Official Publication for Members of the Golden Hills Mustang Club Established 1982 VOLUME XXXII, 12 DECEMBER 2014 This was my eleventh parade with the club and the first time that I did not ride in a Mustang. Tina Chapman, my Home Health Aide from the VA, rode with me in Dan’s 1939 Mercury Sedan behind the club’s Mustangs. It was a very nice parade, and many thanks to all the club members for this privilege. - Dan McCabe, Sr. Park n’Ride Chairman CLUB PURPOSE The Golden Hills Mustang Club, established in 1982, is a nonprofit organization, the purpose of which is to promote the admiration, ownership, care and maintenance of the Ford Mustang Automobile regardless of model year. It has been an incredible experience and one I will never forget. As my presidency comes to an end, it is time to thank each and every one of the Golden Hills Mustang Club members for their continued support and friendship. It is because of my passion for the Mustang that I joined the club but it is because of the friendships and acquaintances that I have made in the club that I continue my membership. I wish for the club to continue to grow and prosper. I know it will with the help and support of each of you. There are many people to thank for their support, first I would like to thank those members that are always at our events willing to help. Without members’ support, these events would not take place as we all know. Everyone’s contributions make our club successful and the events fun. I took some time today to reflect upon the achievements of our club over the past year. The Golden Hills Mustang Club is the premier club in this area. The Golden Hills Mustang Club is “The Friendliest Little Club” but we are also a “Family of Friends”. This is your club and you have all made an effort to make our club the best club it can be, all because of the efforts of the club‘s members. We are known for our community support and service work and doing for others without expecting anything in return. I want to thank you all for your support and help throughout the year. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU. Remember there is no general meeting in December. Instead we have the annual Golden Hills Mustang Club Christmas dinner in December. The Golden Hills Mustang Club Christmas dinner this year will be at the Elks Club in Napa on December 20th. This is a time to get dressed up, dine on fine food, and join in the exciting gift exchange in addition to having great fun with other members of your club. 2014 has been a good year. Our calendar included a good variety of events. We experienced several once in a lifetime adventures including the 50th Mustang Birthday Celebration in Las Vegas and the Alaskan Cruise. We had a lot of fun and of course ate a lot of good food! As we move forward into the New Year, we have many things to look forward to including our 31 st Annual Biggest Little Car Show on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Many other activities will also be on the 2015 calendar, so be sure to check it as well as watch your e-mail for blasts for upcoming events throughout the year. Let’s make this another banner year for the Golden Hills Mustang Club with great participation and at the same time having a lot of fun! It is also important to remember that this time of the year is especially demanding for the local food banks, so please step forward and donate non-perishable food to help them through the holidays. The Golden Hills Mustang Club also continues to send to our overseas troops via our Pony Express program. I also want to take this time to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all get to spend time with family and friends during the holidays. -President, Kirk Stafford 3 Sunshine Corner We sent some “Get Well Soon” wishes to Yvonne Westburg. She is recuperating from a recent surgical procedure. Our heartfelt sympathy went out to 2 members who recently lost close family members. A notice was sent to the local paper but it was never printed, plus the weather was not looking good to bring out classic Mustangs and Hot Rods. In fact, when Norma and I arrived at the Napa Fosters Freeze the rain was falling but thanks to Mike & Tammy, Paige and Robin Paulsell plus NVC member Harvey Price we got set up quickly and started filling the tables with toys. My worries were not founded as people came by all day long to drop off toys for the good little Girls and Boys. CHP Officer Robin Lescher was there to help and was very pleased with the quality and quantity of toys. We did have fun with Thomas Williamson, club member from Germany. He was handcuffed and placed in the CHP cruiser. We know he will have to explain this when he gets home! At the end, we filled Napa Valley Cruiser's Brad Parson's big truck to overflowing and delivered them to the Napa CHP office. CHiPs for Kids, Norma and I want to thank May for hosting this event again at Napa's Fosters Freeze. We also owe gratitude to the community and club members from Golden Hills Mustang Club and the Napa Valley Cruisers for coming out to support our local kids in need. Merry Christmas!, -Dan & Norma 5 The morning of Saturday, November 1st found several GHMC Members at the Tractor Supply store in Dixon. GHMC was invited to test drive the new 2015 Aluminum body Ford F-150 truck. As many of you might remember this was not the first time our club has received an invitation to be among the first to drive Ford’s newest vehicles and give them our opinion. We drove the first eco-boost F-150 and several of our members now own them. All we had to do was go online and sign up for this free experience. We gave them our name and email address so that they could contact us after the drive to get our feedback. They also gave us a Ford F-150 keychain, a Tractor Supply hat, and a $10 gift card just for participating. Club members who took advantage of this opportunity were Bill & Cat Banovitz, Nick Banovitz,(with Shelby & Jack), Kirk Stafford, Danny & Cristy Cordeiro, Terry & Ileine Burke, and Dan & Norma McCabe. They had their choice of four Super Crew 4X4 trucks powered by the new 2.7 Eco-Boost V-6, as well as the 3.5 Eco Boost V6. Each driver was taken on the back roads of Dixon and back down the city streets so we could get the true feel of everyday driving situations. Everyone who drove the trucks was very impressed by their power and the way they handled. They were all outfitted with all the latest “Technology & Stuff” (All the Bells & Whistles) and all agreed that Ford has come a long way since the Model T! If you get a change be sure and Drive One! After we all had our test drives and some of us spent our gift cards plus a little more in Tractor Supply; we topped off the event with a relaxing lunch at Mary’s Pizza Shack in Dixon. Thanks to all who joined us! -Dan & Norma McCabe 6 This month’s Car of Month is a 2009 Saleen Racecraft owned by Cliff Warrick. While Saleen is most known for their S-281 performance Mustangs, in 2008 and 2009 they built 87 Racecraft Mustangs. The Racecraft contains all the performance and handling upgrades Saleen is known for while retaining the general outward appearance of a stock Mustang GT. The Racecraft logos and 420S badge on the front fenders are the only outward sign that there’s something special under the hood. Cliff’s Torch Red Racecraft is one of 11 that came in that color. Performance upgrades include the Saleen Series VI Supercharger, 39 pound fuel injectors, performance tuning chip and nitrogen suspension system. Interior changes included Racecraft Logo seats and the Racecraft Instrument cluster. Cliff, the first owner of the Racecraft, purchased the vehicle from Napa Ford. He took first place in his category at the 2010 SMS Supercars Concours d’Extravagance car show held at the Saleen facility in Corona California. Many of the attendees at the show had heard of the Racecraft, but had never actually seen one until the show. Steve Saleen autographed the dash of Cliff’s Racecraft during the show. If you sign up to attend a GMHC event and cannot attend, please notify the event chairperson ASAP. UPCOMING EVENTS Dec. 4 Board Meeting @ the Loya residence7:00 p.m Dec. 13 Wreaths Across America meet @ Black Oak Restaurant for breakfast 7am……….Bill Davis Dec. 13 Benicia Christmas Parade…………………………………………………………………………………………..Robin Paulsell Dec. 20 Christmas Party at Napa Elks Lodge Dec. 24 There is no General Meeting in December. We’ll see everyone in January! 7 It was a beautiful crisp morning, as the gang all gathered at Cattlemen’s parking lot for our Fifth Annual trip to Apple Hill. Joining us this year were Danny and Cristy Cordeiro, Dan and Norma McCabe, Kirk Stafford, Louie Moore, Marilyn Budde, Ilene Burke, Sue Calvert, Bill Watkins, Cliff Warrick and Diana, Thomas Williamson (from Germany). We stopped in Diamond Springs to meet up with a few more club members, Craig Beckley, Harold Joines, Paul Carlson and Patti Bowers. Craig led us to our first destination “High Hill Orchards”. We all scattered to check out their large craft fair and to enjoy all of the baked apple goodies and apple beer (Craig). We decided we should try new orchards this year. We stopped at “Rainbow Orchards”. They were a small orchard, but had a lot of different varieties of apples and pumpkins. Our next stop was going to be “Larson Apple Barn”, but surprisingly they were closed on Saturdays. So, since we still had time to visit another orchard, we stopped at “Mill View Ranch” and checked out their craft fair and bake shop. The last stop was “Boa Vista Orchards”. It is our favorite place. They have a big variety of produce along with all kinds of baked goods, including frozen pies to take home. They too have a small craft fair. By the time we were all done with our shopping, we had built up an appetite and headed down the hill to the Buttercup Pantry for a late lunch/early dinner. The good food and service put the frosting on top of an excellent adventure (yes Norma….. with cherry toppings). We had a good crowd of people to share the day’s adventure with. Thank you to all of you who made this trip with us. Hope to see you all again next year. -Bob and Kathy Loya 8 y a d h t r Bi y p p a H Let us know if we forgot anyone! Dec.
