Visiting the Giant Panda Habitat
The giant pandas live here. Giant pandas are black and white bears.
I may see many people visiting the giant pandas.
There is a pathway that I can follow to help me find the pandas.
I may see the pandas from different viewing areas.
The pandas have indoor enclosures. The indoor enclosures
may be empty, so I may see the pandas in their outdoor yards.
Mei Xiang and
Bao Bao are
enjoying their
yard. I may see
the pandas
walking around.
I may see the pandas climbing trees.
I may see the pandas in the trees. Sometimes, I may have to find
them in the trees.
I may see a spotting scope along the pathway. I may look through it
to see the pandas.
I may see the pandas eating.
Giant pandas love to eat bamboo. Keepers give them bamboo
every day.
I may see them sleeping.
I may see signs that tell me about the zoo’s giant pandas.
I may see
buttons in the
panda house
that I may
press to hear
sounds that
pandas make.
I may see a baby panda model
that I may touch. It is very
small. I may see a large
panda sculpture that I may
touch.
I may see signs that tell me where to look for the pandas. I
may see signs that tell me not to disturb an area. I may see
signs that help to keep me safe.
I may see a researcher looking at the giant pandas on screens.
The researcher wants to know what the pandas are doing.
There are interesting sights to see inside of the panda building. I
may see a large shipping crate that was used to carry a panda from
China. I may be able to look through a microscope to see
something up close.
I may see a crate that the pandas played with. The keepers put
treats in the crate for the pandas to enjoy. I may see a sample
of an ice-block with apple slices. The keepers give the pandas
frozen treats like this to eat.
I may see interactive
displays that I can
touch to learn about
giant pandas.
I may see a display with
dials that I can turn to
learn facts about pandas. I
may see touch screens that
I can explore too. There is
so much to see and learn.
I may see tools that
are used when
researchers study
giant pandas in the
wild. I may see a scale
to weigh baby pandas.
I may see a tool that
helps a scientist find
or track a panda in
the wild.
I may see a keeper
or volunteer use a
microphone to talk
about the pandas.
The sound may be
loud. I may ask the
keeper questions
about the pandas.
There are
places to sit
down and
take a break. I
will rest if I
want to.
The giant
pandas live
along Asia
Trail at the
Smithsonian’s
National Zoo.
I may be able
to see other
exciting
animals along
this trail
during my
visit.
