Wipers: inspect the windshield wipers and wiper fluid to ensure better visibility. Battery: make sure the battery is fully charged. WINTER SHOVELING SAFETY: 1200 people die each year as a result of shoveling snow. To ensure winter time shoveling safety follow the tips below: The Audit Committee is currently seeking applications from Property Owners in “Good Standing” interested in serving on the committee. If you are interested, please submit your name, phone number and reason for submission to the POC Office. Financial background is required by anyone applying. PIKE COUNTY AREA AGENCY ON AGING INFO: Pike County Area Agency on Aging and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program are seeking volunteers to support the free tax preparation service provided for low to moderate income taxpayers, especially those aged 60 & over. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide thrives due to the remarkable efforts of its volunteer base. With nearly 50 million low-tomoderate-income taxpayers helped and growing, there are always opportunities for new volunteers. Lack of experience shouldn’t stop anyone from volunteering. Tax volunteers must complete a tax preparation workshop from the Internal Revenue Service prior to working with taxpayers. For more information, visit www.aarp.org/taxaide or call 1-888-OURAARP (1-888-687-2277). AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is offered in conjunction with the IRS. 6 Warm up 5 or 10 minutes to get heart rate up slowly. Dress appropriately in layers to adjust to the temperature outside. If you become overheated, take a break. Pick the right waterproof boots. They will protect the feet from the cold as well as keep them dry. Pick up a small shovel. Depending on how wet the snow is, a shovel full of snow can weigh up to 15 pounds! Stay hydrated. Have a water bottle handy just inside the garage and take a few sips after every 15 minutes of shoveling snow. Set a time limit. Lift with the legs, not the back. Push the snow. Pushing is easier than lifting. Never shovel alone. Let a family member or neighbor know you are shoveling so they can check on you from time to time.
