Three-Phase Electrical
Energy Logger
Technical Data
Energy logging is now within your reach—
discover where you’re wasting energy, optimize
your facility’s energy use and reduce your bill.
The new Fluke 1730 Three-Phase Electrical Energy logger
introduces a new simplicity to discovering sources of
electrical energy waste. Discover when and where
energy in your facility is being consumed; from the
service entrance to individual circuits. Profiling energy
usage across your facility helps you identify opportunities
for energy savings, and provides you with the data you
need to act on them. The new Energy Analyze software
package allows you to compare multiple data points over
time to build a complete picture of energy usage, which
is the first step to reduce the cost of your energy bill.
• Key measurements: voltage, current, power,
power factor and associated values enable
energy saving strategies to be implemented.
• Bright, color touch screen: perform convenient in-the-field analysis and data checks
with full graphical display.
• Comprehensive logging: all measured values
are automatically logged and can be reviewed
during logging and before downloading for onthe-go analysis. More than 20 separate logging
sessions can be stored on the instrument.
• Optimized user interface: quick, guided,
graphical setup ensures you’re capturing the
right data every time, and the intelligent verification function indicates correct connections
have been made, reducing user uncertainty.
• Complete ‘in-the-field’ setup through the
front panel: no need to return to the workshop
for download and setup or to take a computer
to the electrical panel.
• Wide range power: power instrument directly
from the measured circuit eliminating the
need to find a power outlet while allowing the
instrument to be secured safely inside electrical panels.
• Two USB ports: one for PC connection and
another for fast, simple download to standard
USB thumb drives, or other USB devices.
• Compact size: designed to fit in tight spaces
and panels.
• Highest safety rating in the industry: 600 V
CAT IV/1000 V CAT III rated for use at the service entrance and downstream.
• Optimized measurement accessories: flat
voltage cable and thin flexible current probes
ensure easy installation even in tight spaces.
• Battery life: four-hour operating time (backup
time) per charge on lithium-ion battery.
• Security: safeguard against theft with a
Kensington lock.
• All new, Energy Analyze application software: download, analyze and automated
reporting for a complete picture of energy
saving potential.
Applications
Power and energy logging
When a piece of equipment is operated it instantaneously consumes a specific amount of power in
watts (W) or kilowatts (kW). This power is accuDiscover how much energy individual pieces of
mulated over the operating time and expressed as
equipment are consuming when they are operatenergy consumed in kilowatt hours (kWh). Energy

be a standard charge from the utility per kilowatt
loads (various standards exist for this process;
hour. Utilities may have other additional charges,
in the US the NEC 220-87 is the recommended
standard). Load studies can also identify situations such as peak demand, which is the maximum
power demand over a defined period of time,
where you may be exceeding the allowable load
often 15 or 30 minutes. There may also be power

Energy surveys
Users often ask where measurements should be

will allow a full picture of energy usage across
the facility to be developed. The next question users typically have is how long an energy
survey should last. This of course depends on the
facility, but it is recommended that you measure
for a period that matches a typical facility activity period. If the facility operates over a five day
work week with down time on the weekend, a
seven day survey will most likely capture typical
conditions. If the facility operates at a constant
level for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a single
day could be reasonably representative as long as
you avoid a period where there may be planned
maintenance.
To capture a full picture of the facilities energy
usage it is not necessarily required to have
measurements made simultaneously at every
consumption point in the facility. To get a comprehensive picture, spot measurements can be made
and then compared on a sliding time timescale.
For example, you could compare the service
entrance results from a typical Tuesday between
6:00 am and 12:00 pm with those of a larger load
in the facility. Typically there will be some correlation between these profiles.

Product properties
Automatic sensor protection at high gas concentrations
Thanks to the automatic measuring range extension, the measuring
range of your CO, COlow, NO, NOlow or SO2 sensor is extended 5-fold. The
sensor is placed under no greater strain at high gas concentrations than
at low concentrations. The automatic sensor protection protects the
sensor from overload without terminating the measurement.
Optionally, the measuring range of all sensors in the instrument can be
simultaneously extended by a factor of 2.
Measurement up to e.g.
max. 50,000 ppm (CO), or
max. 20,000 ppm (NO), or
max. 25,000 ppm (SO2), without overloading the sensor.
Space for 4 gas sensors
testo 340 is fitted with an O2 sensor as
standard. Three additional toxic gas sensors
such as CO, COlow, NO, NOlow, NO2 oder SO2
can be selected by the user. This guarantees
highest flexibility when adapting to changing
applications and measurement jobs.
Simply select, change and add the gas sensors
required at any time! For this purpose, select
from these seven pre-calibrated gas sensors:
1) NO2 sensor
The sensor can be changed or upgraded in an
additional gas parameter by the user directly
on-site without time-consuming test gas
adjustment.
2) SO2 sensor
3) COlow sensor
4) NOlow sensor
5) NO sensor
6) CO sensor
7) O2 sensor (standard)

