Electronic Thermal Throttle®
All Bullard Thermal Imagers can be equipped with the patented Electronic Thermal Throttle. Electronic
Thermal Throttle is a unique feature, specifically designed for non-fire attack operations when firefighters need to pinpoint a heat source in a scene. With Electronic Thermal Throttle, the hottest objects
in a scene are colored in gradated shades of blue, isolating the areas of potential concern. Electronic
Thermal Throttle is manually adjustable to provide additional context.
When engaged, Electronic Thermal Throttle locks onto the hottest object, enabling a firefighter to
quickly compare the isolated heat source while panning around the scene. Examples of uses are:
• Investigating “smells and bells” calls
• Isolating overheated light ballasts
• Identifying warm circuit breakers
• Thoroughly examining a room during overhaul
At a fire scene, Electronic Thermal Throttle makes size-up operations more efficient by enabling quick
identification of the area of involvement while facilitating more effective overhaul by highlighting the
hottest portions of a scene. This is particularly important because, with typical thermal imagers, many
objects in an overhaul scene will appear light grey or white, making distinction difficult. Electronic
Thermal Throttle shows the hottest of these objects in blue, saving time and helping to avoid potential
rekindles.
?
Did You Know?
According to the United States Fire Administration, only eight percent of fire department runs in the United States are for fire.
For the over 90 percent of calls where no fire is involved, Electronic Thermal Throttle is useful to identify a source of an alarm
or uncover a fire before it happens.
Super Red Hot
Bullard’s Super Red Hot colorization approach is more philosophy than scheme. With Super Red Hot,
objects in a scene that reach 500°F are colorized yellow, hotter objects of about 750°F are colorized
orange, and objects greater than 1000°F are colorized red.
This sensible color progression alerts of the abnormal in a fire scene and helps isolate areas of intense
heat from slightly cooler areas, enabling precision in directing hose streams. With Super Red Hot, the
color disappears only when it has been cooled to a much lower temperature. Unlike most other firefighting thermal imagers, Super Red Hot doesn’t change indiscriminately. It works the same way, every
time. This keeps firefighters focused on their tasks; not on their thermal imagers.
?
Did You Know?
Some thermal imagers have temperature ranges that extend over 2000°F but come at the cost of reduced sensitivity. Bullard’s
thermal imagers colorize all objects over 1000°F as red and preserve sensitivity, so firefighters can still see furniture, egress
points, and potential victims.

Keep Your Batteries at Peak Performance
Using PowerUp in conjunction with a regular inspection and maintenance
process, a fire department can restore or replace non-performing batteries in
inventory before they impact operations. The multi-functional PowerUp keeps
thermal imager batteries in peak condition.

powerful features.
Bullard Tough
More than a moniker, Bullard Tough is an enduring legacy. With tens of
thousands of firefighting thermal imagers in active service, Bullard stands
behind our commitment of engineering the toughest, most reliable thermal
imagers in the world. That’s why at a field evaluation, trade show event,
or personal sales call, you’ll see our team demonstrate this toughness by
throwing, heating, and immersing our thermal imagers.
After all, a thermal imager is only as good as its ability to work reliably in the
field. That’s what Bullard Tough is all about.
Engineered
Designed for Firefighting
It’s simple, really. Study how firefighters move and operate in the
environments in which they work, and design products that facilitate this.
This is a commitment we’ve honored since we built our first thermal imager
in 1998. It’s not just about size and weight; it’s also about how a firefighter
interacts with our products. It’s about viewing angles. It’s about the ease of
accessing features. It’s about how the unit is stowed on the gear and how it
can be quickly and conveniently deployed.
Our goal is to make products that make it easier for you to do your job.
Powerful Simplicity
As a pioneer of thermal imagers for fire service applications, Bullard
understands that the value of a thermal imager is its ability to aid firefighters
in doing their jobs. Thermal Imagers should be tools, not complicated
instruments that distract from the task at hand.
Features for Bullard Thermal Imagers are accessible and intuitive, assisting
you with a better understanding of how a fire scene is progressing or where
a hidden hot spot is located. You’ve got plenty to think about at a fire scene.
Figuring out what all the buttons on your thermal imager do shouldn’t be part
of that.
