“Patience and perseverancehave a magical effect
before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”
John Quincy
Adams
Here we go – into a brand new year, and I am once again selecting to choose
“One Word” for inspiration and focus instead of creating a list of resolutions that
become a challenge to sustain. I began with progress to concentrate on continual
improvement, and linked together to develop and strengthen our Serenata
mission and club culture. And with the progress we have completed together,
I am going into 2015 with an emphasis on perseverance
. I want to continue
targeting my energies towards building our membership and improving the
member experience – all while embracing any challenges as we move ahead.
As I looked at perseverance
, I was concerned it could be interpreted as a
negative direction with thoughts of difficulty, drudgery and problems. But it is
really the tenacity, loyalty, hope and forward movement that I envisioned with
my “One Word” for this year. We have a beautiful club with an extensive array of
facilities, services and amenities for all ages to enjoy, a loyal group of club
members, and a staff dedicated to exceeding member expectations. And each
day we must be ready to improve, try new things and implement change.
Okay, there it is . . . a word that incites fear and uprising, and I said it – change.
To stay on a progressive path of improvement, change is a necessary component.
We systematically assess what we do and how we do it, and work to develop a
balanced new direction that maintains the value of your club membership. One
club update is the food & beverage service gratuity. In January, your club dining
services will include a 20% gratuity, and our banquet events will be 22%. This
amount has never increased in the almost fourteen years of operation, and we
felt this matches the current day standards. By law, all the funds collected as
gratuity are distributed to our hourly server staff, and this is an acknowledgement
of the quality service they provide.
We recognize there will be challenges, and plan to address them without being
discouraged or giving up. With perseverance
, we will accept the struggles,
learn from the setbacks and keep moving towards our goals. At the same time,
we have so much to be excited about and grateful for as we embark on a new year,
so we know our perseverancewill guide us towards continued health and prosperity as a club. In wishing everyone a very Happy New Year, I also encourage