Large selection of flue gas
sampling probes
Different probe shaft lengths,
diameters and temperature ranges
ensure high flexibility for all
applications. To change, the
probe shaft is simply attached to
the probe handle and engages.
Special flue gas probes for
industrial engines are designed
for positive pressure at the
measurement site, making
measurements possible even in
the toughest conditions. In
addition, modular industrial
probes are available for rugged
process conditions.
Wireless transmission*
* Country permits BLUETOOTH®
wireless transmission, see
Technical Data on page 8.
Ready to operate immediately
The highly robust fast-action
probe coupling for all gas paths
eliminates any confusion. The
indestructible gas sampling hose
cannot be bent, can be extended
up to 7.8 m and saves space. The
probe can remain positioned in
the flue gas during the zeroing
phase of the gas sensors. The
calibration phase of testo 340 is
finished after only 30 seconds.
Wireless readout, transmission and printing
of readings
Wireless connection via Bluetooth® 2.0 to Testo
BLUETOOTH® printers and direct communication
to notebook/PC over a distance of up to 10 m (free
field) are features of the new testo 340 option.
Readings and configurations are transmitted
wirelessly to your notebook/PC for storage and
analysis. Print data is transmitted wirelessly to the
printer by infrared interface (visual contact
required) or by new BLUETOOTH® wireless
transmission. This saves time since the analyzer is
ready for use again immediately following data
transmission.
Measurement gas pump
The automatically controlled measurement gas pump built into
testo 340 is the ideal solution for typical situations which arise
when measuring flue gas such as negative or positive pressure
(from -200 to +50 mbar). Pump flow is automatically kept
constant.
Integrated condensate trap
The Testo design eliminates the possibility of condensation
accumulating in the actual gas sensor. The testo 340 warns if the
condensation trap needs to be emptied.
Large selection of probes
18 standard fuels and 10 additional user-defined fuels can be adapted
specifically to each application.

Features
Specifications
OGF5400_PENTA is an intelligent solution for
accurate consumption measurement for compressed
air and gases. An affordable flow meter
OGF5400_PENTA is work according to the approved
calorimetric measuring principle.
In this process a heated sensor is cooled down by
the gas circulating around it. The flow-dependent
cooling-down is used as a measuring effect while
the degree of cooling-down is directly depending on
the passing air resp. gas mass. Therefore, an
additional pressure and temperature compensation
is not necessary.

Due to its compact design it is possible to monitor
all compressed air systems from the compressor to
the smallest compressed air line (25mm to 50mm)
with the new affordable flow meter OGF5400-50.
New flow meters OGF5400_PENTA are available or
larger pipe diameters from DN 50 to DN 400. Apart
from compressed air also other gases like e. g.
nitrogen, oxygen and CO2 can be measured.
The built-in gas conversion coefficient list can be
used to correct when the flow meters used to
measure the non-air gases. The mounting for the
meters with the DN15-DN50 is pipe type, and it is
insertion type for the upstream pipe when the DN is
above 50mm.
The correction feature allows OGF5400_PENTA
accuracy to installer no effect when suppress the
range, this can help customers to reduce the stock
amount and change the range in field.

A
There is no restriction for mounting
position (A – D) in regards to meter
accuracy. However, special care is
recommended for the following flow
mediums:
E
If a pressure measuring point is
installed after the device, ensure
that there is a large enough
distance between the device and
the measuring point so that there
are no negative effects on vortex
formation in the sensor.

Pipeline Insulation
The pipe stand serves
as a radiator and
protects the electronics
from overheating.
Therefore, ensure that
sufficient surface area
remains exposed.
Be sure not to insulate
passed the level marked
“max.” on the pipe stand.

E
Ensuring Steam Quality
Wet steam has a higher density than saturated steam.
Since the flowmeter mass flow calculations are based on
saturated steam density, the actual mass flow of wet
steam will be higher than shown by the flowmeter. The
upstream installation of a separator (DC3S) is suggested
to ensure steam quality and flowmeter accuracy.
The proper separation and drainage of condensate is a
recommended practice for all steam applications.
