Snow White & The
Seven Dwarfs
Until 10/01/15
See web for times
The story of Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs is one of
the most popular of all time,
and has all the ingredients
of a classic tale: a Beautiful
Princess, a Handsome Prince,
a Good Fairy and a Wicked
Queen, and of course there’s
Muddles and a Dame, a
magic mirror and seven of the
craziest little people you’ve
ever seen. We’re delighted to
announce that legendary Welsh
actress and singer, Ruth Madoc,
perhaps best known for her
role as Gladys Pugh in Hi de Hi,
stars as the Wicked Queen, and
Channel 5′s Milkshake presenter,
Jen Pringle, plays Snow White.
Back by popular demand is
Denbigh born actor, Sean Jones,
as Muddles and James Lusted,
Olympic Torchbearer and subject
of his own documentary on S4C,
Byd Mawr y Dyn Bach (The Small
Man’s Big World) plays Sneezer.
No Panto would be complete
without a fabulous Pantomime
Dame, played this year by Jamie
Steen. Snow White comes with a
full supporting cast and includes
two talented local dance schools
- Gay Harris Dancers and North
Wales School of Dance. A show
bursting with great songs, dance
routines and plenty of laughter,
it’s a tremendous treat for all the
family that you won’t want to
miss..

The Norman
Beaker Blues Trio
06/02/15
8pm
Three legendary Blues artistes
play the music of B.B. King,
Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy and
other dignitaries of the genre,
as well as their own brand of
originals. The trio are among
the final links to the history
of the Blues, having played
and recorded with the most
influential Blues artists on both
sides of the Atlantic.
They have many stories of
these greats and have taken on
their influences.
Norman Beaker (Guitar, vocals,
harmonica) has been at the
forefront of the British Blues
scene since the late 60’s, playing
with USA and UK greats such as
Alexis Korner, Graham Bond, the
late Jack Bruce, Tony Ashton,
Paul Jones, Eric Burdon and
many others. John Price (bass,
vocals) is one of the busiest
bassists in the field, having
played and recorded with Van
Morrison, Chris Farlowe, Eric
Burdon, Tony Ashton, Tony
McPhee, Herbie Goins and Mick
Abrahams. John has been in the
band for over twenty years. Steve
Gibson (Drums, Percussion) has
worked with the Buzzcocks and
has become one of the most
sought-after percussionists,
working with Chris Farlowe,
Larry Garner, Herbie Goins, Irma
Thomas and Jack Bruce.

Songbird:
The Music of
Eva Cassidy
08/02/15
7.30pm
Songbird: The Music Of Eva
Cassidy is a fantastic concert
performance which also tells
the story of one the greatest
singers of the 1980s and 1990s.
The music of Eva Cassidy
only came to prominence in
this country following her
untimely early death but since
Terry Wogan first played her
recordings in 2000 she has
had three No 1 UK hits and a
total of eleven UK chart hits,
including five top three albums.
Songbird stars Sarah-Jane
Buckley who has already made
her name as one of the world’s
leading Eva Cassidy interpreters
and of whom the press said
“her voice is almost an exact
copy of the original, Sarah plays
Eva to perfection”. Supported
by a brilliant on-stage live band
and fantastic video footage
Sarah-Jane Buckley presents
a show which has already
been hailed as “a tour de force
performance that is nothing short
of phenomenal”. Book early to
avoid disappointment.

25/02/15
7.30pm
This talented artist began his
career over three decades
ago with appearances on
Junior Showtime, followed
by a grounding on the tough
Northern club circuit. His big
break came in 1981 when
he was a finalist on London
Weekend Television’s Search
for a Star – this lead to
appearances at the London
Palladium with Bob Hope and
The Talk of the Town.
A short time later, Joe received
the Variety Club of Britain award
as Most Promising Artiste of
the Year. Television specials in
the UK and USA followed. Joe’s
repertoire of voices is endless
and includes hundreds of the
world’s top singers, however, he
is perhaps best known for his
impersonation of Shirley Bassey
who has commented, “Joe
can do me better than I can do
myself”. During his career, Joe
has received gold and platinum
discs for his albums, enjoyed
sell-out concerts at the Royal
Albert Hall, as well as touring
Australia several times. Now,
Joe is looking forward to new
challenges, new songs to sing
and new audiences to thrill.

As time goes by Mary Duff’s
career seems to go from
strength to strength, and as
the salutation and success
continue to roll in for the
genuinely charismatic and
warm Irish singer, there seems
little sign of the celebrated
triumphs slowing down.
Not only has Mary made a live
television appearance in front of
a massive 60 million American
viewers, resulting in a number
2 on the Billboard World Music
Charts, but success has also
grown in the UK. Her album,
‘The Ultimate Collection’, a ‘best
of’ album featuring 40 of Mary’s’
best loved songs, was not only
her first TV-advertised release,
but was also her first ever British
chart hit, nestling nicely into
the UK Top 50. Not bad for a
small country girl from Ireland,
who’s wonderfully emotive, yet
quietly powerful voice, was all
discovered by accident when
she was only twelve years old!

