Make a Difference One
Step at a Time at the
6th annual SouthGroup
Insurance 5K Run/Walk set
for Saturday, February 15th
at The Woodlands Office
Park in Ridgeland. Race
registration opens at 7:30
a.m. and the race star ts at
8:30 a.m. A one-mile Kids
Fun Run is set for 9:30 a.m.
If you’d prefer to sleep in,
you can sign up as a Spirit
Runner to receive the race T-Shir t without the workout.
Awards will be given to
all top finishers and each
child who completes the
Fun Run will receive a
medal. Each par ticipant will
receive a goody bag with
the race T-Shir t and will be
entered into a drawing for
door prizes, including two
children’s bicycles. Groups
are encouraged to run
in honor of a current or
previous patient at Batson Children’s Hospital and will be
acknowledged during awards.
Drinks and snacks will be available along the course that travels west
on County Line road before winding around Northpark Mall and back
to The Woodlands Office Park in Ridgeland. The Kids Fun Run circles
the office park. Refreshments also are available at the finish line.
SouthGroup employees have presented Friends with more
than $115,000 in proceeds from previous 5K events.
Their gift helps suppor t the Child Life program at Batson
which provides patients a place to play and relax while
hospitalized as well as educates them about their illness or
treatment.
Friends of Children’s Hospital would like to thank the SouthGroup
employees who donate their time to put together the 5K as
well as each sponsor and participant who make this event
possible. SouthGroup is hoping for their biggest crowd yet in
2014. Hospital supporters and die-hard runners have braved rain,
frigid cold and wind to come out and run for the patients and
SouthGroup is hopeful this year will be no exception.

The 2nd annual Color Me Rad 5K is set to color the streets of Fondren
on March 22nd, as part of Fondren’s Zippity Doo Dah® Weekend. Last
year’s race sold out so register today at www.ColorMeRad.com and when
you do, enter the promo code FONDREN for Friends of Children’s Hospital
to receive 20% of your registration fee. Grab your friends and prepare
to be bombed with color during one of the raddest 5K’s around, all while
supporting Batson Children’s Hospital. If you have already registered for the

with your name and address and we will submit your name to still receive the
20% donation from Color Me Rad.

Representatives with Sanderson Farms, Inc. and Century Club Charities presented the
proceeds from the 2013 Sanderson Farms Championship to Friends of Children’s Hospital
and University of Mississippi Medical Center Representatives on Thursday, December
19th in the children’s hospital lobby. The 2013 tournament raised a record $300,000.
On top of that donation, two anonymous donors stepped forward, each with a gift of
$100,000, making the grand total donated to $500,000. Friends is deeply grateful to
those involved in making the PGA Tournament a success for our state and our state’s only
children’s hospital. Funds raised from The Sanderson Farms Championship are earmarked
for the new Children’s Heart Center at Batson Children’s Hospital. The 2014 Sanderson
Farms Championship is set for November 3-9 at Annandale Golf Club in Madison. Please

the fourth annual Zippity Doo Dah® Weekend
March 21 and 22, honoring
Vietnam Veterans and raising money for
Friends of Children’s Hospital.
Activities begin with Dancing in the Streets
with The Bouffants on Duling Avenue
on Friday night and conclude on Saturday
with a “Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans”
nighttime, patriotic parade throughout
Fondren’s historic business district. The
parade will feature the world-famous Sweet
PotatoQueens®, lead by Jill Conner Browne.
