
Marlon McCree, played football at Kentucky before enjoying an
eight-year NFL career; cousin Erik McCree plays basketball at Louisiana Tech and will be a junior for the 2014-15 season.
Special Blessing
• Brooke Copeland was Baptized in the Jordan River.
First-Timers
• Four members of the 2014-15 women’s basketball roster are the first
ever in program history from a specific state or country: Haley
Lorenzen is the first Gator from the state of Iowa, Carlie Needles
is the initial Gator hoopster from the state of Colorado, Viktorija
Dimaite is the first-ever from Lithuania and Pamela Begič is the
first from Slovenia.