In October 2007 Ray Gravell, a
man who for many embodied
what it is to be Welsh, passed
away after succumbing to
complications resulting from
contracting diabetes. He was
56 years old.
Known to millions for his
legendary exploits on the
rugby field, ‘Grav’ was and is
so much more than that. An
actor, a cultural icon, a father,
a husband, a man with a life
packed full of stories that
deserve to be heard once more.
The Torch Theatre Company
presents Gareth Bale as ‘Grav’ in
a play written by Owen Thomas
that celebrates the man and
the legend. With the blessing
of Mari, Ray’s widow, and
contributions from his Welsh

What happened to ‘Bobby &
Laura’ and ‘Norman & Sue’…?
‘Their Story Continues…
Inspired By The 7 Smash Hit
Multi-Million Selling Albums Of
Dreamboats And Petticoats.’
It’s 1963, and the world is
changing. Bobby and Laura’s
single “Dreamboats and
Petticoats” has not taken off.
Norman and Sue have settled
down to non-marital bliss – and
a baby! But Ray and Donna
seem blissfully happy… The
advent of the Beatles and
the Merseyside sound is
inspirational. But will it inspire
Bobby and Laura to have one
more shot at stardom – Norman
to “get off the drains” and
find that singing voice he has
longed for, and Ray to realise his
ambition and manage a really
top pop act!? All will be revealed
in a follow up with the same
wit, charm, and great songs as
“Dreamboats and Petticoats”.

Exhibitions
Lost In Art
Throughout January,
February and March
Open daily 10am5.30pm
Lost in Art is a project for
engaging people aged 50+
with dementia, along with their
family members and carers.
Each week, participants
visit the galleries at Ruthin
Craft Centre where they view
and respond to exhibitions;
working alongside artist
Sian Hughes they produce
artwork with the gallery
acting as starting point and
inspiration. The aim of the
project is to explore the role of
the visual arts in addressing
issues which can affect people
with dementia, including
social isolation, confidence,
communication and quality of life
and wellbeing. This season the
group were inspired by Eleanor
Glover’s film ‘Dogshaped’
from ‘Is it Wood’ exhibition
and by Julie Arkell’s exhibition
‘Away’. Children from Ysgol
Frongoch worked alongside
the Lost in Art group to make
a collaborative artwork, over
several sessions. For the first of
these, the 14 pupils from year
5 visited Ruthin Craft Centre,
where they were introduced
to the work of Eleanor Glover
and Julie Arkell followed by
workshop, where the Lost In Art
Group had the opportunity to
share their creative ideas with
the children. Two weeks later,
Lost in Art members visited the
pupils at their school to continue
developing their work ending
with a celebratory pop-up
exhibition in the school which
was attended by other pupils,
Wales’s biggest open studios
event. In September members
of the public are invited to
visit the studios of over 200
artists to peek behind the
scenes and experience this
normally hidden world, and
chat to the artists and crafts
people about their creative
process. This exhibition
presents artwork by a
selection of Helfa Gelf / Art
Trail members.
parents and teachers. This
exhibition is the result of the
gallery inspiration and the school
collaboration.
The Lost in Art project is
managed by Denbighshire
Arts Service and funded by
Denbighshire County Council
and Arts Council Wales.

Automata are a source of
intrigue and delight. They
have been about for millennia;
examples are sighted in Greek
mythology, some intended as
tools, toys, religious idols, or
prototypes for demonstrating
basic scientific principles.
They delight children, and
adults too are fascinated and
engaged by these interactive
objects; we all love to push a
button or turn a handle and
see something happen in front
of our eyes. This exhibition
shows a group of automata
from eleven British makers,
who have developed their own
ways of making things move.
Some, perhaps, take us back
to the slot machines on piers
in our childhood, where a
figure would burst into action
leaving us wide eyed with
amazement!

Walter Keeler
Until 25/01/15
Open daily 10am5.30pm
Function is a central issue in
every pot that Walter Keeler
makes; rising to the challenge
of utilitarian demands he
experiences a timeless
pleasure in useful objects.
Making playful reference to
the eccentric inventiveness of
the emerging pottery industry
in 18th century Staffordshire,
thorns and branches
which seem daunting, even
threatening, are turned to
practical ends as thumb holds
on handles. This is not just a
teapot, it is an artefact with
rich meaning.

Artist in Residence:
Alana Tyson
Until 28/01/15
Open daily 10am5.30pm
Alana Tyson’s work attempts
to make sense of the world
she inhabits. Dismayed by
such platitudes as “that is
how it has always been,” her
questioning takes the form
of performance, sculpture
and installation. Repetition
and mark making are key
aesthetic elements in her
work.
The build up of a simple mark,
movement or idea can create
a complex work that calls
for reassessment. Alana’s
questioning does not provide
answers but she is striving to
elicit reactions in the viewer,
maybe to comfort but also
to evoke laughter or even
unnerve. Alana will be creating
an installation that is a part of
her series Interiors and based
on the hypocrisy of the phrase
“it’s what’s on the inside that
counts.” During Alana Tyson’s
residency at Ruthin Craft
Centre she will be working with
different community groups
inspired by her new body of
work. Alana will be in residence
in the project spaces on certain
days between the 10 November
2014 and 28 February 2015.

Delight In
The Everyday
Until 31/01/15
10am-5.30pm
The Design Commission for
Wales is pleased to collaborate
with Ruthin Craft Centre on an
exhibition which recognises
quality in the everyday in
Wales – the homes, public
places, schools, work places,
parks, shops and community
buildings which we enjoy, and
which form the background
to everyday life. Delight in
the Everyday celebrates the
simple pleasures found in the
unassuming buildings and places
which eschew louder ambition
and are entirely appropriate
and delightful in their simplicity.
The Commission has selected
several designers working in
the built environment in Wales
to contribute exhibits which
explore the theme of Delight in
the Everyday. From the simple
planting of wildflowers to
brighten up a dull roadside, to a
study of the search for thermal
comfort in a courtyard house, the
designers consider some of the
infinite variety of ways in which
good design contributes to our
enjoyment of day to day life.

Lisa Eurgain Taylor is inspired
by the natural environment, and
the mountains of Snowdonia
in particular. She draws on

an otherworldly light and
atmosphere.She mainly paints in
oils but sometimes incorporates
lino-prints. Denbighshire County
Council Arts Service is pleased to
present her work in our galleries
for the first time.
Lisa Eurgain Taylor was raised
